Chapter 36: map

The man scurried away in a rush, trying to get away from Grey, but Grey’s eyes had already locked on him. Grey lunged at the man and grabbed him.

He screamed, guttural screams. His party watched in horror, stunned and in shock at what was happening.

Grey bit into his neck, ripping it apart and drinking the blood from it completely. After having his fill, he threw the body aside and fell down unconscious.

"He’ll be fine now," Lucy said.

"That’s good. Now the others, what do we do with them?" Zane spoke. Shivers ran down the spines of the adventurers, fear filled their eyes.

"They were my meal before you guys came along," Ava said.

"Let’s not kill them, they haven’t done anything," Zane said.

"Every being is born with crime, even if they haven’t committed it, it doesn’t make them anything less guilty, so no need for your conscience to prick you," Ava said.

"It’s not about my conscience, their life is worthless to me. But I believe someone should at least do something wrong to die.

Either way, it doesn’t matter to me, you can kill them," Zane said, waving his hands.

"Fine, I’ll not kill them, but you owe me for that," she said with a smile.

"Whatever, as long as it’s nothing outlandish," Zane said.

"Fine, I’ll try my best," she said. She looked at the humans, who stared at her with disbelief in their eyes, their party member that they had gone on missions with was not really someone they knew.

She saw the looks inside their eyes but she couldn’t care less. "Are you going to leave them with the memories of everything that they have seen?" she asked.

"No, Lucy will take care of them. Then you can drop them wherever in the forest. I want to go have a talk with that baron," Zane said and walked to the carriage. He stepped in and saw the baron with his head buried in his legs.

He looked up when he noticed someone was here. He had peeped out and seen all that was going on, and now fear had entirely gripped him.

"I knew you were out to kill me, I knew it," he said, pointing at him. Zane shook his head, "I had no initial plan to kill you, but then I got a mission, so that’s that," Zane said. The man was about to speak, but he pulled out his dagger and stabbed through the heart before he could react, allowing his body to fall to the ground and bleed out.

[Special Quest complete]

[Reward: one of three pieces of an ancient ruins map]

Zane looked at the screen as the reward came in. He saw what it was and his eyes lit up, but as he read what was under it, his expression went sour.

[A map that led to an ancient city was split into three parts. Only by combining all three parts can you find the ruins.]

Zane let out a frustrated sigh. He knew this type of map, they were common in the game. The reward for finding the ruins was great, but it was the finding of the maps that was an issue.

It was almost impossible for him to get the remaining parts of the map through quests because they would have already been given to another player, so he would have to find that player and take it from them.

The only good part was that the map would react if you were in the same city as the person that had the other part.

Zane took the map out of his inventory. The edges were jagged, meaning it had been torn. He let out another sigh and placed it back before dragging the body of the baron and tossing it outside.

Ava and Lucy saw the body, but they didn’t react. Zane jumped down, looked at them, and flashed a cheeky smile.

Grey had returned back to normal, but he was completely naked. Riven looked back into the carriage and spotted some bags kept there. He opened one and it had some clothes that belonged to the adventurers. After taking a black shift that loosely hung on his body, he got some trousers and a shirt for Grey and went to dress him up.

He picked him up and placed him in the carriage. After that, there was nothing more to do, so they got into the carriage with Ava driving.

The night was already far spent, and the sun would soon be peeking out of the horizon.

They travelled in silence for a bit, and then Zane spoke. "Ava, what is it like being part of the second most hated race?" he asked.

"Well, now that your race doesn’t exist anymore, we are the first hated race. The second is the dragons," she responded.

"The dragons? Do they even leave their home?" he asked.

"For someone that is just travelling, you know a lot. The dragons don’t easily leave their home. At best, you can see wyverns or lesser dragons.

Their continent is extremely massive, but heavily guarded," Ava said.

’What she said isn’t wrong, but she is speaking of only the common information. Dragons aren’t just at home, they are everywhere as well.

When a dragon becomes of age, he has to leave into the unknown for a while until he feels he has reached a stage where he has earned the right to return.

Some dragons stay in human worlds for over five hundred to a thousand years, and some have connections to other races, deals, and more.

But when you see a dragon in the Bloodline Realm, something big is happening’. Zane recalled what he knew about the realm in his mind.

"Still, what does it feel like being hated by humans and other races?" Zane asked.

"Hate is also very close to fear. Most humans fear us, and this fear allows demons to do what they want. Seeing us as savages makes them wary.

And they should be. The demon race is a very dangerous place, and this is coming from me, a demon," she said casually.
