Chapter 1058: Chapter 828: Xu Yang and 3 D2
Xu Yang couldn’t stop thinking and analyzing the effects of these genetic mutation agents.
They could twist a person’s DNA into something else in mere seconds. Given time, things like zombie viruses and biochemical weapons might eventually be created.
He checked the news. Just this morning, Rose Medicine, Namisis Group, Five Continents Biotech, Jura Chemistry, Stag Medical Science, Ultimate Technology, Moral Pharmaceuticals, and Cutting-edge Tech Corporation jointly established the "Mutagen Ethics Committee."
Xu Yang was well aware that, unsurprisingly, while this organization appeared to explore the compliant use of mutation agents, it was actually setting an entry barrier.
Nestor Corporation still lacked the ability to manufacture them at present. If they wanted production licenses in the future, they would inevitably have to endure the committee’s scrutiny and conditions. Without these, they wouldn’t get a slice of the emerging market.
These corporate types... Xu Yang thought to himself. It seemed they truly wanted to push genetic mutation agents into the market. They’re completely unsafe—are the lives of ordinary people worth nothing to them? They’d stop at nothing to create profit opportunities.
On the one hand, Xu Yang wanted to ban these agents for safety reasons; on the other hand, he felt it might be wrong to destroy this delicate possibility.
To be honest, if substantial funds and testing were poured in, careful calibration of these mutation agents could possibly transform ordinary individuals into strong, attractive, and healthy "new humans."
Compared to expensive gene therapy, the directed mutations caused by mutation agents might actually be more cost-effective.
Xu Yang didn’t take the Divine Radiance. He walked out of the forest, heading toward the spot where he had earlier hung his jacket, retrieving it from the branch.
Li Xiaomin suddenly called.
"Senior!" Li Xiaomin’s voice sounded a bit worried.
"What’s wrong? How have you been lately?" Xu Yang kept walking, moving gradually from the edge of the forest toward the highway in the suburbs of Shangjing.
"Thanks to you, life’s been great these past few years. Rosya is pregnant with our second child and due very soon." Li Xiaomin spoke, barely containing his joy over marriage and family life.
"Well congratulations! That counts as a happy family, doesn’t it?" Xu Yang couldn’t help but nod in approval.
The couple’s life was going well. Li Xiaomin had driven trucks for Nestor Corporation for years and now served as a logistics department supervisor, managing his own fleet. Rosya had taken over a site once run by Burrito Big Hat and turned it into a thriving fast-food restaurant.
"But Senior, have you heard about the ’Hollow Infant’ incident?" Li Xiaomin asked anxiously.
"Not yet. What is it?" Xu Yang was puzzled.
"You can only understand if you come to the Rose Medical Center in Shangjing yourself—it’s too bizarre. Senior, I’m not trying to trouble you, but I truly don’t know who else could resolve something so terrifying." Li Xiaomin sighed.
Hollow Infant? An empty, hollow baby? Xu Yang couldn’t make sense of it, but he agreed anyway.
"Alright, I’ll head over tonight." Xu Yang said.
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" Li Xiaomin thanked him repeatedly.
Carrying a mix of emotions, Xu Yang returned to Shangjing, strolling through the streets.
The city was covered by intersecting, multi-layered elevated tracks. From top to bottom: the highest layer held shuttle machine routes and soaring light rail lines; the middle layer consisted of transparent glass walkways; below that were expressways and bullet train tracks; and at the lowest level was the traditional "pedestrian street" in its old-fashioned sense.
He exhaled deeply as if trying to dispel stress, looking upward. The sky was obscured by overlapping transportation structures, leaving only fragmented glimpses of blue.
On every street corner, massive screens and holographic ads displayed "Magnetic Flux Drive," "Time Boundary Line," and "Rhythm Pulse," all advertising subjective time-modifying implants that had recently gained commercial production approval. They would soon be sold in various Prosthesis Doctor clinics.
Subjective time-modifying implants were booming; they were poised to transform combat and complex machine operations, Xu Yang thought. With these implants, anyone could carry out an abundance of actions in an extremely short amount of subjective time.
When driving, slowing down subjective time would make vehicle handling smoother, allowing drivers to navigate heavy traffic effortlessly.
In gunfights, it could enable "bullet time," letting users more easily handle dangerous situations.
But what captured Xu Yang’s attention the most wasn’t these tech ads; it was the sheer number of D2s.
D2s were everywhere now!
Robots of all shapes and sizes roamed the streets, but D2 units stood out among them. People walked alongside D2s, navigating neon-lit holographic ads and vibrant storefronts.
D2s were astonishingly lifelike, serving as assistants, consultants, teachers, and even romantic partners. While others might not recognize them, Xu Yang could identify D2s through mobile network access points.
The emotional support and physical companionship provided by D2s were overwhelmingly strong, and Nestor Corporation’s accompanying marketing outreach was flawless.
For those seeking pure love, you could buy a wedding dress and ring for your D2 and hold an online wedding. For more explicit desires, some would hack D2s for direct O services, essentially freeloading. Others would even hijack someone else’s D2, turning its loyalty toward themselves.
However, Xu Yang had an anti-breach program installed. In cases of violent hacking attempts, D2s would do everything they could to attempt self-rescue; most would appear accommodating, only to later escape to Nestor Corporation’s designated territory points.
There were also financially constrained folks who would co-rent D2s or hire public D2s for home visits, charging by the day. Every street now featured D2 service stations, making them a new hallmark of the cityscape.
In certain areas, people’s first thoughts were always about where D2 services were available.
"I was programmed just to satisfy you, so tell me—what do you want me to do..."
