Chapter 976: Chapter 973 I’ll Take Care of You
Yan Bo hugged her tighter for a moment, and kissed her by the ear, before at last cheerfully letting go of her and helping her to stand by leaning against his chest.
Tong Xiaohua’s face turned as red as a steamed crab, and without giving him a single glance, she scurried towards the toilet.
Hearing the "bang" of the toilet door closing, Yan Bo’s gaze drifted downwards, and he let out a bitter laugh to himself.
Shouldn’t I be the one running off to the toilet?
Yan Bo laid on the cold floor for a while longer, feeling no sign of the heat on his body diminishing at all.
With no other option, he propped himself up off the floor and walked toward the bedroom.
In the toilet, the faucet poured down cold water steadily, as Tong Xiaohua splashed her face repeatedly with the cold water until the burning sensation subsided somewhat. Standing up, she stared at the frantic look of the person in the mirror before slowly making her way out to sit down on the sofa.
Once Yan Bo had managed to take care of his problem, he pushed the door open and immediately saw Tong Xiaohua with water beads dripping down from her head and face, as she sat on the sofa in a daze, seemingly lost in thought.
Seeing her forlorn appearance, his heart clenched, and he hurried back to the bedroom to get a clean towel to drape over her head.
"Silly girl, what’s wrong with you?" He gently wiped the water drops off her face, then rubbed her damp hair.
Apparently, he must have scared her.
"I’m sorry..." Yan Bo gently cradled her face and kissed her cool lips.
Tong Xiaohua’s bewildered gaze fixed on his face, and as she recalled the strange sensation of lying on top of him, just as her face, cooled by the water, was returning to normal, it flushed with heat again.
Yan Bo shook his head helplessly, not wanting to frighten her again, and quickly stood up, putting some distance between them.
"Silly girl... it was just an instinctive reaction, I wouldn’t really do anything to you!"
He couldn’t suppress his physical instincts, but his rationality was certainly able to control his actions.
Tong Xiaohua bit her lip and looked up at him, her large, limpid eyes as if trying to see right into Yan Bo’s soul.
Yan Bo didn’t try to defend himself further; after touching her hair and feeling it was somewhat dry, he took the towel and tossed it into the laundry basket in the toilet.
"Have you had breakfast?"
Going by the time, she probably got up early and rushed over here, likely not having had the chance for breakfast yet.
Sure enough, Tong Xiaohua shook her head.
Yan Bo walked straight to the kitchen, "Take a walk around for a bit, I’ll see what I can whip up."
Yan Bo spoke like this because he wasn’t skilled in cooking, and in his residence, there usually wasn’t even instant noodles available, so he could only hope to find something like frozen dumplings in the refrigerator left there by Aunt Mo Xin.
In the freezer compartment of the refrigerator, there indeed was a bag of frozen dumplings, with chicken and mushroom filling—a flavor both he and Tong Xiaohua enjoyed.
He took the frozen dumplings and read the instructions carefully. He filled half a pot with water and turned on the stove to start boiling it.
Tong Xiaohua, having sat outside for who knows how long, finally came back to her senses. Hearing clattering sounds from the kitchen, she stood up and walked over.
Inside the kitchen, Yan Bo opened the lid of the pot, saw that the water was boiling, cut open the dumpling package, and was about to put the dumplings into the boiling water when he heard footsteps and turned his head slightly with a smile at her.
"There’s only frozen dumplings in the fridge, is that alright?"
Tong Xiaohua nodded gently, "It’s fine, I’m not picky..."
As she spoke, she stepped closer to his side, peering in as Yan Bo deftly dropped the dumplings into the pot.
"You eat these for breakfast every day?" Tong Xiaohua looked curiously into the pot, trying to make conversation.
After all, the situation just now was actually quite awkward.
Of course, someone with more experience might have easily known how to dispel such awkwardness. But Tong Xiaohua had no experience whatsoever with matters between men and women.
As a result, she could only flee with her face flushed and ears burning.
He had just called her silly, saying he wouldn’t do anything to her.
Actually, she believed him!
Because she trusted him, that’s why, when she learned that his company had run into trouble, she immediately thought of the large sum of money she had never used.
According to her father, that money was for life-saving in times of crisis.
And Yan Bo’s current situation, in her view, was pretty much like saving a life.
Yan Bo looked down at her curious baby expression and felt an unbearable itch in his heart.
He really wanted to bite her hard, but remembering how frightened she had been just before, he dared not act rashly.
He forced down the restlessness in his heart, "Not really, my usual breakfast is brought back by Di Xu or Miss Guo, these frozen dumplings were bought by Aunt Xin to be my midnight snack."
Tong Xiaohua gave a sound of understanding and watched the dumplings in the pot sinking without resurfacing for a long time.
"Don’t they need to be stirred? Won’t they stick to the pot?"
Yan Bo was just as clueless about kitchen affairs as Tong Xiaohua. He looked at the pot and then at the instructions on the packaging, unsurely saying, "They shouldn’t need to be, it doesn’t say so here."
Tong Xiaohua turned her gaze to his face, scrutinizing it for a while, and suddenly she chuckled.
Yan Bo was puzzled by her laughter and instinctively raised his hand to touch his face.
"What are you laughing at? Is my face dirty?"
Tong Xiaohua shook her head, "No..."
"Then what is it?"
Tong Xiaohua glanced again at the dumplings in the pot, her lips couldn’t help but curl up slightly, "You say we’re like fools the moment we step into the kitchen, if we live together in the future, will we starve to death?"
Yan Bo pretended to ponder deeply before smiling and asking her.
"Maybe we really will, would you be willing to starve with me? Maybe, even starve to death together?"
Tong Xiaohua gave him a glare, huffed, and walked out.
Yan Bo watched the dumplings float up one by one in the boiling water, about to call Tong Xiaohua back to see, when he heard her say from outside, "If you really become so poor that you can’t even afford a nanny, I’ll support you!"
Yan Bo imagined she must have been blushing when she said that, feeling sweet inside his heart. He took out the couple bowls he had bought last time from the kitchen cabinet, scooped the dumplings into a bowl, and carried the tray to the dining room.
Tong Xiaohua followed him into the room, plopping down like a little miss waiting to be served, and watched with downcast eyes as Yan Bo served the dumplings to her.
"Where’s the vinegar? What about the chili sauce?"
She deliberately put on an arrogant air, but Yan Bo was not angered. He indulged her by kissing her face, "I’ll go get them for you!"
Tong Xiaohua sat contentedly in the dining room, sipping the soup first, and heard Yan Bo calling out from the kitchen.
