Chapter 359 - 327: Heat Ray
Chapter 359: Chapter 327: Heat Ray
"These humans are willing to spend 500 million in funds just to organize a wedding," Farosa said, reading the news and feeling very curious about this wedding.
Wrapped in a white bathrobe, she sat next to the hot spring, enjoying the sensation of steam bathing.
"Weddings are the best occasions to show off wealth," Xu Yang said, standing near the vent where he felt his Digital Mind was almost overheating from the environment, "Out of the 500 million, 40 million in funds are prepared to be paid to us."
"That’s quite a spectacle."
"Do you want to see the wedding?"
"Of course, I do," Farosa pretended to be modest, "but I cannot show my true face."
"You attended grand banquets a thousand years ago, didn’t you? How did you do it back then?"
"Back then, there were no facial recognition technologies, scanners, cameras, fingerprint verification, or drones," Farosa said.
"That’s easy to handle, the security services are entirely our own responsibility, no one will cause trouble," Xu Yang said, "Mainly because I also have to be on-site to personally handle the cybersecurity work."
"That serious?"
"I have to make sure nothing goes wrong. We have a penalty clause. If the wedding goes smoothly, we’ll have lots of money for the next few months to burn through, maintaining the operation of the company. But if risk control fails, we’ll have to sell off Shijin Mansion."
"Then I’ll go too." Farosa was not afraid of losing Shijin Mansion, but she was worried about Xu Yang disappearing off the face of the Earth. The wedding was being held at the former residence of the Kamibayashi Family, located within a vast and rarely visited bamboo forest 50 kilometers from Anjiu City. If something happened, she would not be able to get there quickly.
Xu Yang and she returned to the secret chamber’s hall.
"Did you order a lot of books last night?" Xu Yang saw the merchant panel on the smart screen, with a shopping cart stuffed with various items, most of which were books, and some antiques. Due to the dangerous journey, their shipping costs were ten times the price.
"Ancient manuscripts, recording the details of rituals. I need to reread them to strengthen my memory to avoid any mistakes," Farosa said with a smile.
"You seem quite happy?"
"Of course, can you not feel that surprise—opening websites of some private collectors in Taixi Continent and discovering they actually have one or two manuscripts that I have personally read. Once they are delivered, I’ll even see my fingerprints and doodles left behind a thousand years ago."
"These antique dealers are quite suspicious, they could be corporate moths, secretly collecting these mysticism materials, waiting for the Corporate Alliance to weaken before making their move. Or simply spies left by the Corporate Alliance, ready to lure the snake out of the hole."
"That’s why I haven’t rushed to pay," Farosa said, tossing away her bathrobe for her formal attire, "I’ve been waiting for you... you were... distracted by the child."
"It’ll get better when she grows up," Xu Yang kissed Farosa’s face.
Lately, he had been resting alone because Little Fool insisted on holding his arm to sleep. Now that Little Fool was taken by Yamano Sanae to have a bath, he could find the time to visit Farosa.
Xu Yang helped Farosa check those private sellers until he figured out their backgrounds.
Only two-thirds of the goods were safe; the rest were phishing programs provided by agents and investigators of the Corporate Alliance, specifically designed to hunt down Secret Ritual Groups and mystery cults around the world.
"That was a close call," Farosa said as she massaged Xu Yang’s shoulders, "I really can’t manage without you."
"They are indeed trying hard," Xu Yang said, "in some sense, they are the guardians of humanity."
"But they won’t stop me," Farosa said disdainfully, "they are opposing the entire course of history. I am the one destined by the heavens."
They walked onto the long corridor outside the secret chamber, with deep brown embroidered carpets covering the wooden floors, and several aluminum alloy boxes of different sizes lined up against the wall, filled with miscellaneous items waiting for Farosa’s restoration.
Before Farosa could lift a hand, she saw the elevator arrive on the same floor.
As the doors opened, Yamano Sanae, pale-faced, came forward, holding in her arms a pale, soaked Little Witch.
"Is she dead?" asked Xu Yang.
Yamano Sanae’s expression was pale, unable to trust her own memory.
The Little Witch had drowned in the bath.
When she saw this scene, she almost went mad, but the other Little Witches were laughing and playing as usual, not taking this seriously at all.
"Just go to Mother Farosa," they said so casually in the face of death.
That’s why she brought the deceased Little Witch to Lady Farosa.
With an indifferent smile on her face, Farosa watched as Yamano Sanae, fearful, placed the dead Little Witch into an empty box, then she bowed earnestly to Farosa.
"Please! Lady Farosa... please save this child," she said.
"Relax," Farosa clenched her right hand and then opened it.
A flash of bright red light, crimson as blood.
Accompanied by a low whining sound, the Little Witch suddenly stood up from the box, climbed out on her own, looked around with wide eyes, blinked at Yamano Sanae, waved at Xu Yang, and as soon as she saw Farosa, she immediately saluted her.
"Honorable Mother Farosa, I thank you for restoring life to me," said the Little Witch.
"Stay away from deep water next time," Farosa slightly lifted her hand to signal that she could leave.
The Little Witch left the corridor with ease, took the elevator downstairs to play. Yamano Sanae watched everything intently, her breathing rapid.
"Children don’t respect life and death, and that’s not good," Xu Yang said.
"What they should respect is the power itself," Farosa smiled, taking Xu Yang’s hand, "When a power is strong enough to conquer life and death, then life and death itself become insignificant. Let’s go see Laila Medusa."
Together, they walked toward the elevator, which for some unknown reason had been called away by someone else.
When the elevator came back, its doors opened, and they saw the Little Fool standing in the corner, staring intently at Xu Yang.
"Did you wash up all by yourself?" Xu Yang picked up the Little Fool.
The Little Fool didn’t move, just looked in one direction.
"I don’t think we should perform any implant surgeries to augment her intelligence," Farosa said, "This is her nature and ability, this is the form she is meant to show. Witches should be completely isolated from implant technology; our natural form is perfect as it is."
"That’s not for you to say..." Xu Yang lifted the Little Fool up to the elevator buttons, "Press 4, baby."
She stretched out her hand and pressed the button for the fourth floor.
"... Back to what we were saying," Xu Yang continued, "You can’t decide whether witches should have implants based on your preferences. It’s a personal issue that should be entirely determined by their free will. If they find body modification useful, then they should have the surgery."
"They don’t know what they’re doing."
Upon reaching the fourth floor, they walked through the corridor, the blast-proof door, and the sealed sterilization chamber, to the nursery for infant witches. Laila Medusa’s incubator was adorned with a special label, signifying her special status as someone personally attended to by Farosa. Her identity was indeed special, abandoned by the marginal human society, yet ultimately saved by humans, entering Shijin Mansion from the very beginning and named personally by Farosa.
Since undergoing surgery at the hands of the Doctor’s White Coat, Laila hadn’t opened her eyes, simply breathing evenly. Every so often, a milk bottle would descend to a position where she could suckle.
"Open it," Farosa commanded.
Yamano Sanae entered the password, opened the incubator, and upon detecting a subtle change in the air, Laila trembled slightly, waving her reddened little hands and feet on the pink bedsheet.
"Can you block her light?" Xu Yang pinched the Little Fool’s face, then lifted her above Laila’s incubator.
The Little Fool reached out, ready for anything.
"Open your eyes, my child," Farosa whispered.
Yamano Sanae held her breath.
Laila opened her eyes, and a pair of intense red laser beams burst forth swiftly, striking the invisible wall of air and vanishing after approximately 0.75 seconds.
The Little Fool seemed uncomfortable, her meager magic power completely drained, now feeling weak, resting on Xu Yang’s shoulder.
Correspondingly, Laila’s baby-level magic power was also depleted, she opened her eyes wide, reaching out to Farosa as if begging for her embrace.
"Heat rays—something I’ve only heard about—are especially powerful magic capable of leveling everything," Farosa cradled Laila, rocking her gently; she made a thin babbling sound, instinctively searching for Farosa’s wavelength.
Xu Yang accessed the environmental measurement readings panel.
"The energy she released from her eyes just now was very strong, comparable to a single blast from a laser rifle," Xu Yang nodded, "This child is only ten days old and has already caught up with three hundred years of human technological advancement."
"It’s just the beginning," Farosa caressed Laila’s little cheek, "Do you know? This is my child. I will raise her to be just like me. In the past, humans were scarce, as were witches. Most of the time, there would be only one Empress at a time. But now it’s different, as the number of witches born from a population of 10 billion exceeds any in history, and powerful magic types are common. I will raise an Empress-level Witch Legion, all my children, and Laila Medusa will use her heat rays to destroy air fleets."
"They’re not just your children," Xu Yang said, "They have their own lives and choices, and you can’t control them all."
The Little Fool was proof of this, as she was only close to Xu Yang and didn’t particularly like Farosa.
At this moment, the Little Fool’s attention had shifted to Farosa, looking at her with sympathetic and wise eyes, which greatly irritated Farosa.
She’s only three, Farosa thought. How much more terrifying she will become at twenty-three.
"So there will also be divisions among witches. Some are smart, and some are just... Little Fools, look at her dumb appearance," Farosa grumbled discontentedly.
"Gah," said the Little Fool.
"She’s just unique. Alright, the older ones are in the back." Carrying the Little Fool in one hand, Xu Yang used the other to print out the surgery report from the Doctor’s White Coat, "Doctor’s White Coat discovered that Laila is a dual magic power holder, with heat rays as only her first ability, while the other is still unknown to us."
"I’m really looking forward to it," Farosa kissed Laila’s little face, then placed her back in the incubator.
Laila kept her eyes open, observing this world, small red flames flickering in her eyes, but nothing serious.
"I’ll keep her on her back," said Yamano Sanae.
"Just now, she probably exhausted all the magic power accumulated in her mother’s womb over ten months," Xu Yang said, "When she grows up, I’m afraid the moment she opens her eyes in the morning she’ll punch holes through the entire dormitory."
The thought of that scene scared Yamano Sanae.
"Don’t worry," Farosa looked at Yamano Sanae, signaling her to be at ease, "Before that, we need to prepare a magic Restrictor. Can we get one?"
Xu Yang thought of the Restrictors that Black Fire Innovation used to control the witches.
"That’s classified technology," Xu Yang said, "We’ll only know once we defeat Black Fire Innovation. For now... let’s go attend the wedding."
