Si Ning had lost a bit of weight because he had a little appetite so he wasn’t able to eat much, his eyes were swollen and red, this was due to him crying for a long time, he was sitting in a luxurious carriage on a soft padded chair and next to him was Xiu Zhicheng that was lying on the mattress sleeping.

The battle between Xiu Zhicheng and Qiu Bai led both parties to sustain a large number of wounds which Si Ning didn’t notice and it might have been the reason Qiu Bai was slow to react when he fought him. To make matter worst Xiu Zhicheng had already sustained some arrow wounds before Si Ning got to him but due to his consumption of a series of poisons over time and detoxifying out of his system when he was still growing, the method was a harsh method which made his body strong to be able to withstand any poison but at the same time, his immune system was getting weak in a way that as an Emperor that underwent the poison training like every other Emperors before them wouldn’t reach their old age before dying.

All these were things Si Ning doesn’t know, he didn’t know the burden the title Emperor had to carry and he even discovered that Xiu Zhicheng always had a weak body and a weak heart when he was small but underwent many treatments as the Crown Prince and he also had medications he used to take daily but there was no way his body wouldn’t collapse one day.

Si Ning was in pain that Xiu Zhicheng kept it all from him and he didn’t even suspect anything but now just seeing his husband lying there without him being able to help was hurting him so much that he wasn’t even angry that Xiu Zhicheng kept his medical conditions from him.

When the war was over Si Ning had to run to find Song Feng and when he finally saw Song Feng, he ran to him like a mad man and demanded the cure of all pills Ah Dai made but Song Feng reminded him they used the last two pills to save themselves before he could recreate it so all the skilled doctors with Song Feng came together and were able to get rid of a large amount of poison and gave Xiu Zhicheng a large amount of sleeping potion but Lin Fan was treated but in a vegetative state with little hope that he would wake up.

The poison they got out from Xiu Zhicheng’s body was not all, some had sipped into his heart and were impossible to flush out and it was turning the heart darker over time and when it finally gets dark without any hint of healthiness Xiu Zhicheng would die. The poison was something the doctors never know and they had to get some samples to create an antidote which they had been working on but there was no assurance that the antidote was going to be able to get rid of the bad blood in the heart.

Si Ning had to check the process but those poisonous ingredients were gotten from another region, perhaps from an unknown specie of poisonous animals and plants so it would need time for the antidote to be prepared but at the main time the soldiers of Xilie that were caught knew nothing about the poison, Yi Chen was able to get rid of Qiu Bai’s guard which means they had gotten rid of another lead so they had to use messenger birds to inquire about the poison from the captured men the other Xiu’s armies captured and the result that came back was a description of a black insect-like from a land of sands which Si Ning detected that it should be a desert scorpion and he sent Yi Chen to meet Lan Zhang and Lan Wan maybe they might know something and at the end, they received a list of the poison ingredients from different regions and Song Feng with the rest of the doctors had to work on to recreate the poison in other to create an antidote.

Seeing Xiu Zhicheng weak made Si Ning pray hard that he prayed to every god he knows or had heard of, he kept begging them to not let Xiu Zhicheng die, he hadn’t even had a great time nor did they ever spend a whole day together so he prayed that he wants to spend the rest of his lives happily right beside Xiu Zhicheng so every god out there should keep his husband alive and he would start going to the temple every day and even make sure to take care of all temples in Xiu.

"Si Ning."

Si Ning noticed Xiu Zhicheng’s eyes were open, his eyes were brighter than ever and no one would suspect he might be suffering. "Xiu Zhicheng, do you need anything?" He asked as he poured medicinal water in a jug into a cup and moved closer to help Xiu Zhicheng lift his head to take the water.

"Yes, I want you to come and lay beside me." Xiu Zhicheng said in a low gentle soothing voice as he scooted to the back to create space for Si Ning and he tapped the space beside him.

Si Ning placed the cup on the table, he didn’t waste time as he quickly moved and laid down on the soft mattress obediently beside Xiu Zhicheng. "You should sleep more." He said, concern written all over his face because when he got close he was able to notice the tiredness written all over Xiu Zhicheng’s face.

"But that is all have been doing." Xiu Zhicheng replied as he placed a hand on Si Ning’s cheek, he then touched the tip of Si Ning’s perfect straight bangs tracing it. "Your hair I like it, it is so soft, small and beautiful."

Si Ning couldn’t smile at the compliment. "You will not leave me will you?" He had to ask as he felt tears willed up his eyes.

Xiu Zhicheng smiled. "How can I leave my sweet Empress alone after knowing how much he loves me that he is willing to die for me when I was in danger." He held one hand of Si Ning, bringing it to his lips and brushed his lips on the back as he smirked cockily. "You know Si Ning I always want to take you to the temporary Imperial residence, I thought we will go there one day and spend a lot of time there together."

"Why did you think? when we will definitely go." Si Ning corrected, the Imperial residence was where he first saw Xiu Zhicheng and laughed at him because he thought he was a hidden guard.

"You’re right but I don’t like seeing your eyes red and puffy, I love your face so much, so for me do not cry again because I will not leave you." Xiu Zhicheng said and smiled. "We won the war because of you so you have to smile when we get to Xiu, there will be a large celebration."

The way Xiu Zhicheng was talking and how lightly he held his hand, Si Ning knew he was still weak and still feeling drowsy because his eyes were half closed as he talked while trying to have more grip on his hand.

"I want to sleep." Si Ning lied and closed his eyes. What a vague way to go to bed.

"Are you serious? Are you going to sleep?....... Si Ning? Si Ning?..my beautiful and amazing Empress." Xiu Zhicheng moved closer and placed a kiss on Si Ning’s forehead.

Si Ning blushed and moved closer yet he refused to open his eyes or say a word as he listened to Xiu Zhicheng calling him a series of sweet names. After a while Si Ning didn’t hear Xiu Zhicheng anymore as everything became silent so he opened his eyes in panic as his heart started beating fast only to see that Xiu Zhicheng’s eyes were closed and he was asleep once more yet Si Ning still placed a finger right under his nostrils to confirm if he was still breathing, he felt the faint hot air brush his fingers yet he still placed to finger at the side of Xiu Zhicheng’s neck to feel a pulse just as expected he felt it but still placed a hand on Xiu Zhicheng’s chest right where the heart was located, it was beating in a steady rhythm that no one would have suspected that the heart wasn’t healthy, it wasn’t the modern day world where operation could be possible and Si Ning was an Actor, a useless one at that and if he had known he would ever find himself in an unknown world that showed him love he would have gone to the university properly and probably study medicine, perhaps be a cardiac surgeon.
