Chapter 434: The Childlike Flame Young Master
Chapter 434: Chapter 434: The Childlike Flame Young Master
"Big brother, look, their horns are moving..."
A young man named Yan walked from the inside of the house to the outside upon hearing the voice of Qin Xiu’s daughter. He followed the voice to its source.
Eventually, he spotted three brats under the grapevine in the backyard.
If this had happened before, Yan wouldn’t have bothered to show any curiosity or interest in what the kids were playing or watching. He would have considered it a waste of time.
But now, slowly but surely, under the influence of his baby boy and Zhu Qianying, he unknowingly reconnected with his inner child.
Like now, after he had determined the location of the kids, he didn’t make it apparent. Instead, he tiptoed quietly following the children’s chatter.
Coming closer, he saw the three kids squatting on the grass under the grapevine, huddled in a circle and chatting exuberantly.
A stooping Yan took a closer look only to find a snail crawling among the grass blades, its two tentacles probing left and right. The way it shrank in response to any stimulus was amusing enough to keep the kids in fits of giggles.
His baby boy was lightly touching the hard shell of the snail with a long blade of grass. "Hehe, its tentacles look like the antennae aliens use to receive signals."
Yan had always considered creatures like snails disgusting, and he kept a respectful distance from them. He certainly never approached them deliberately to observe.
But now, he was standing quietly behind his son, listening to the little boy schooling his younger brother and sister in scientific facts that even Yan himself wasn’t aware of.
"Brother, I can see its mouth moving, is it having lunch?" Qin Xiu’s daughter pointed at the region below the snail’s tentacles with a blade of grass.
"Sister, but it doesn’t have teeth, right?" Qin Xiu’s son, who was just over two years old and had a round, simple face unlike his cunning father, asked.
"Little brother, little sister, snails do have teeth! Moreover, they have the most teeth of any animal in the world. Although its mouth is about the size of the needle tip mother uses to mend my clothes, it has more than 26000 teeth. Look, right between the snail’s small tentacles there is a little hole, that’s its mouth and inside there’s a toothed tongue. Scientists call the snail’s tongue a ’Radula’."
All this information that his son shared with his siblings was not only new to them but also to Yan as it was his first time hearing about it.
In fact, he was not very clear about his thoughts and actions from two or three years ago, but he had always believed that he was different from the other kids and was not likely to show interest in small animals like ants and snails.
Yet now, witnessing his son’s curiosity and interest in everything around him, he couldn’t be so sure.
He wondered if, as a kid, he never had a curious heart for the small animals around him, he would probably have been a very boring and old-fashioned little boy.
With that thought, he decided to ask his parents about his childhood behavior when he got home.
"Wow, with so many teeth, it must be a big eater, right?"
"Then, would it become a fatso?"
"If it gets fat, can it still fit into this little house?"
Listening to the kids’ conversation, Yan couldn’t help but laugh quietly.
The children all turned their heads towards him, and Qin Xiu’s two children chirped, "Hello, uncle Yan!"
"Hello, baby girl and baby boy!"
Seeing Yan, his son said nothing but stood up. Yan was worried that the kid might still be mad at him and was about to apologize when his son walked up behind him, climbed onto his back, wrapped his arms around Yan’s neck, looking really affectionate.
"Daddy, baby boy is so tired..." Yan’s heart melted at the soft voice.
Sure enough, this kid was so carefree, his temper as fleeting as it was fierce. He had already forgotten about his disagreement with his dad.
Yan patted his son lightly on his bottom, "Shall we go inside the house and play? Aunt Shan has prepared lots of snacks for you."
The little boy answered humbly, pointing at the snail, "Daddy, can the baby boy keep this snail as a pet?"
In the past, Yan would have refused outright.
Why keep a disgusting snail of all things as a pet?
But now, he didn’t find anything wrong with it. He cheerfully agreed, picked a leaf from the grass, put the snail on it, and handed it back to his son.
"Here."
His son carefully wrapped the snail in the leaf. Yan reached out with both hands and swiftly picked up Qin Xiu’s son and daughter.
"Alright, let’s go inside and find some delicious food!"
And so, a few minutes later, a few people inside the house watched as Yan walked in from outside, carrying two children in his arms and one on his back. He looked exactly like a king of the children.
Everyone but Zhu Qianying was so surprised they were speechless.
"Mommy, I wanna keep a snail as a pet!"
The first to find his voice was baby boy, startling everyone else into awareness.
Zhu Qianying, who acted as if nothing unusual had happened, smiled at her son and replied, "Sure, go ahead!"
"Baby girl, baby boy, come here, daddy’s got you!"
Having come back to his senses, Qin Xiu rushed over and took his children from Yan’s arms.
"Sir, I hope my kids didn’t tire you out?" Qin Xiu apologized with a smile at Yan.
He was afraid that Yan was still angry and that his children’s antics would deepen the trouble.
The potential consequences didn’t bear thinking about!
"No worries, how much could two kids possibly weigh!"
Yan didn’t seem resentful at all. On the contrary, there was a gentle smile on his face, his previous anger was nowhere to be seen, having dissolved completely in his time spent observing the snail with the children.
With his children in his arms, Qin Xiu anxiously returned to the living room, only to glance back at Yan again.
Yan was now completely focused on the little monkey on his back, however.
"Qin Xiu, go find a small glass jar."
It took Qin Xiu a moment to realize, "Sir, what do you need a glass jar for? To keep a goldfish?"
But that could not be it. Yan had a big fish pond outside his villa, and a beautiful tropical fish tank inside. The glass jar was too shabby for his liking.
"For the snail!"
Yan’s words left both Qin Xiu and Ke Kai dazed, with their jaws nearly dropping to the floor.
They exchanged astonished glances before Qin Xiu finally reacted and hurried to the storage room. A few minutes later, he returned covered in dust carrying a glass vase.
"Sir, can we use this one?"
Yan, of course, had no idea if it would suffice. So, he gently patted the little boy’s bottom and softly asked him.
"Baby, do you think this vase will do?"
Baby boy took a look at the vase and nodded his head, "It should be fine, I guess. Let’s put the snail in there for now!"
Qin Xiu was almost in tears. Oh dear Young Master, do you have any idea that this vase is worth a few thousand Yuan and you say it should be fine!
