Chapter 53: 53: King Iroh

King’s Iroh’s pov (Sloan’s father)

"Your majesty, Prince Zade has woken up!" The guard announced and I moved, making my way to the kingdom’s infirmary at once.

Being informed that Zade had been unconscious and beaten to a pulp was so shocking and unexpected because he was such a strong fighter, and there was nothing we could do expect to wait till he’s awake to tell us who was the cause of it because for everyone’s privacy, there were no cameras in the rooms.

Once I stepped into the infirmary, Zade was laying in the bed and receiving a drip of medication, but he had a stormy look across his face. I stepped beside the bed and placed a hand on his shoulder.

I saw him as a son at this point, as the one I never had.

Zade was perfect. He was everything Sloan was supposed to be.

First, he wasn’t cursed.

Second, he listens without questions.

Third, he could easily charm everyone with a smile of his, and the kingdom loved him unlike Sloan, whom they’re all afraid of.

To top it all, Zade was ready to get married to the bride that arrived last night for Sloan, the same princess Sloan still refused to go welcome and have dinner with, despite me ordering him to.

He never listens. For someone who’s just about to clock eighteen, he challenges and speaks back at me without fear. It was irritating and undoubtedly worrying and I always wish I ended killing him when he was younger. The only reason I was still able to control him a little was by threatening to kill his mother and little sister, that’s only when I could get him to listen. Seems I’d have to threaten him again so he’d stop giving me problems and go ahead to marry the bride picked out for him.

"What happened, son? Who hurt you? Did someone break in?" I said to Zade who managed to sit up. His face was twisted in anger as he shook his head.

"It was Sloan." He revealed darkly and my mouth fell open from shock.

"What?!" I thundered, unable to believe my ears. I had warned him against fighting his cousins countless times. He knew that was non negotiable.

This stupid son of mine...

"He hurt me because of that human, the one who drank that poison instead of him, that you and grandfather said he was smitten with." He revealed and I was shocked, I couldn’t close my mouth.

The fuck?

"He did all this to you because of the human slave?" I managed to get out and Zade nodded. Rage filled my entire body at once and I saw red.

My intuitions were never wrong. Since the moment I heard this slave was sleeping in his bed, I had a feeling this wretched slave was gonna become a problem.

And clearly, I ended up being right.

When I left the infirmary, I was so angry that all I could see was red. I was gonna kill that slave myself, I’d snap his body into two.

I went all the way to Sloan’s wing and addressed the guards positioned at the entrance, asking them if they knew what that wretched slave looked like.

They all nodded at once.

"Good. Once he’s leaving this wing, grab him and bring him to me at once." I ordered before turning and heading for my own wing.

Without asking the slave any questions, I was just gonna tear his heart out. It was a human slave of all things.

Humans? Surely Sloan could do better than that!

When I got to my wing, I looked for my father and met him in the lounge, and as expected, a girl was between his legs, working him with her mouth. That was a usual sight seeing as enwulves had really high sex drives.

I stalked into the room and dropped into the cough across him, just as he finished with the slave and ordered her to leave. After he did his pants up, he leaned forward and regarded me.

"You’re angry." He stated and I bristled with so much anger at once.

"Of course I’m angry! Haven’t you heard? Sloan beat Zade up thoroughly because of that- that human slave! That same one that I told you was gonna be a problem for us." I shot out angrily, pointing at him.

I told him the slave was gonna get in the way of our plans, and that we should order for him to be killed in the slave quarters, but he said to leave Sloan be for the time being.

"Damn." My father finally said and I scoffed in irritation. He had a soft spot for Sloan, which irritated me. It would have been a big problem for me if that soft spot interfered with our plans, but it thankfully didn’t, so I’ve learned to ignore that.

"I’m gonna have the human slave killed today." I thundered but my father waved me off.

"There’s no need for that yet. I’m gonna use the kid to monitor Sloan for the time being so I’d know if the kid is his fated mate."

I stiffened, my eyes widening. "I- it couldn’t be..."

"I might have agreed with you before, but after you said Sloan beat up Zade because of this slave, he might truly be his fated mate. And you know what that means." My father explained and I turned his explanation around in my mind for a bit.

"I think you’re wrong though. His mate is said to be someone who’s gonna be very powerful... powerful enough to make the heavens fall..." I trailed off with a shrug.

"And not a mere human slave. If he had met his fated mate, we’d all undoubtedly feel it." I added.

My father had a thoughtful expression on for a bit before nodding. "You’re right."

Of course. I always am.

"This is why we need to get him married off fast so he can bond with the bride we have picked out for him. That way, after bonding with someone, he’d be unable to meet his fated mate anymore." I pointed out and my father nodded in agreement.

This task had been seeming impossible before, but now that he was smitten with a human slave, the task seemed like something that might never come to pass, and I wasn’t pleased at all.

Because that would ruin all our plans— plans of over a decade, involving strong forces from far and wild.

"This is partly your fault, you indulge him too much, which made him grow up believing he can always have his way." I pointed out as I glared at my father who rolled his eyes.

"I only support him over super chill and unproblematic things, and definitely not something like this that can jeopardize everything we’ve worked towards for over ten years. I know he must never find his fated mate and I was fully in on the plan from the onset. I just like to support him against you so he’d sometimes feel like he has someone on his side at least. That’s also a good thing in case he decides to confide in me about something very important that can help us out."

I grunted once my father finished. In a way, what he said made sense.

I leaned back in my seat and sighed, suddenly feeling drained.

"I’ll still see that human slave this evening, then I’ll have a few guards always watching him on moving forward."
