Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Just Friends with Her (Fifth Update)

"Of course! Little buddy, do you want to see it?" Yan Bo’s voice echoed, filling with an unusual warmth compared to his usual calm demeanor.

"Yes, yes! Grandpa, are you inviting me to go see it?" the little boy responded excitedly.

However, Yan Han felt a slight pinch of heartache and regret.

If he and Zhu Qianying had managed to stay together and live a normal life, their son could have spent these years constantly around them. They could take him to see dolphins on a yacht, or even go see the moon on a spaceship. As long as there were tickets available at the Space Headquarters, Yan Han could have made all these happen.

Of course, he did not presume that his son had been living miserably with Zhu Qianying these past years.

But to acknowledge that he, as a father, could have given his son a better life had he not made those mistakes, and to lose the opportunity to provide for his son, it broke his heart.

"Definitely, little buddy! You can go see them as many times as you want, even every day!" The words rolled off Yan Bo’s tongue.

Hearing his father’s promise, Yan Han barely smiled, since when had his father become so indulgent?

Was it true what they say about grandparent’s affection being deeper than parents?

"Mom, Dad, did you sleep well last night?"

After exchanging greetings with his parents, Yan Han reached out, intending to hold his son.

However, the little boy moved deftly behind Yan Han’s mother. Clearly, he was no longer comfortable with Yan Han holding him.

The boy was very clear about who he liked and who he didn’t. He solely blamed Yi Wei’s incident on Yan Han, and held no grudges against his Uncle Hai or Yan Bo.

His personality was strikingly similar to Zhu Qianying’s.

"Of course, we slept well. With my little darling by my side, how could we not?" Yan Han’s mother boasted or maybe she was just speaking the truth. Regardless, those words nearly brought tears to Yan Han’s eyes right there at the foot of the staircase.

"Mom, should we go home now?"

The Ji family were all very welcoming, but Yan Han didn’t want to overstay their hospitality. Besides, there was some business that could be best taken care at home.

Such as the misunderstandings and friction between him and his son, which required time and mutual understanding to be resolved.

Through these years, without even realizing it, Yan Han had changed quite a bit.

If it were five years ago, having a stubborn and mischievous child like Xiao Han would have driven him mad.

Now, however, he could tolerate being ignored by his son to such an extent, rushing over here late at night to take him home without uttering a single word in protest.

Yan Han’s mother understood her son’s anguish and she also didn’t want to impose on the Ji family.

Therefore, while they were still in bed, she attempted to communicate with the little boy and coax him into going home.

To her surprise, the little boy shook his head vigorously.

"No. I promised Beibei and Guoguo that we would go to the zoo together on Saturday."

Today was only Tuesday; Saturday was still four days away.

She tried, "How about this, grandpa and grandma will accompany you here on Saturday, and we can go to the zoo together?"

The boy gave it some thought but did not provide a definitive answer to Yan Han’s mother.

"Grandma, I need to ask Beibei and Guoguo first."

While Yan Han’s mother wanted to bring Xiao Han home right away, seeing her grandson’s persistence, she could not bear to push him further.

Since she could not convince her grandson, all she could do was to break the dreary news to her son.

"Your son has made plans with his siblings to go to the zoo on Saturday..."

While Yan Han was disappointed, he was powerless to change anything. He resigned himself to the situation, "Well, mom and dad, why don’t you stay with Xiao Han for a bit. I’ll head back after breakfast."

Ji Huan and Xiao Yu had planned to stay and entertain the guests, but they had to leave because of some urgent matters. The only people left in the Ji’s residence were the Yan family of four and a nanny, busily preparing breakfast for them.

Despite Xiao Han’s hesitation, Yan Han pulled a chair and lifted Xiao Han onto it.

"Little boy, Daddy has something to tell you."

He sat down next to Xiao Han, deciding to ignore whether his parents were present or not.

Xiao Han maintained his usual demeanor, ignoring his father completely.

Or perhaps returning to the initial attitude of resentment and avoidance when he first met his father.

Yan Han had grown accustomed to receiving no response at all from his son. Seeing Xiao Han silently pick up a bun, he helped peel off the paper lining and handed it to him.

"Little boy, Daddy and Wei sister are just friends, nothing more. Don’t overthink it."

He should have said these words to Zhu Qianying five years ago.

Unfortunately, he said nothing back then, and it cost him five years of happiness.

That’s why he refused to repeat the same mistakes and let a similar situation happen again.

Xiao Han remained silent, quietly nibbling on his bun with his eyes downcast.

Due to Yan Han’s appearance, he didn’t even feel like talking to Yan Bo anymore.

Because the old jerk brought up Yi Wei, and because of Yi Wei, Xiao Han thought of his mommy.

The more he thought about it, the harder it became to swallow the bun in his mouth.

Yan Han’s mother, being a woman, was more attuned to the subtleties. Seeing Xiao Han slowing down, she guessed that he was probably very upset with Yi Wei.

"Xiao Han, let’s have breakfast first. It’s irrelevant to mention her."

Yan Han’s mother used to have a good impression of Yi Wei, but now, she found it hard to harbor any positive feelings towards her.

Not only because of Zhu Qianying, but she also felt that Yi Wei had changed too much from the past. Yi Wei used to be a bit wilful, but the rest was fine.

However, in recent years, Yan Han’s mother even felt that Yi Wei had become increasingly unreasonable.

She couldn’t pinpoint the exact reasons behind that feeling.

Although Yi Wei had always been extremely respectful and attentive to her, both then and now; still, she felt something was off.

Yan Han understood, "Alright, we won’t talk about her anymore. Little boy, what else would you like to eat? Daddy will get it for you."

Xiao Han paid him no mind, silently picking up a spoon to sip his porridge.

From the beginning to the end of breakfast, Xiao Han did not acknowledge his father once.

Even when Yan Han was leaving, he gave Xiao Han a goodbye, but the little boy acted as if he hadn’t heard, and turned to run into the playroom to play.

Yan Han was incredibly embarrassed, but could not bring himself to scold Xiao Han.

First, because Xiao Han was his son.

Second, it was he who had upset his son first, and therefore could not blame him for ignoring him.

"Let’s go, let’s go. Your father and I will try to coax him to come home as soon as possible. However, be prepared. This is going to be a long battle."

What Yan Han’s mother referred to as a ’long battle’ was not limited to the Yi Wei incident.

Actually, Yi Wei was just the spark that set things off.

Yan Han’s mother saw it clearly that even if Yi Wei hadn’t appeared yesterday, Xiao Han’s hostility and attitude towards his father would not have improved much.

"Alright, then I’ll leave first."

But after waving goodbye to his parents, Yan Han did not rush to the airport as expected. Instead, he went straight to the Ji Group.
