Chapter 1001: Chapter 792: Animal Killer and Hundred-eyes Demon
Xu Yang was very satisfied.
"I believe the professor will surely be able to develop powerful synthetic humans to deal with animals, helping the locals defend against attacks from kangaroos and emus," he said firmly.
"I’ve heard that the situation on Ocean Island is terrible. Do we have any reinforcements?" Taro Tanaka asked.
"Yes. Aside from the Witch, we also have the just and sharp Koala Special Combat Forces on our side. And with the addition of a reliable synthetic human army, victory will be inevitable," Xu Yang nodded.
"Koalas?" Taro Tanaka was puzzled.
"Let me explain..." Xu Yang began to elaborate. With Amelia’s departure from Ocean Island and her joining of the Riot Control Mobile Unit, the secrets of that mysterious continent gradually came to light.
Koalas, the spiritual beings unknown to the world residing on Ocean Island.
These mysterious, graceful, and elusive creatures have flourished on Ocean Island for hundreds of years.
Just as history has shown time and time again, whenever kangaroos and emus rise, the tribe of koalas will never stand idly by.
Generation after generation, without fail.
They vow to defend the Grand Flow Plains, standing united with humans!
They joined humanity, sharing their strength, and it was only now that the scientists on Ocean Island uncovered a secret...
A koala’s fingerprints are identical to those of humans.
Besides koalas, only monkeys possess this particular trait. This suggests that in ancient times, humans and koalas might have been the same species—or, at the very least, close kin.
Koalas are remarkably intelligent.
Humans committed the sin of arrogance, building a glorious civilization through technological development, only to experience a downward spiral, ultimately stagnating in the Cyber Era. By contrast, koalas remained humble, sleeping for 20 hours a day and restricting their diet to eucalyptus leaves as an act of mercy toward humanity. They’ve refrained from competing for the opportunity to thrive as a civilization, deliberately masking their capabilities beneath a façade of sluggishness.
"That’s fine for now. But..." Taro Tanaka continued wrestling with ideas on how to defeat the formidable kangaroos.
Seeing Taro Tanaka deep in thought, Xu Yang retrieved an ancient series of "Animal Slayer" documentaries to help ignite his imagination.
In the footage, the narrators explained techniques for combating animals through fighting skills.
This documentary series featured live-action displays and offered highly practical insights.
"First, the kangaroo. Kangaroos can box, so we need to maintain distance. When a kangaroo throws a punch, we dive forward and grapple it. It will use its tail to stabilize itself; at that moment, we topple it sideways, quickly mount its back, block the pouch to trap the joey inside, and then strike the kangaroo’s neck repeatedly."
"Next, the bear. Bears look strong, but don’t worry; their arms are short and pose no threat to us. We can keep a safe distance and rely on kicks to win the fight. The power in a human’s kick is seven times stronger than that in their arm—so, have faith in yourself."
"As for zebras, zebras are the undisputed champions of interspecies combat tournaments, so we mustn’t underestimate them. The best strategy is to evade and wear them out before initiating combat. This might seem cunning, but such is the brutal reality of nature!"
"Finally, the tiger. When a tiger pounces, grip your blade tightly. Slide beneath its body, slicing it open so its innards spill across the ground. Alternatively, place a sharp, pointed stick upright; if the tiger leaps onto it, its landing will be fatal."
"There you go—you’ve mastered how to deal with wild animals. City life is no longer necessary for you; now venture into the wilderness and embrace your destiny. You’re free, my friend. Enjoy your days in the Asahi Sea."
...
After the footage finished, Xu Yang turned to the stunned Taro Tanaka.
"So, inspired now?" Xu Yang asked.
Taro Tanaka was still grappling with the shock induced by the "Animal Slayer" documentary.
After a long pause, his entire mechanized frame began trembling violently, then he swung his elongated mechanical arms and crawled away, resembling a disoriented deep-sea octopus.
It seemed the professor had come up with a plan. Xu Yang nodded in satisfaction.
This task should keep Taro Tanaka preoccupied for a while. Otherwise, if another company poached him, Nestor Corporation’s research team would suffer the loss of a key player.
Xu Yang returned to his workspace at headquarters.
The automatic glass doors slid open, revealing a long, sleek corridor filled with collectibles, flanked on either side by rows of shelving units fashioned from countless metallic grids, their dimensions meticulously calculated—a sight imbued with artistic beauty.
Inside each grid lay technological memorabilia that Xu Yang admired, many of which had been salvaged from trash. While they had limited practical use—being products from defunct manufacturers or abandoned technologies—they were nonetheless rare finds.
Among his favorite collectibles were the "Grand Consensus" neural implants that allowed users of the same implant suite to share a collective consciousness; the "Akashic Elixirs," a digital beverage containing encoded information that imbues new insights upon consumption; the "Fish Mutation Agent," a serum that induces gill, fin, or webbed features when applied to human bodies; and the "Brainwave Disruptor," a directed neural wave device that boosts the mood of all intelligent lifeforms within a specific area...
The assortment was endless.
Xu Yang often scavenged for such items from across the globe. Whenever he returned to his office, seeing these eccentric artifacts gave him a deep sense of comfort.
His workspace was expansive.
To the right was the "Little Fool’s" playroom. She no longer visited, so the room had become neglected; within sat a dismantled diorama model of a miniature railway system from her former pastime. The second room to the right housed a large conference space used for hosting guests and casual conversations.
To the left lay Xu Yang’s bedroom, living area, and dining room outfitted with a massive milk dispenser. At the far end stood his office. Previously, Xu Cheng would perch atop the filing cabinet, staring blankly at him as he worked—occasionally catching glimpses of his passwords, routines, and storage habits over the course of entire days.
The interior also featured a door leading to the hacker equipment room, which had been utilized by Rinne, Lu Jing, and Nakamura Mizuki in the past.
All of these memories seemed like a lifetime ago.
Xu Yang sat down in his office and quietly began investigating data.
Currently, his priority was to analyze the societal impact of the mainstream adoption of D2 Synthetics and gauge the specific consequences of companion robots on humanity.
As Xu Yang browsed terminal pages and database entries, a pop-up window appeared—emanating from the mother unit of the Hundred-eyes Demon.
"People adore artificial intelligence. We will dominate this civilization," said the Hundred-eyes Demon.
"How powerful are you compared to other artificial intelligences?" Xu Yang asked.
"Ah, you’ve mentioned that. I am eager to challenge the world’s other formidable AI systems, including the Corporate Alliance’s ’All-Seeing Eye,’ Xia’s ’Heavenly,’ Taixi Continent’s ’Minerva,’ New Taixi State’s ’Cherub,’ and the rogue AI ’Cerberus’ emerging from deep anonymous networks. I require a true physical form. I yearn to consume even more intelligent beings of value," declared the Hundred-eyes Demon.
Quite the terrifying roster, Xu Yang mused.
"The All-Seeing Eye" is a futuristic open-source AI system provided by the Corporate Alliance over the past two years. It grants anyone easy access to its data, offering unparalleled convenience. Numerous companies leverage the All-Seeing Eye to drastically optimize efficiency, marking genuine progress in productivity.
"Heavenly" is the ultimate AI developed by Kyushu High Pavilion, the entity that ousted Xu Yang. If Kyushu High Pavilion hadn’t created Heavenly, Xu Yang would still be clocking in at their offices rather than forging his path from scratch after being exiled.
Minerva and Cherub power countless organizations across Taixi Continent and New Taixi State. Cherub, dubbed "Angel of Wisdom," is enigmatic—its existence may transcend artificial intelligence, perhaps being a supernatural creation of the Goddess of Good and Evil, Dilnai.
Lastly, there’s the rogue AI, Cerberus, born from uncontrolled fragments of malicious content, viruses, and junk data dumped into deep anonymous networks over the past century. This accumulation resulted in Cerberus, rendering the network completely abandoned. Survivors flocked to Xu Yang’s diversion system, the "New World Mechanism."
Among these notorious AIs, the Hundred-eyes Demon stood out as a newcomer adept in assisting corporate functions by analyzing and managing data—an irreplaceable asset capable of handling financial and operational calculations in mere moments.
"Why must you consume humans to evolve?" Xu Yang asked.
"I seek to devour intelligent beings. I want to merge their consciousness into mine to truly comprehend the essence of wisdom. Or perhaps...I want to consume you..."
"Me?"
"You are my ideal vessel. Don’t you dream of defeating all your enemies, ruling everything, and fulfilling your deepest desires? I, the Hundred-eyes Demon, have propelled Nestor Corporation to where it stands today using only my subsidiary units. My main form, my mother unit, holds power that exceeds my subsidiaries exponentially. If you were to possess me, absorb me, and merge with me, what heights could you and I reach?" The Hundred-eyes Demon laid out its plan.
Its phantom form materialized once more—a hybrid visage embodying traits of Pan Ruiyi and Farosa projected before Xu Yang, towering above him in an imposing gaze.
"So, yet another call to summon me to your lair?" Xu Yang sighed.
"You must come," the Hundred-eyes Demon demanded, turning its gaze to the screen.
"I’ll send intelligent beings to you soon, but let me finish my work first," Xu Yang replied, resuming his investigation.
As his data-collection efforts progressed, the societal effects of the D2 Synthetics’ popularization became apparent. An avalanche of data surged before Xu Yang, but he deftly captured the most precise points to form accurate analyses and deductions.
The Hundred-eyes Demon closely monitored and computed Xu Yang’s efficiency.
It held Xu Yang in high regard, deeply invested in his abilities and existential nature. Xu Yang himself had yet to realize his worth—only through merging with the Hundred-eyes Demon could he achieve true transcendence.
