Chapter 269: Bluff

It would be weird that after five of Ge Liang’s men saw Lan Zhang and Lan Wan with Si Ning and Song Feng just a hundred meters away from them, then they disappeared and spend time before finally showing up at the camp, it might raise suspicion if it was reported to Ge Liang so this gave Si Ning no choice than to hasten and conclude their plan with Lan Zhang and his men then they started heading down straight to Ge Liang’s camp.

According to Si Ning’s plan, it was Lan Zhang and Lan Wan that were walking at the front like a fog that was just descending while their men walked behind them and each of their strides was a determined step and this was to create some sort of curtain because if it was only Lan Zhang walking at the front, anyone would want to check the followers too but since they were two tall men then anyone that saw them would be compelled to watch them without even glancing at the men behind them. Song Feng and Si Ning were now dressed in armour just to blend in with the group, the armour was given to them by two of Lan Zhang’s men which means the two men were exposed in their plane robes and they were the only two people in the group without amour.

To conceal Si Ning’s identity, a large part of Si Ning’s face was bandaged, not bandaged enough to raise suspicion but bandaged enough to show his face was bandaged for a treatment of wounds he sustained but the bandaged purpose was to hide his identity because one of the Lan Zhang men recognised him so someone might also recognise him among Ge Liang’s men and his unusual short hair might give him away to Ge Liang because when he was in the pit, he remembered Ge Liang staring at him so intensely. Song Feng on the other hand face was wiped clean but this time his hair was left long and loose, he was standing at the back of the soldiers walking in a position that it would be difficult for someone facing them to see his face, he gave some few distances to the two men not in armour, leaving two people between them.

The way the group walked in rows, the first people anyone would notice were Lan Zhang and Lan Wan because they were the leaders walking majestically at the front then they would notice Si Ning with his unusual bandage who was standing right in the next row behind the leaders then they would also notice the two men without armour so no one would take note of Song Feng who wore his hair down just like five other soldiers in the group so he was mixed among them.

For their choice of weapon, Song Feng was given a dagger which he tucked in his waistbelt because he could wield a dagger better than a sword while Si Ning only had a bow which he held right beside him, his sword was with Song Feng and he wore a bag of arrows, he blended with the rest that if he didn’t have such bandages that made him stand out, no one would notice him but for their plan to work he needed to stand at the frontline to conceal any suspicion because standing at the back might look odd.

After their long walk, they finally arrived at the camp, the route leading to the camp was wide so they were spotted early, two men stood up and approached them instantly like they had been waiting for them. One was walking at the front while the other was like two feet behind him, the one standing at the front stood with a swagger bending sideways with his hand on the hilt of his sword, a thin long grass that looked like catnip in his mouth, he had a black eyepatch and was dressed in black with ridiculous high collar that reached his chin and anyone could tell he had shoulders pad too because his shoulders were straight and with the way he was grinning looking so confident with his weird dressing, anyone could tell he was the leader of Ge Liang’s hired men.

"Well well well if it isn’t Commander Lan." The leader of Ge Liang’s men said in mockery and the man behind him laughed like he just said something funny.

"I can see you are doing well with your private business Lee." Lan Zhang said firmly.

"So sad to see you stoop so low to create that stupid fighting competition, what do you call it... children’s play by stupid Lan?" Lee said when he finally came face to face with Lan Zhang, he made sure to stand at his front and he tilted his head up so that they could look eye to eye.

"What?" Lan Wan wanted to move forward but he was blocked by the hand Lan Zhang extended.

"Oh oh oh..." Lee laughed and the man behind him also joined in laughing. "And it is Emperor Lee, I am the Emperor of my business.." He said and spat right at the side of Lan Zhang then he chuckled as his mouth fell, his expression becoming very serious. "I heard from my men, they saw you fight a man then all of you left. I thought perhaps you are planning something so I allowed my men to check the woods and what did they find...?" He trailed off, his eye twinkling as the corner of his mouth raised into a smirk.

Si Ning’s senses might be dull but he was sure if anything was amiss at where they did the planning, Lan Zhang or Lan Wan would have detected it so the man called Lee was only trying to provoke them in his subtle investigation and he was just bluffing.

It wasn’t part of Si Ning’s plan that one among Ge Liang’s men would know Lan Zhang and worst it was the leader, the way they talked they seemed familiar with each other but so far so good Lan Zhang didn’t give any sign that they might be in danger or the man called Lee was a friend so none of them reacts.

Si Ning doesn’t have time to waste studying the man called Lee so he quickly looked around by moving only his eyes to survey the environment. There were a total of four tents, one probably for storage because it was the smallest and dark in colour at the far corner, separate from the rest of the tent, two bigger tents probably for the hired men and the most quality looking medium sized tent probably for Ge Liang. He saw four Ge Liang’s men by a small fire, pot on it, cooking, five were in front of the seven reserved forces that knelt at the front of a tent and they were laughing as they kicked one of the reserved forces while making jokes about who they would call to save them, four men were standing at a weapon stand and four were training behind them not training but using their weapons to play fight and laugh as they keep asking themselves if they should probably test their weapons on their captives then they proceed to throw darts at the seven reserved force, two men came out of a tent and joined those training, five came out of the tent for storage carrying different ingredients to join the four men by the fire. A total of nine men at the pot, ten men at the weapon stand, and five bullying the seven reserved forces making a total of twenty four in total.

Just like a switch Si Ning noticed he was being watched so he quickly directed his gaze to the man called Lee who was watching him keenly then came to stand in front of him looking at him eye to eye then he stared at Si Ning from head to toe, Si Ning was calm if it comes to worse they would have to start their attack early so he placed his free hand behind him and raised his forefinger and middle finger pointing at his left, Zhang Lang’s men behind him saw his fingers and two of them got separated from their group and moved over to where Ge Liang’s men were cooking, this diverted Lee’s attention instantly as he frowned looking as the men that joined those cooking.
