Chapter 1166: Chapter 898: A Sincere Gift for You

The sound of reciting poetry made her feel at peace. She slowly walked away, hands clasped behind her back, kicking stones on the street with her shoes.

Some children in the school saw her and were very curious why Xu Cheng wasn’t working or studying, but idling around?

Xu Cheng walked to the canal by Sevaburg, where the river flowed through a man-made waterway, connecting to the gray, misty sea. She sat on the gray artificial riverbank, where the stones used as revetment were large and heavy, likely ten times older than her.

She needed a break.

Xu Cheng was tired. She had watched the Battle Witches leave the building for the front lines time and again, and now it was her turn to wander around. Thinking of this, she squeezed her fingers. This was her expedition, a child’s expedition.

Quietly watching the water flow from Sevaburg to the sea, Xu Cheng thought of water flow, waves, the coast, and the bathroom. She leaned slightly forward, cradling her face with her hands.

Oh, how she wanted to jump in, swim through it, maybe even swim back to the Northern Archipelago. The world was folded together like this, the sea leading to anywhere was no surprise.

Xu Cheng propped her chin with her hand, just daydreaming while sitting on the embankment, surrounded by a few tufts of weeds, two bricks, and a skinny mother cat.

Suddenly, there were happy shouts behind her. Xu Cheng turned her head and saw a horse pulling goods towards the apartment buildings behind her.

People quickly ran down, children running around the cart, shouting, "Supplies are here!" "Food has arrived!"

They gathered to collect the delivered supplies, including precious food, medicine, and tool materials.

A person wearing a Red Star Cap worked respectfully, politely asking everyone’s names, registering the supply distribution, greeting each resident, and striving to remember everyone’s names to ensure nothing went wrong.

"Thanks for your hard work!"

"Finally, there’s something delivered."

"I really want to know who risked their life to pass through the fog..."

"Turns out the Envoys are still working!"

"If only more Envoys dared to cross the restricted zone." They chatted eagerly, while taking the supplies back home, carrying meat, cans, vegetables, and candies in one hand, and books and newspapers in the other.

Xu Cheng heard their words of gratitude, and her face flushed, involuntarily rubbing her cheeks with both hands.

She imagined, if she jumped out now, telling them she piloted the Shuttle Machine here, how surprised they would be. Look—a mere child...

The supply cart left, and Xu Cheng stayed behind. She observed the various parts of the canal, people figuring out ways to rebuild and maintain their homes, trying to plant more crops, dismantling unnecessary buildings to recycle resources, struggling to survive in Sevaburg for six years, but they needed the Envoys, needed people like her.

The setting sun painted the sky blood red, as Bubble came over, panting.

At this time, Xu Cheng had been sitting by the canal bank for several hours, feeling no problem at all.

"So, you’re here the whole time!" Bubble said, plopping down beside Xu Cheng.

"Guabu." Xu Cheng pointed her finger around.

Bubble saw a dismantled warehouse on the riverbank, a brick wall about 10 meters high, a metal sewage pipe no longer spewing waste, and a broken bicycle half-buried in the ground, as if its original owner buried it there with intent to return someday to reclaim it, but never could.

"You’ve been looking at all sorts of things, really worrying me, I almost couldn’t find you." Bubble casually described her hours of searching, having scoured every corner of Sevaburg, until most people could recognize this green-haired, green-eyed girl filled with anxiety.

"Guabu?" Xu Cheng sensed Bubble was rummaging in her pocket, seemingly about to give her something.

"I dealt with the people here, traded some supplies, and Lianhua also did business. I’ve got a present for you." Bubble eyed mischievously, as if she thought Xu Cheng would like what she presented.

"Gua!" Xu Cheng was very curious.

"Bubble!" Like a magician, Bubble pulled out a pair of communication devices from her hand.

They were like a pair of larger buttons, with a fluorescent panel in the center, showing little dots and directional arrows.

Xu Cheng was mesmerized.

Bubble placed one of the locators in Xu Cheng’s palm, folding Xu Cheng’s fingers over it, letting her hold it tight.

"How about it?" Bubble looked at Xu Cheng with anticipation and eagerness.

"Guagua..." Xu Cheng held it up high toward the setting sun, the sunlight casting their long shadows on the Sevaburg canal.

"...I’m really worried in the future about being separated from you, or like today, you wandering off alone, making me unable to find you, feeling really anxious." Bubble looked up at the sunset, "But now, with these trackers in hand, we don’t have to fear losing each other anymore."

Xu Cheng suddenly became interested.

She let Bubble hold onto the little button, never letting go, and then she quickly ran off.

After running about 500 meters away, Xu Cheng arrived at a small park in the neighborhood, most of the flowers were uprooted, the original soil cleared out, heaped into ridges for planting potatoes.

Xu Cheng walked, not looking at the road, only staring at the locator in her hand, letting it lead the way.

The arrow turned, the display clear, showing Bubble’s little dot; she just had to follow the arrow closer to the little dot.

She walked slowly, listening to the sound of the canal water growing nearer, and when the two dots finally overlapped, she looked up and saw that Bubble was indeed there.

"Guaya..." Xu Cheng was amazed, feeling incredible about the magical gadget Bubble had obtained.

"I wish...I hope you can always find me." Bubble sat on the riverbank, clutching her locator tightly, "And I will always be able to find you."

"Guagua." Xu Cheng found it amazing.

She kept fiddling with the locator, this slick metal device had been through wind and rain, its surface showing faint etching marks, yet it could always precisely locate their positions.

"Once we venture too far, the signal gets cut off, and we can never find each other again." Bubble stood and looked at Xu Cheng, "So, let’s never stray too far from each other, okay..."

Thinking that venturing too far would render this interesting gadget useless, all the arrows and little dots disappearing, Xu Cheng hurriedly put it into her pocket, then patted Bubble’s shoulder.

"Mm! Mm! Gua! Gua!" Xu Cheng would not stray too far from Bubble.

They held hands as they returned to the small cabin beside the airport.

In the following days, Xu Cheng tested it several times, mostly during hide-and-seek games. She was thrilled, often pulling out the locator to confirm where Bubble was.

They were like two lead balls tied on a string, swaying any which way, but never too far from each other. Xu Cheng and Bubble had once been lost in the intricate streets of Sevaburg; now, they had a clue connecting them, always able to bring each other back together.

To Xu Cheng, Bubble was the person closest to the world and memories she was familiar with. Just seeing Bubble would not let her forget all the beauty of the past.

This pair of trackers was even more useful, for now, no matter what, they could find the way to each other, through darkness, obstacles, and time itself.

Bubble, no matter where you go, I’ll always find you.
