Chapter 1205: Chapter 926: 1.8 Million Echoes
The path leading to the core area of the laboratory is paved with black asphalt, as if pasted on the desert like black tape.
Xu Cheng turns her head and sees a large patch of strange plants growing among the tangled shrubs, motionless in the dim and hazy sunlight.
"I saw these extraterrestrial plants in Italia," Xu Cheng says to Laila, "Maybe this place has also been transformed by aliens."
"They want to turn our home into theirs, and that’s something we will never agree to," Laila declares strongly.
They walk for at least 15 minutes before soon seeing a super-giant circular dome structure, completely black, as if a perfect piece of craftsmanship has been overturned onto the earth.
"What’s that dome for?" Xu Cheng raises her hand to point.
"The largest ’black wall’ in the Western Hemisphere," the soldier hesitates before speaking.
"What is the black wall?" Xu Cheng tilts her head.
"..." The soldier doesn’t continue, seemingly to avoid frightening them.
No matter how Xu Cheng asks, the soldier refuses to mention anything about the black wall.
Finally, there’s the main building of the laboratory.
After passing through five validations, the soldier opens the door and gestures for Xu Cheng and Laila to enter.
"Straight on, take the elevator to the seventh underground level." The soldier remains outside on guard.
"So mysterious." Xu Cheng walks forward.
The lights in the laboratory are bright, reminding Xu Cheng of a lone laboratory she once infiltrated, the surroundings silent as if only the two of them were there.
"..." Laila remains silent, observing her surroundings.
The laboratory is both exquisite and eerie, as if only a few elite personnel have always worked here.
Maybe because the research conducted here is too advanced, even the sponsors of the projects have given up hope, with a hint of laissez-faire? Xu Cheng murmurs.
Following the soldier’s instructions, Xu Cheng enters the elevator, looking from above down, she notices that each level is marked with different languages.
"What language is this?" Laila sees that each level of the laboratory is marked in three languages.
"The first one is our common language, the second one is Secret Script," Xu Cheng understands the Secret Script, "The third one I’m not sure about."
"Does the content expressed in Secret Script and common language match?" Laila feels they don’t correspond in length, as if they describe completely different matters.
Xu Cheng checks carefully.
Underground Level 1: Garden (Secret Script: Exoplanetary Plant Science Layer)
Underground Level 2: Pineal Sport Club (Secret Script: Witch Brain Dissection Site and Witch Physiology Institute)
Underground Level 3: Meditation Room (Secret Script: Subsample Psychic Potential, Memory and Magic Analysis Institute)
Underground Level 4: Cell Science Education Classroom (Secret Script: Unknown Atomic Biological Component Synthesis Institute)
Underground Level 5: Animation Screening Room (Secret Script: Organic and Inorganic Entity Implantation and Enhancement Testing Area)
Underground Level 6: Stadium (Secret Script: Flesh and Blood Foundry; Unnatural Biological Forms Design Institute)
Underground Level 7: Gallery (Secret Script: Yousu People’s Homecoming Experiment Base/Yousu People’s Shelter Facility)
Xu Cheng swallows saliva and still presses the underground seventh-floor button.
The elevator emits a gentle hum, transporting them to the bottom of the laboratory.
As the doors open, Xu Cheng feels it’s cold here, the underground chill of the low-temperature laboratory making her a bit tense.
This time Laila is not so considerate, only curious about everything. Following Laila’s gaze, Xu Cheng sees many strange warnings on the walls, preventing them from moving freely, most areas requiring fairly high-level permissions and access cards to enter and exit.
Xu Cheng and Laila follow the only visitor route open to them, eventually entering a secret laboratory.
Xu Yang and Farosa stand next to a huge glass container, carefully inspecting the contents of the glass.
"Quack..." Xu Cheng looks up at the glass container, feeling somewhat shocked.
In the morbid purple solution, a bizarre creature is suspended.
Its main body is roughly cylindrical, where there shouldn’t be limbs, pairs of irregular slender appendages grow chaotically, pincers covered with shells, its eyes elongated into columnar eyes, like those of insects and ants.
It possesses many light-sensitive organs for assisting detection, and also has special tentacles, all growing from its moist sheath base, trailing long flagella, each flagellum quivering as if absorbing surrounding air.
Xu Cheng sees the slow, undulating pulse wriggling between its translucent-skinned carapace, as if dozens of bugs crawl under its skin every second.
Xu Cheng feels like she’s going to vomit.
"Ugh..." Xu Cheng bends down.
"Oh, you’re here." Xu Yang turns his head to see Xu Cheng, beckoning her to come over.
"Dad?" Xu Cheng raises her head; Xu Yang seems to have grown taller.
"There have been many enhancement surgeries these past weeks, now I seem sturdier than before." Xu Yang lifts Xu Cheng with one hand, letting her sit on his solid wrist.
"What’s that?" Xu Cheng leans against her dad’s strong chest, feeling much more at ease, "I’ve seen this before."
"’Yousu People.’ Where have you seen it?" Xu Yang is curious.
"It was one time, I saw a huge monster, Mother Farosa said it was a ’Clinger,’ then I felt weird, got sucked into a jar, surrounded by tons of such monsters." Xu Cheng tells her dad of the thrilling adventure she encountered while delivering parcels.
"That must’ve been dangerous." Xu Yang becomes alert, "Yousu People have established a very large data center in Bante Highlands on White Elephant Continent, the data rooms there are connected worldwide, where they steal technology, conducting some of the most dangerous researches...you might’ve been captured there."
