Chapter 289: Chapter 261 Pan Ruiyi
Silence. Matsuyama Yoshiharu’s face was filled with fear as he stepped back while Farosa advanced towards him step by step, her footsteps particularly heavy, like a harbinger of death.
More people hurriedly ran out of the shrine, and as the commotion here started, the others inside who felt threatened also nervously approached, one after another wanting to understand what was happening. Seeing Matsuyama Yoshiharu knocked to the ground and no trace of other Phase Demons, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
"Everyone go back to your homes," Xu Yang said, "Hurry up and leave."
"Ah... can we..." They had other thoughts in mind.
"You can’t." Farosa swung her sword, and her magic power exploded on the ground, chopping Matsuyama Yoshiharu into pieces.
He didn’t even have time to scream before most of his body was turned into a puddle of mush. Dissatisfied, she swung her sword at the corpse on the ground two more times, the overflowing magic power carrying with it destructive force, instantly smashing Matsuyama Yoshiharu into even more broken fragments, his viscera, intestines, and flesh all but blood plasma, blood dripping everywhere.
"Ahhh—"
"Help!"
"Wahh—" The sight of Matsuyama Yoshiharu being turned into a bloody mess instantly drained the courage from the people, as they fled down the mountain in the middle of the night, the inside of the Thousand Blessings Shrine in complete disarray.
"What’s behind the crack?" Xu Yang walked up to the edge of a pool of dazzling colors.
"According to the stone tablet inscriptions I’ve decoded," Farosa crouched down to observe, "it’s a rocky mountain, which is a high point on Nangong Island with a good view."
"Once the threat of Phase Demons is lifted, security from other companies will soon be in place. Let’s go," Xu Yang said.
"Do you jump first, or do I?" Farosa pondered.
"I’ll go first." Xu Yang leaped forward but was stopped by Farosa.
"Don’t, I’m afraid you’ll die," Farosa murmured.
"Then together." Xu Yang was grabbed by Farosa, his body hanging mid-air, almost feeling the crack drawing him in.
"Together." Farosa leaned forward, and they both jumped into the crack together, entering Nangong Island.
—The brain buzzed.
As soon as they landed, the Cloud Beast detected a threat, automatically lifting its wearer. Xu Yang instinctively dodged to the side as a Phase Demon that had been waiting under the crack for a long time lunged, extending its terrifying claws, ready to slash them apart.
Farosa hit the ground and immediately grabbed a Magic Blade, stabbing fiercely, severing the arm the Phase Demon had stretched out. Realizing that these two were not easy to mess with, it vanished immediately fleeing far away.
Nangong Island!
Xu Yang wiped the sweat from his brow and looked up to see an extremely horrifying scene—the Martinez was dragging a ferocious black behemoth, gliding across the sky.
The Martinez itself was an extremely large space mothership, to Xu Yang’s knowledge, measuring 600 meters in length and 400 meters at its widest, like a floating piece of small land in the sky, and dragging behind it was a creature even more burly than itself. Just glancing at it imposed a strong mental shock on Xu Yang. He had to lower his head first and let Digital Mind process his memory anew to prevent the terrifying impression from dominating his mind, then make precise adjustments to his vision before he could look up again.
The monster, huge as a hill, had most of its body covered in thick and deformed bones, with tens of thousands of circular protrusions that looked like countless human faces. Its arms were extremely long, disproportionate to the size of its body, mostly hanging on either side of its torso. The most exaggerated was its fierce head with no eyes, but a big bloody mouth, and long, heavy horns hanging on both sides of its head, connected with the bony shell of its head as if it had a giant helmet directly attached to its brain.
Dragged by the Martinez, the creature glided through the air like a zombie, emitting sharp and horrifying screams. Xu Yang had to cover his ears to slightly reduce its impact. He stepped back, trying to distance himself from the mental shock, while Farosa, who was more resilient, ran down the rocky mountain to avoid being discovered by the Martinez and the terrifying creature, with Xu Yang following closely behind.
Hiding behind the rocks, preventing himself from seeing the Martinez and the terrifying creature in the sky, Xu Yang looked around. Most of Nangong Island was utterly distorted with dark terrain, the ground overgrown with flesh-like vines, surfaces that should have been made of rock replaced with swollen biological organs, covered in unsightly fascia, unnaturally twisting and throbbing. The air was filled with a strong smell of blood; it could be described as a slaughterhouse.
Various sizes of Phase Demons floated and wandered around the island, appearing and disappearing intermittently. The island and the surrounding waters had sunk into an alternate space. Gazing into the distance, water continuously fell from the edge of the world, and by now it had almost dried up, exposing most of the coastline. The seabed was littered with a vast number of company ships, which must have all crashed into it as the anomaly occurred and were now completely paralyzed, immobile, their metal hulls covered with an unknown crimson substance. The edges of the world were shrouded with a kaleidoscope of lights, representing the temptations of the void, chaos, and death.
Xu Yang pressed his head; the situation was a million times worse than he had imagined. Nangong Island had fallen into such a bizarre place, and the Martinez and the huge monster were inexplicably connected.
"Pan Ruiyi is still alive," Farosa checked the soul oath mark, "I really don’t know how she has managed to survive in such a gloomy place."
"You were talking about using the Sand of Stars to stabilize Nangong Island earlier?" Xu Yang looked around, feeling as if he had entered into an even larger monster and was moving in its repulsive and stinky stomach.
"It’s very useful," Farosa took out the Sand of Stars, poured a tiny amount of grains from the bottle, and slapped it on the ground. Instantly, a small patch of land saw the ugly appearance fade, and the original green grass of Nangong Island sprouted, "See, we still have hope."
"Unless the Martinez above us and the creature it’s dragging can be killed," Xu Yang raised his head.
That was an utterly impossible task, the Martinez alone, a state-of-the-art space mothership, could not be dealt with single-handedly, not to mention the unknown life form it was dragging – eerie and massive, surely possessing various inscrutable abilities, it could not be eradicated easily. According to the current intelligence, it should be what Matsuyama Yoshiharu referred to as "Yama", which had been sealed on Nangong Island for a long time.
It had plunged into a spatial rift together with Nangong Island, which wasn’t hard to understand, but why had the Martinez entered as well? And instead of fighting it, the ship was shuttling through the sky as if dragging livestock.
"Then let’s find Pan Ruiyi first and take her away," Farosa stood up, looking around, "Once I become a deity, all of the annoying things will be killed by me."
Xu Yang scanned the surrounding environment, already in an alternate space, so the traces of every signal access point were fairly obvious; he tried to search for devices on the island that had signal transmission capabilities, some were still moving.
"I’ve found some devices," Xu Yang checked the signal list, "but I can’t send them a message. The signal environment here is too rudimentary, and it’s very easy to be captured by the mothership above."
"Let’s be cautious and head to the nearest one," Farosa thought.
"The nearest one is inside the mountain," Xu Yang looked towards the distorted terrain; the rock mountains in the center seemed to have been struck by a meteorite, creating a deep dent where four signal points were buried. It seemed worth investigating.
"..." Farosa looked up from her hiding spot to the enormous Martinez in the sky and the Yama it was pulling, it seemed to be circling in the air, unable to leave this place smoothly.
Putting her thoughts aside, Farosa followed Xu Yang into the cave; he turned on the lighting lamp on the Cloud Beast, and after being sufficiently illuminated, red scars densely covered the cave walls like a complex network of human blood vessels, both color and outline eerily strange.
"Who’s there?" came a rough shout from further inside the cave.
Without a word, Farosa released her life-reaping power; if she killed the wrong person by mistake, she could just revive them later. Her palm flashed with a gray light and a scythe-like magic power swept forward, the sounds of desperate screams and flesh bursting filled the passage, and everyone inside was annihilated in an instant.
She dashed forward, the surroundings were bloody and chaotic, even those hidden in the crevices couldn’t escape the power of the life-reaping, the ground was littered with chunks of bodies, some scattered, some bagged.
Xu Yang used the shoulder lamp on his armor to light a Black Fire Innovation security uniform; the pieces of flesh were meticulously stacked inside.
"Black Fire Innovation people," Xu Yang knelt on one knee, checking the identification plate, "And still crew members of the Martinez."
In the midst of their conversation, a girl with brown braided hair and a panicked expression approached, carrying a shotgun and wearing a uniform with the Kyoto Infinity cherry blossom logo. She was startled to see the Black Fire Innovation people slaughtered all over the ground.
"You, you..." she trembled nervously.
"It’s okay; don’t be nervous. Where is Pan Ruiyi?" Xu Yang soothed her, "We are her friends."
"...She’s inside," the girl said fearfully.
"Lead the way, or become a corpse," Farosa threatened.
She turned and led them sweatily into the dark depths of the passage, where there was a semi-circular pit similar to a temporary shelter, with a few demoralized security personnel remaining.
There, Xu Yang saw Pan Ruiyi. Most of her body was shattered, and the Battle Witch’s armor had completely disintegrated. When she saw Xu Yang, she was a bit surprised, but gradually her expression softened.
"You guys..." Pan Ruiyi murmured.
"Came especially to rescue you," Xu Yang squatted beside her.
"There’s no point," Pan Ruiyi’s expression turned bleak. "It’s too late. We’re out of ammunition... Neither the Martinez nor the Yama is an opponent we can defeat... My body... My shattered body can no longer undertake any battle."
"Did you sustain the injuries a few days ago?" Xu Yang asked.
"Five days ago," Pan Ruiyi sighed.
Farosa released the Law of Recovery.
Pan Ruiyi immediately rose from the rocks.
"Damn it, let’s go," she said, "fight it out with them!"
