Chapter 1220: Chapter 938: Communication from the Bunker
From the perspective of ordinary New Taixi State citizens in Motor City, it was as if the "enemy" invaded overnight, announcing the city’s change of ownership.
The Lighthouse Core Enterprise Army they relied on before, and Nestor’s Angel Legion, were all massacred, with bodies scattered across the streets.
Their homes were devastated by the war, with a fire sweeping through the entire city still burning. Water, electricity, roads, and other basic infrastructure were all destroyed, leaving them unable to maintain basic living.
Xu Cheng saw them all bowing their heads, tightly clasping their hands, or holding the hands of those beside them.
What kind of comfort were they seeking? Xu Cheng did not know. They seemed to be searching for some kind of healing, or a release of their spirits. Perhaps they were terribly afraid, becoming citizens of the "occupied zone" overnight.
"Here it is." Goodman nodded at Xu Cheng.
He glanced at the destroyed tower and the ruins of the corridor next to the hall, with huge holes in the roof as well, but he was powerless.
Reverend Goodman performed his duties, stepping forward to officiate the prayer rituals for the people.
Xu Cheng observed carefully.
Reverend Goodman had some people with devout expressions kneel on the slabs in front of Dilnai, raising their hands as if to pray for the souls who died yesterday and today, begging for some grace or mercy from Dilnai for them.
They wholeheartedly devoted their minds and bodies to Dilnai, such ancient Mystics.
There was a strange atmosphere here, especially united, mystical, and serene, different from other ancient Mystics’ worshippers. Xu Cheng sat down on a bench.
White candles were lit around, casting dozens of overlapping shadows behind them.
"Brothers and sisters, compatriots, as long as we continue to hold trust in each other, and more importantly, worship Lord Dilnai more devoutly, we will gradually regain our former good life. Now, please maintain patience and restraint, because life must go on." Reverend Goodman preached and comforted the people.
"Yes, yes..."
"Sigh..."
They sincerely believed that Dilnai could overcome all difficulties and grant them protection and blessings. Xu Cheng thought.
After the terror of yesterday’s war, these citizens became even more reliant on Dilnai’s worship, using faith to calm their inner anxiety and fear.
Xu Cheng looked at the statue of Dilnai in the center, people’s wishes increasingly focused on Dilnai, granting her incomparable Divine Power.
Xu Cheng shook her head.
Dad always said it was better to rely on oneself than on others!
She walked out of the dilapidated main hall and returned to the silent streets post-war.
Most of Motor City’s urban areas were occupied by soldiers from the Eastern Hemisphere.
In the early stages of occupation, the people’s desire to resist was intense.
The proliferation of firearms had plagued New Taixi State for years, and now it was a major problem for the occupying forces as well. Many enraged New Taixi State citizens fired upon the occupiers, with over a hundred death sentences pronounced each hour.
Security squads were dispatched to different streets, responsible for restricting people’s movements and controlling the misuse of ammunition.
The streets were pockmarked, Xu Cheng could not find a single intact street nearby. Nestor Corporation’s robots patrolled the streets, proving their military presence, repeatedly reminding every New Taixi State person who couldn’t grasp the situation of this city’s new ownership.
Screams rang out in the distance, catching Xu Cheng’s attention.
She walked over and saw a woman arguing with a robot.
The woman wore a brown duster coat, gray tights with high heels, heavy makeup, curled golden hair, and a face full of anger.
Xu Cheng believed she definitely used a lot of beastification mutagens on herself because she even had conspicuous orange cat ears! A catwoman!
"I just want to go for a walk! The war is over, shouldn’t we have basic freedom?" the catwoman protested fiercely.
"This is a time of military control, unauthorized personnel are not allowed to go out. Please go home immediately!" said the robot soldier.
"Are you here to rescue us or torture us? Aren’t you just imprisoning us? What do you take us for? Prisoners? Or slaves?" she questioned.
"I just follow orders. Please go home, or you will be detained." said the robot.
The woman’s actions changed suddenly.
Xu Cheng sensed she wanted to act, so she raised her hand in advance, releasing the Repulsion Barrier.
In an instant, she shot a highly lethal Monomolecular Wire from the containment box on her arm. In this era, no one could be underestimated, likely having their entire body equipped with mass destruction weapons.
The golden Monomolecular Wire struck fiercely on Xu Cheng’s summoned Magic Power wall and quickly rebounded. Yet no one noticed Xu Cheng’s subtle action.
Detecting hostility, the robot swung a baton, striking hard on the catwoman’s face, nearly caving it in!
"This is a warning." The robot recorded her features, identity code, photographed her, and filed it, then continued patrolling the next block.
The woman’s face was almost cracked open, her nose collapsed in the middle, and one of her eyeballs skewed outward.
Xu Cheng felt herself drawn in, unable to stand by idly. She could imagine the tension between the occupiers and the citizens, but she hadn’t expected it to be so terrifying, almost beating the person to death.
She gulped, quickly running over, picking up the catwoman with effort, and carried her toward the Dilnai Charity Club direction.
Panting, Xu Cheng carried the catwoman into the dim main hall, laying her on one of the benches, and called out to Reverend Goodman, who hurriedly came over.
