Chapter 1055: Chapter 1052: Xiao Lizi and Baby Boy. Side Story (13)

Although Bai Lu was very resolute in her belief that she and Yan Xu could always overcome his memory loss, that even if he couldn’t remember, she could still become good friends with him again.

But her firmness had its principles.

Her personality and upbringing determined that she wouldn’t shamelessly pester and cling to someone relentlessly.

So, when Yan Xu and his parents got into the bulletproof car sent by the military and invited her to join them, she insisted on driving there herself.

She set her navigation to the address given by Zhu Qianying and sent a message on WeChat to let Zhu Qianying know that she was going to buy some daily necessities and might be delayed by about ten minutes.

Zhu Qianying quickly sent back a voice message, "How about I go with you in one car, and I can accompany you to shop later?"

"No need, you should stay with Uncle Yan and keep baby boy company. I can handle this small matter myself."

Yan Xu had suffered such a serious injury, and upon returning to the Yan Family, the elders would probably hold some sort of ceremony to welcome him. Even if there was no ceremony, they would definitely want to ask some private questions or have a chat, and it was better for her, an outsider, to avoid such occasions.

It wasn’t that Bai Lu didn’t know how to handle these situations; it was just that she didn’t particularly like them.

Zhu Qianying replied with an ’okay,’ and left it at that.

After about half an hour of driving, a WeChat notification popped up. When the car stopped at a red light, Bai Lu picked up her phone to check it. It was a voice message from Zhu Qianying: "Xiao Lizi, what snacks do you want to eat? I will prepare some ingredients and make them for you when we get back."

Every time she finished eating Zhu Qianying’s cooking and snacks, Bai Lu would go for a while without wanting takeout.

However, Bai Lu was not that inconsiderate. Zhu Qianying’s visit was to take care of the injured Yan Xu, not her.

"Aunt Ying Zi, I’m on a diet recently, so please don’t tempt me to ’sin’ anymore."

As the traffic light turned green, Bai Lu put down her phone. The rest of the drive was smooth, and although her phone indicated incoming messages, Bai Lu couldn’t check it and her mind was preoccupied with other things, gradually forgetting about the chat.

It wasn’t until she parked her car in front of the supermarket and got out, habitually unlocking her phone, that she noticed not only had Zhu Qianying’s chat window popped up, but there was also a friend request.

The avatar was a gun and Bai Lu immediately confirmed the person was Yan Xu.

She then looked at the name, Yan.

Bai Lu had wanted to add this WeChat account when she saw the lucid Yan Xu, but sensing his coldness and caution, she dismissed the idea.

Now that Yan Xu was sending her a friend request, she didn’t need to think about it; Zhu Qianying must have pressured him.

Bai Lu hesitated for a moment but eventually accepted the request.

Indeed, after she accepted, the other party didn’t send any messages.

However, upon hearing that she was at the supermarket buying daily essentials, Zhu Qianying asked her to bring back a bouquet of flowers from the flower shop at the supermarket entrance.

It only took Bai Lu a few minutes to pick up a bag of daily essentials. Standing aimlessly in the flower shop, she dialed Zhu Qianying’s number, "Aunt Ying Zi, what kind of flowers do you want to buy?"

Luckily, Zhu Qianying didn’t make it difficult for her, "Buy a bunch of forget-me-nots, some pink and some purple, just let the shop assistant arrange them."

Bai Lu parked her car in the courtyard of the Yan Family, and the nanny came to help take her luggage inside, while she herself carried the daily necessities and a large bunch of forget-me-nots into the Yan Family house.

Although Bai Lu was quite familiar with Yan Han’s family, this was her first time visiting the old Yan Family mansion.

After all, the Yan Han family only returned for the New Year and other holidays, usually residing in L City.

This was her first visit here, however, she had met the owner of the place, Yan Yuan, several times before.

Bai Lu, like baby boy and Xiaolu, addressed Yan Yuan as "Grandpa," "Grandpa, sorry for the intrusion!"

"Xiao Lizi is here? Come over and have a seat!"

Yan Yuan was no longer young and had stepped back from the front lines several years ago, although he still held positions like an advisor. He spent most of his time recuperating at home and rarely made public appearances.

The person from the Yan Family now holding his mantle and occupying a high position was his son, who was also Yan Han’s cousin, Yan Xu’s cousin uncles.

Zhu Qianying and Yan Han settled Yan Xu in his room, and Bai Lu, the visitor, sat in the living room drinking tea.

Yan Yuan asked about her family’s situation and expressed concern for her work. Finally, he brought up Yan Xu.

"This boy has been relentless since he was little; it’s hard to say whether that’s good or bad."

For that comment, Bai Lu truly didn’t know how to respond.

As a member of the military, standing on the nation’s standpoint, being relentless was of course a good thing.

But from the standpoint of family and friends, being too relentless might not always be good.

And Yan Yuan, with his unique identity, could be said to be standing on the nation’s standpoint, but also representing the family’s.

Thus, Bai Lu could only choose a noncommittal response, "We must respect Yan Xu’s own wishes..."

What Yan Xu wished for, Bai Lu didn’t know, but she was aware that Yan Han and Zhu Qianying were very enlightened parents. They would support whatever choice their son liked.

Yan Yuan hummed in acknowledgment, "Based on the rehabilitation report sent from the hospital, the baby boy’s recovery seems to be quite promising,

"His Daddy and Mommy might not feel good about stopping him from anything, but as his Grandpa, I can’t bear to watch him treat his own life so recklessly. When he joined the military, it was his great-grandfather’s idea, and I too cast a supportive vote. But at that time, our initial intent was to get him a bit of training and then gild his path for future political endeavors. Never did I imagine he would stay for so many years, insisting on being on the front lines."

Listening to this, Bai Lu vaguely sensed that Yan Yuan had something important to say, and then she heard him continue, "This time, I actually want him to consider transferring to another line of work because of his injury..."

Yan Yuan said this and then stopped, tilting his head slightly as he looked at Bai Lu.

"But..."

Bai Lu knew that Yan Yuan’s intentions were for Yan Xu’s own good, but she still felt it was wrong.

Yan Yuan sighed deeply, cutting her off, "I regret it so much. I fear something might happen to the baby boy. His grandfather had waited until over sixty to finally have this precious grandson. If something happens to baby boy, how could I face his great-grandparents?"

"Grandpa, baby boy is now twenty-three years old, he has the capability and the right to choose his own lifestyle and direction. You mentioned those concerns, he must have considered them, but he still chooses to stay in the military, indicating he knows what’s most important to him."

Whether Yan Xu would choose the relatively safe option of returning home to take over the Yanhuang or continue staying in the military was, in Bai Lu’s view, entirely Yan Xu’s decision. As close relatives or friends, one can lay out the pros and cons for him, but should not directly make the decision for him under the guise of love.

As for why Yan Yuan was bypassing Yan Han and Zhu Qianying to talk to her about this matter, she was not oblivious to the reason.

"Grandpa, if I must take a side, I think, I will always stand by baby boy!"
