Chapter 540: Chapter 463 Emperor Liang Dotes on Treasure Piggy the Most - Part 2
Emperor Liang’s expression changed in an instant, his tone cheerful as he pulled the little one into his arms: "Hey! What a good baby!"
Treasure Piggy asked, "Great-grandfather, who are they? Why are they arguing with Grandpa and Daddy?"
Everyone froze in shock.
Don’t say such nonsense!
Who’s arguing with your Grandpa and Daddy?
Children don’t lie, and Emperor Liang’s gaze instantly turned sharp.
Look at his sons—though the Crown Prince hadn’t been deposed yet, it seemed like they couldn’t wait any longer.
He turned his gaze toward Lu Zhaoyan and Lu Yuan.
The father and son had identical expressions, lowering their eyes in silent endurance.
Anyone would think they’d been severely mistreated.
The crowd was dumbfounded.
Who bullied you two? So shameless!
"Come up."
Emperor Liang said to Lu Zhaoyan.
Lu Zhaoyan replied, "Your Majesty, I dare not."
Emperor Liang: "Yuan’er, come up."
Lu Yuan cupped his hands respectfully: "Yes, Royal Grandfather!"
Lu Zhaoyan stared wide-eyed in disbelief. Weren’t they supposed to share the same fate? You’re abandoning your father?
"No point enduring hardship alone." Lu Yuan raised his brow and gracefully stepped onto the imperial palanquin.
He glanced at the little one, "Let Daddy carry you for a bit."
"No way!"
Treasure Piggy twisted her tiny body and burrowed into Emperor Liang’s embrace.
Holding the little one, Emperor Liang ordered the entourage toward Kunning Palace.
Gongsun Liuying had arrived early.
When the three entered the inner hall, she was massaging the Empress’s acupoints.
The Empress was Emperor Liang’s primary wife. Though their marriage didn’t exude passion, they treated each other with mutual respect.
She rose to offer Emperor Liang a bow.
Emperor Liang, cradling the now-sleeping Bao Shu, sat beside the Empress: "You’re not well; stay seated."
"Is Zhaozhao asleep?"
The Empress asked with a smile.
Emperor Liang replied, "Just fell asleep."
The Empress instructed the female official nearby: "Take Zhaozhao away; don’t let His Majesty wear himself out."
"I’m not tired."
He simply loved holding her.
Treasure Piggy, even asleep, held her tiny chin high, her little expression brimming with confidence.
The more Emperor Liang looked at her, the more fond he grew.
Such an adorable little darling—he wished he could give her all the best things the world had to offer.
The Empress silently took a sip of tea.
Gongsun Liuying gave Emperor Liang and Lu Zhaoyan a respectful bow: "Liuying greets Your Majesty and the Crown Prince."
Her peripheral glance fell on Lu Yuan, faintly guessing his identity.
She offered him a slight bow as well.
"How is the Empress’s health?"
Emperor Liang asked Gongsun Liuying.
Gongsun Liuying replied, "Responding to Your Majesty, Her Grace has caught a mild cold. As long as she takes the medicine pills I prepare on time, she will be fully recovered within three days."
"Hmm."
Emperor Liang nodded slightly, trusting Gongsun Liuying’s medical skills.
The Crown Prince and Lu Yuan bowed to pay their respects to the Empress.
"Mother."
"Royal Grandmother."
Although Lu Yuan had stayed in the palace for a few days, this was his first meeting with the Empress.
Elegant and dignified, the Empress emanated a gentle yet commanding presence: "So you’re Yuan’er. Come here and let me have a look."
Lu Yuan approached the Empress.
The Empress called for a palace attendant to place a seat beside them, then held Lu Yuan’s hand, inspecting him thoroughly: "You look just like His Majesty in his younger days."
Emperor Liang nodded—this was exactly what he liked to hear.
The Empress added, "I’ve heard that you were unwell recently; are you fully recovered now?"
Here it comes.
Lu Yuan smiled faintly and replied, "Much to Royal Grandmother’s concern, Yuan’er has recovered completely."
The Empress sighed, "I feel as though you’re a bit too thin. His Majesty was much sturdier in his youth."
Emperor Liang remarked, "I had to fight wars back then; he doesn’t have to."
The Empress said to Emperor Liang, "As your subject, I worry for our grandson. He fell ill soon after arriving at the Crown Prince Mansion, and later narrowly escaped a fire... I fear he may develop lingering effects. Since Liuying is here today, perhaps Liuying could check Yuan’er’s pulse."
Lu Zhaoyan subtly glanced at the Empress and Gongsun Liuying.
A woman willing to betray her conscience for profit—thank goodness she never became his daughter-in-law.
Emperor Liang also worried that Lu Yuan might bear lasting weaknesses; after all, since entering the Imperial City, the boy seemed perpetually ill—or pretending to be.
Given that Gongsun Liuying was present, it was a convenient request, and he had no reason to decline.
"Then I’ll trouble Miss Gongsun to check my grandson’s pulse."
"Liuying obeys the imperial decree."
Gongsun Liuying approached Lu Yuan.
She wore a veil, revealing only her smooth forehead and delicate eyebrows.
Lu Yuan confidently extended his wrist: "Miss Gongsun, please be meticulous."
Gongsun Liuying placed her slender fingers on his wrist: "Young Master Linyuan, have you experienced any recent discomfort?"
Lu Yuan replied indifferently, "Plenty. Headache, backache, waist ache—everything aches."
Gongsun Liuying asked further: "How is your appetite?"
Lu Yuan enunciated deliberately: "Restless in sleep and dining."
Gongsun Liuying’s gaze flickered.
Clearly, she hadn’t expected Lu Yuan to react this way.
She hesitated slightly and said, "Your pulse doesn’t seem to reflect any of those symptoms."
