Chapter 397: Chapter 357 Covenant

"To achieve Supreme Divine Power, one must prove divine right."

Farosa lowered her head, twisting her fingers. What a hassle, to become a true deity ruling over thousands of witches, she had to do something. To this day, she still wasn’t accustomed to this concept of "dedication"; she wished that all witches would voluntarily flock to her command, to worship before her brilliance.

"Although I still don’t know how to proceed, I’ll be able to do it one day," Xu Yang said.

"Yes," Farosa replied absentmindedly, supporting one side of her face with her hand, "I definitely will."

"You just want to enjoy divine power without fulfilling your duties, right?" Mond easily saw through Farosa’s mindset, "That’s no sustainable strategy."

"Having ascended to godhood, I have gained eternal life; time has become my ally, there’s no need to hurry," Farosa declared, "In time, I will accumulate power and wisdom. For now, I simply wish to recuperate and not dwell on these eternal conundrums."

"The decision is yours," Mond said, "Let’s talk about more pressing matters now, alliances, and how to deal with the Fragments of the Throne of God that you possess."

The Throne of God.

Farosa introspected silently, the ancient Throne of God circled deep within her soul, now fragmented, with only eighteen pieces remaining.

She remembered clearly the origin of the Throne of God; once, the Ancient Mystics had acquired the throne, intending to choose its user fairly. But Orcian ascended the throne first, becoming a true deity, and in an instant crushed all his peers, ruling over the course of history.

"How fair, the one with the most fragments has the best chance to forge the Ascension Machine," Farosa scoffed, "but they can only receive it from me, they can’t forcefully take it."

"It’s a natural principle," Mond spoke slowly, deliberately, "...But without strong support, they will stop at nothing, rise en masse and attack, throwing you into a prison for a millennium until your mind collapses and you hand over the fragments. Thus, you must join our faction. You need to think carefully; gods one after the other are awakening from the depths of history. They had no reason to come back to life, until you appeared on earth, bringing the chance to ascend to godhood before them again."

"And you?" Farosa observed.

"I can’t just watch some Ancient Mystic ascend to godhood," Mond said seriously, "...the Throne of God is the only treasure that allows us to ascend, but I believe none of us are worthy, so it’s best that it remains with you or, for your self-protection, you could distribute them among the other gods, throwing them into a cycle of mutual destruction."

"You despise all this, you fear other demigods becoming ’real gods’" Farosa stated, "But you can’t imprison me, for I can return to the Throne of God’s Space at any time, leading the other Ancient Mystics to rise against you with weapons in hand."

As she spoke, her face bore an arrogant expression that made Mond feel oppressed.

"So I will need to handle you, and the fragments, with utmost care." Mond struggled to maintain his composure.

"It’s quite the trouble for your own ideals," Farosa remarked.

"I don’t want to see you killed by something else," Mond stated, "thus I must extend a helping hand as the Moon Dragon King and establish our own faction."

"Yes, you mentioned something, the war of fragments," Farosa mused, "Once I distribute my fragments among them, they’ll destroy each other instead of besieging me. I have already offered a bounty; Yan Duo severely harmed Kyoto Infinity, and Elride inflicted damage on Thousand Lakes Electronics. They’ve made contributions, I will hand over the fragments to them, thus they will attract the animosity on my behalf."

"So, what’s your decision?" Mond pressed.

"I need to think," Farosa turned and left the pavilion, heading toward the vast meadow bathed in moonlight.

The wilderness reflected the twinkling of the stars, like a cradle nourishing silver sprites.

Mond, with sufficient restraint not to be angered by Farosa, still cast a deep glance at Xu Yang after Farosa had gone.

"How do you manage it," he expressed his surprise, "You must have remarkable patience, I get annoyed and angry after only a few words with her, yet you get along well, able to tolerate her impetuosity, selfishness, and presumption."

If this conversation continued, it would only turn into an endless indictment of Farosa. Xu Yang thought internally. Besides, Mond surely harbored grievances since his friend Mack had fallen at Farosa’s hands.

So Xu Yang shook his head, unwilling to discuss further, and simply continued to dine.

The food of the moon was of excellent quality, the steaks enveloped in magical flames, balancing the natural taste of the meat with savory seasonings, creating a pleasant flavor, and the drinks were exquisite, leaving a lasting impression.

This was a banquet of the highest standard, a formal meal for the Moon Dragon Race court, historically tasted by only a select few, and Xu Yang enjoyed it thoroughly.

Farosa aimlessly strolled across the grass outside the pavilion, weighing the pros and cons.

Suddenly, she thought that Mond and Xu Yang must be whispering in the pavilion, talking behind her back, enumerating her flaws one by one, and that was something she couldn’t bear.

So Farosa immediately turned around, only to see that they had no intention of talking. Mond was holding a wine glass with his claw, gently swirling the red wine inside, while Xu Yang was staring into the distance at the woods, his fingers tracing circles on the tabletop, lost in thought.

At this moment, Farosa realized that not everyone was willing to tolerate her like Xu Yang, and she had never tried to treat others equally.

The joy and self-satisfaction of ascension were temporarily set aside by her. She felt smarter than before, but due to her nature, she would never become completely adaptable; she could only slowly adjust.

"I agree to form an alliance," Farosa approached the pavilion, "but how do we confirm the validity of the pact? The oath of the Forest Master cannot bind you, the divine dragon."

Mond felt quite flattered by the title of dragon god, as he himself had only claimed to be the Dragon King, never daring to usurp the authority of the divine, for only one seated on the Throne of God could be called a god.

"For now, a verbal agreement is enough," Mond said, "Once we rescue the Forest Master and find Yan Duo, this will no longer be a pact between the two of us but a union of four extraordinary beings."

"Please exert a fraction of your power to assist in the rescue of the Forest Master," Farosa requested. "Our modest influence cannot yet reach the Great Northern Region."

"It is only right," Mond stood up, "Please feel free to rest here for now; I need to prepare some gifts for you to take back to the human world."

Mond left within a beam of moonlight.

Farosa sat in the pavilion, leaning on the table.

"I’m going to sleep," she said.

"Sleep as long as you like," Xu Yang watched her.

Farosa closed her eyes to sleep—it was a very peaceful, suitable place for slumber. When she awoke, she found that Xu Yang hadn’t rested at all.

"Why aren’t you sleeping?" she asked.

"I am keeping watch," Xu Yang replied. He did not want to let his guard down, especially in the Moonlight Garden. It was always better to be safe.

A look of weariness crossed Farosa’s face.

"It’s not as simple as before," she remarked.

"You only like situations where you can dominate the whole game," Xu Yang knew Farosa’s mindset well.

If she sensed that things could spiral out of control, she would likely avoid them. Mond, the Moonlight Dragon King, certainly could not be casually controlled by Farosa; he had his own will and could not be subdued by her.

"Yes, but they..." Farosa sighed, "even I don’t recognize all the Ancient Mystics; roughly twenty to thirty of them, scattered across different continents, acting as they please."

"They are history; we are the present and the future."

"I hope so," Farosa said and then shook her head, "I want to go back to rest early. I always hope for a life with just the two of us."

About fifteen minutes later, Mond returned to them, bringing Farosa an orb and preparing a ring for Xu Yang. Both treasures shimmered brilliantly under the eternal night sky.

"This orb contains a wisp of my Moonlight Flame, which can help you melt materials," Mond explained, "You have just acquired newfound power, and should quickly create some reliable magical items."

"Thank you for your support," Farosa accepted the Lunar Fire Orb, feeling a hint of surprise. Currently, this was the most useful item for her; if she could produce useful magical and divine power items, the combat effectiveness of the Witch Council members would significantly increase.

Mond turned to Xu Yang, handing him a dark brown ebony ring.

"My friend, you are still but mortal flesh," Mond said, "This wooden ring carries a powerful protective miracle, able to withstand lethality. Even if overwhelming might attempts to pulverize you to ashes, this ring will keep you safe and unharmed!"
