Chapter 371: Chapter 335: The Ultimate Humanoid
In love, everything was consumed by fire. Taking care of both Farosa and Lila was a daunting task, but Xu Yang did his best, providing fulfillment to them with his seed.
Afterward, Farosa felt the weather outside was too cool and went back inside, looking for a suitable place to rest near the furnace. Lila left the villa to continue working.
As for Xu Yang, he wanted to spend a day disconnected from the network and electronic devices, a choice that required a great deal of courage, since no one knew when the next crucial communication would come through. But he had nothing to lose; the most important women in his life were here.
He turned off Digital Mind’s network module, silencing the bombardment of daily information that popped up incessantly, like clogging the barrel of a gun, preventing further news from bombarding his brain cells. This way, he could concentrate all his attention on the world before him.
Without electronic devices, Xu Yang found time passed exceedingly slowly.
He watched the clouds change shape, feeling like he was wasting time, and went back to check the clock, only to discover it had been just 10 minutes.
Sometime later, Xu Yang changed his clothes. On the way, he saw Farosa, curled up in a warm spot, asleep with her head resting on her forearms and her feet hidden inside the furnace. He sat beside her and began peeling an orange.
came in carrying a bowl of cherries, intending to offer them to Farosa.
She hadn’t come over before because she heard the adults carrying out important tasks. Now, crossing the courtyard, she saw Farosa sleeping soundly, so she placed the bowl of fruit on the table and winked at Xu Yang.
Xu Yang gave 102 a gesture to move out, and they left on tiptoe.
Farosa turned over on the ground, opened her eyes, looking weary.
"Sorry!" 102 hurriedly apologized.
Farosa waved her hand; it wasn’t the noise from 102 that had woken her, but from a nightmare.
In the brief fragmented dream, she saw a face that merged all the witches’ features, where each witch could distinguish their own facial details. But it was a face that spanned the galaxy, already beginning to decay, breaking into pieces, and behind each fragment was a high-powered thruster, peeling them from the whole face, turning them into space-faring vessels wandering the stars.
The sensation of rotting and erosion was so lucid on that face of the deceased, as if it was happening to her own body. Farosa was relieved that Xu Yang was still in the house; otherwise, she would have been sunk in despair.
"I’ll join you outside," Farosa caught up with Xu Yang.
"What’s wrong?" Xu Yang noticed Farosa’s pale complexion.
"I’m not sure yet, so I can’t explain clearly," Farosa said.
In truth, she suspected that her continuous reversing of witch deaths had caught the attention of some existence.
This wasn’t the first time she had done this, as she had already been preventing witches from normally returning to the stars since the resurrection of Mizuiro Yoshioka. Until now, this account also included the drowned Young Witch and the Sakura Witch Reisei Kirino, who were meant to enter the ritual of death and then be projected onto the next witch infants. However, Farosa had completely interrupted this process.
In other words, she defied the norm.
Farosa felt a palpitation. Such a dream was a warning.
But could she stop? With 101 and 102, as synthetic witches, only having four and a half years left to live, was she supposed to watch them turn into mere specks of starlight at the moment of their natural death?
Farosa gave 102 a cold glance. 102 smiled happily at Farosa and offered her several cherries.
To hell with it, thought Farosa. Was she going to lock up the Law of Recovery? She clenched Xu Yang’s hand tightly. She certainly had the right to intervene in life and death, and for someone aspiring to be the Witch Goddess, there was nothing she couldn’t do.
But she needed to gather information. Once she got back to Shijin Mansion, she would get to the bottom of what Mizuiro Yoshioka had experienced during her flesh mass stage, where she went, how she felt, and if she heard the nameless chaos calling out loudly.
"We need more money and witches," Farosa said, "I have too many things to investigate."
"As you wish," Xu Yang said, "But you need to be patient."
"These things are like scratching on my heart," Farosa felt exhausted, "I hope I have enough time to explore the unknown."
"I believe the Elder Dragon knows something, and secrets are also hidden within the Xisheng Shrine," Xu Yang added.
Yes, the ceremony of Honma Noriko, Farosa thought secretly. It’s getting closer to the winter solstice—only 62 days remaining. She still kept her final decision obscured to prevent it from being scrutinized.
Farosa admired Lila for treating people as tools and resources to be collected, seeing herself as a tool serving their master. Farosa would do the same, using Honma Noriko as a tool, looking for opportunities to maximize benefits.
She held Xu Yang’s hand as they walked along the mountain path, asked 102 to turn around, back to them, and then she kissed Xu Yang. It was a very passionate kiss, so lengthy that it gave her a sense of peace.
"What’s wrong..." Xu Yang asked, curious.
Farosa did not speak at first, merely gazing at Xu Yang.
Take a look at this guy, Farosa thought to herself. He provided Lila with the Nestor Corporation and those adorable Young Witches. As for himself, he remained as always, perched on a branch like a little bird, silently watching the world, while his wanted status continually drew him into danger, and his nature made him inclined to lend a hand to others.
If it weren’t for the increasing ties that bound him, he would probably prefer to be a globetrotter. Petty annoyances could empty his willpower and eventually bring him to collapse; he also needed the support of pure emotion.
"I am saving you," Farosa assessed Xu Yang.
Xu Yang said nothing, merely sighed softly and caressed Farosa’s cheek.
turned to look at the two of them, not understanding their meaning.
"You made me and Lila express our own troubles," Farosa said, "what about yours?"
"What’s troubling me now is... a group of people hired to chase me and Pan Ruiyi, still clinging to my original identity," Xu Yang confessed. "After we go back, Pan Ruiyi and I need to settle this problem for good."
"...You will succeed," Farosa said softly, suddenly picturing some terrible scenes in her mind.
She didn’t walk far, stopping under a large plum tree two miles away before turning back again.
"What’s with Farosa?" 102 watched as Farosa walked back to the house.
"She’s troubled by some things, but..." Xu Yang said, "she can overcome them herself. She is more mature now than ever before."
102’s attention wouldn’t linger on Farosa too long because she was still a bit scared of Farosa.
"It’s quite lively over there," 102 said, turning to the outside and pulling Xu Yang’s hand to move forward.
The village was bustling with activity, as though celebrating a festival. After the small interlude, guests arrived one after another, bringing their Shuttle Machines, secretaries, employees, pets, and children, filling every room in the mansion. The pastures on the hillside and the farms at the foot of the mountain were also bustling like never before.
People tended to worship those from prosperous regions, and the villagers who had lived in the mountains for a long time were very fond of the brightly dressed, cybernetically enhanced guests, thus they entertained them with great enthusiasm and well-prepared hospitality, as if by doing so, they too could bask in their glory.
"So many people..." 102 squatted at the edge of the bushes, watching the people come and go on the mountain path, small vehicles traveling on the dirt roads of the countryside, kicking up clouds of dust. "Hmm?"
A specially modified metal truck caught their attention.
Printed on the truck was the conspicuous Xisheng logo, the pale golden artistic font of the words "Xisheng," with the name of the Xisheng Industrial Group written below it. Because it had Xisheng’s authentication and permission, and because it had passed Lila’s security perimeter, it headed up toward Kamibayashi’s Old House on the mountain ridge.
"They are transporting goods up the mountain," Xu Yang observed. "What could the people from Xisheng be bringing into the mountains?"
"Looks like weapons," 102 said, enhancing her vision to take a closer look.
"Let’s hope they’re just here for hunting," Xu Yang said, pausing.
liked hunting; she looked around and saw that indeed more people were out hunting.
The guests enjoyed the natural environment here, and having heard that the Nestor Corporation drove off the large wild animals, they were even less concerned about the threats of the wilderness and set out for the countryside to start hunting.
Cybernetic enhancements could greatly strengthen an individual. Those humans, frail and powerless before their enhancements, would become extraordinary once modified. They generally carried subcutaneous gunpowder launchers, fingertip lasers, thermal imaging vision enhancements, and advanced olfactory systems, hoping to hunt something on their own, making the trip worthwhile.
"I want to go hunting too," 102 said. "To bomb wild pigs with a Short Spear."
"You can’t just run around everywhere. Let’s go back to the courtyard and roast sweet potatoes instead," Xu Yang said.
"Oh, that sounds fun too." 102 liked the smell of roasted sweet potatoes, so she walked back.
Xu Yang didn’t return to the guesthouse but walked towards the main road to catch up with the truck carrying military supplies. It arrived at the front door of the central mansion in the village and unloaded a metal humanoid manufactured by Xisheng.
It looked as fierce and cold-blooded as an animal, apparently loaded with a more sophisticated Second Generation AI, devoid of emotions, expressionless, only observing its surroundings with vision sensors emitting blue light, covered with a layer of amber paint all over, its facial features blurred, seemingly deliberately designed in a non-human, terrifying fashion.
This was the military Synthetic Human manufactured by Xisheng’s technical team.
