Chapter 1122: Chapter 868: Sisters in the Mist
Breaking is necessary to establish, blockage hinders flow, without halting, there can be no progress.
The environment is so harsh that even ghosts suffer in the Netherworld, thus they become more anxious and angry.
The emergence of the Mt. Kuro’s Expedition Team is like shattering a dam, unleashing a mighty tide of ghosts towards the end of the Styx River.
"At least millions of ghosts..." Wei Shiyue flies high in the sky.
"I’ve never seen anything like this." Farosa proceeds on foot, the ghosts instinctively avoid the living aura, she resembles a rock in the rapids, flowing ghosts glide past her.
These ghosts are as cold as ice; whenever Farosa touches them, she feels a chilling cold that pierces through her bones, but this is precisely what she seeks—to read memories and emotions from the misty shells of the ghosts.
Ghosts are truly strange; feelings and psyche they struggled to conceal in life are now entirely exposed, their souls transparent with no means of hiding.
Among nearly ten million ghosts, half died naturally, but more perished due to conflicts, murder, disease, and hunger.
"So many dead people, they are endless; if they all returned to the human world, it would be a grand spectacle." Easter says innocently.
"It’s not good at all; the more deaths there are, the more people fear dying, and Pomorty’s power becomes even stronger." Yao Guang understands part of the mystics’ principles; even though she has witnessed various bizarre things, she feels unprecedented fear, and if Pomorty appears, it would be a fierce battle.
At the end of the procession of ghosts, the Netherworld Giant God Pomorty coldly awaits; after years of cultivation, its power is likely exceptionally strong.
"You’re afraid of Pomorty, but the ghosts are not." Cyber Specter says.
"Why? Pomorty is the mystic who rules all specters, and the ghosts have no power to resist. Once Pomorty shows up, even more ghosts will be claimed." Yao Guang dismisses.
The ghosts beside Yao Guang hear her words but show no sign of wavering; shining from their clear, glass-like souls is nothing but contempt and fearlessness.
"Look at these ghosts; they fear not for they have already experienced death; they dread not pain for they have already endured it; they are not afraid of power because they are already on the path of opposing it." Cyber Specter says.
"...Unbelievable..." Yao Guang finds it hard to comprehend. But she feels she is becoming part of a greater cause.
Previously employed by the Corporate Alliance, Yao Guang was sent as a special commissioner to combat Ancient Mystics, like a needle constantly pricking at the enemy’s weak points. Now she feels like a ripple in the torrent, able not only to hear its rolling roar firsthand, but also follow the tide crashing into iron walls!
As ghosts press forward, the Styx River flows beside them mightily, and if they continue along its path, they’ll find the whirlpool gate for reincarnation.
Farosa strolls through the Afterlife World, amused at herself for having despised sunlight for being too hot, winter winds for too cold, gales for too fierce, rain for too noisy... Now, in this pale, chilly Netherworld Courts, she immensely misses every second of the human world.
Her hand touches ghosts, reading their lifelong experiences rapidly, and in comparison to Farosa’s divine understanding, a human life is indeed condensed into a few lines of text easily read in a blink. Some died young due to accidents, some reached a dead end and committed suicide together, others succumbed to incurable disease, some died peacefully in a middle-class home...
"Not a single Witch." Farosa suddenly remarks.
"The souls of Witches are not governed by the Afterlife World, not even by the rules of this planet. When they die, it’s likely they return to the stars above." Cyber Specter mentions.
"Witches fall into maternity wards like meteors, and now I understand—indeed, they seize the opportunity for human reproduction, and for each baby occupied by a Witch, one less is reincarnated here. But Witches cannot reproduce; if they increase, the ghosts can only stare at each other in the Afterlife World, with no way forward." Farosa states.
"Then Witches truly are an ’alien, intrusive’ species." Wei Shiyue comments.
Her words may lack malice yet leave Farosa deeply offended.
Yes, Witches undoubtedly descended from the starry sky to this planet, but over so many years, they’ve interacted with human civilization, merging, battling, and cooperating, competing for space yet showing tolerance, putting aside prejudice. Yet to Wei Shiyue’s mouth, only a few words remain: alien, invasive species!
Farosa is satisfied, as she now consciously thinks through things from the overall perspective of a Witch. She cannot blame Wei Shiyue for venturing, nor should she respond from a personal standpoint; she must clarify everything.
"There’s no need to delineate so clearly; Witches did not volunteer to come here, so we can only try to find our greatest common interest. Today, everyone must admit: without Witches, this civilization could be much duller." Farosa chuckles lightly.
Wei Shiyue dares not face Farosa, but she thinks to herself only that she simply didn’t want to waste her breath. So she spreads her wings and advances, flying over the ghosts to scout in the mist ahead, examining briefly, then returns.
"There’s a dense mist ahead!" Wei Shiyue announces.
"Mist?" Farosa inquires curiously.
"A thick fog; in it, I saw many ghosts, potentially harmless." Wei Shiyue remarks.
"There’s no choice but to go forward now!" Hosoda Yoshiyuki shouts, "I also know there’s mist here; I’ve seen hundreds of bodies within it—just chilling, but it won’t truly harm us!"
