Chapter 485: Chapter 429: Grandparent and Grandchild Reunion
"Emperor Liang is here?"
Lu Yuan lifted the curtain of the carriage.
By now, their carriage had reached the vicinity of the Crown Prince Mansion. Upon hearing the eunuch’s announcement, the guards at the gate all knelt to pay their respects, and Steward Jia, as if stepping on a pair of fiery wheels, darted out with a whoosh and immediately fell to his knees before Emperor Liang’s carriage.
Lu Qi’s carriage also came to a halt.
Due to his angle, Lu Yuan could only catch sight of a pair of dragon-embroidered boots and the sweeping hem of a wide-sleeved robe adorned with dragon patterns.
He then shifted his gaze to the shadow of the man on the ground.
Emperor Liang was not young anymore—his age comparable to that of the Supreme Emperor. However, it was evident that Emperor Liang’s physique was sturdier and more upright, his stride steadier and more formidable.
Back when he was still King Qin, he was already famed for his valor in battle and was known as the "Martial King."
Even from a distance, Lu Yuan could still feel the overwhelming aura and pressure emanating from him.
Emperor Liang was a ruthless man.
His thunderous methods had kept the Southwest in awe for decades. Those regional chieftains who carved out their own territories—rather than calling it a kingdom unto themselves—were more accurately described as those surviving because Emperor Liang had no desire to vie with them for dominion.
But once he resolved to claim the throne, who among those forces dared to defy him?
A man so ruthless, and yet he had become a protector for the Thousand Mechanism Pavilion.
Lu Yuan dared not even imagine—if he could somehow take Emperor Liang away from the Pavilion, how terrifying his power in the Southwest would be.
By now, Lu Qi was far too busy to bicker with Lu Yuan. He quickly disembarked from his carriage to greet Emperor Liang.
Lu Yuan wanted to follow suit.
He had just leaned out half his body when Ji Feng blocked him.
Ji Feng was slightly out of breath, his forehead covered in sweat.
Lu Yuan’s lips curled up. "What a coincidence, Master Ji Feng."
Ji Feng, suppressing the chill within him, interrogated, "Why did you leave me behind?"
Without changing his expression, Lu Yuan calmly replied, "Master Ji Feng, if you lost track of me because your own martial arts aren’t up to par, violating the trust the Crown Prince placed in you, how can you have the nerve to place the blame on me?"
Ji Feng, momentarily rendered speechless: "..."
"Excuse me, step aside."
Lu Yuan brushed past the arm obstructing his way, stepping leisurely out of the carriage.
Ji Feng stepped forward again, blocking him once more. "What are you planning to do?"
Lu Yuan righteously stated, "His Majesty is here. I must pay my respects to His Majesty. Otherwise, wouldn’t that be an insult to His Majesty, leaving me with a charge of disrespect?"
Ji Feng replied, "His Highness has instructed that you must not recklessly approach His Majesty."
"How would I..." Lu Yuan’s words trailed off halfway. He looked at Ji Feng with a meaningful expression and said, "It seems your Highness didn’t receive any advance notice that His Majesty would be coming to the Crown Prince Mansion this morning."
Ji Feng glanced at Lu Yuan, then silently stepped aside.
Lu Yuan laughed and smirked at the Crown Prince standing behind Ji Feng. "Well, Father, you’re here."
The Crown Prince said, "Stop calling me that nonsense. Ji Feng, escort him back to his courtyard and keep him there. Do not let him come out."
"Yes, Your Highness!"
Ji Feng bowed his head in acknowledgment.
The Crown Prince made his way toward the mansion interior.
Just as Lu Yuan was about to follow, the blade of Ji Feng’s treasure sword left its sheath.
Lu Yuan, surprised, asked, "You want to kill me?"
Ji Feng calmly replied, "If necessary."
Lu Yuan let out a cold snort. "Are you rebelling?"
Ji Feng answered, "His Highness only said to keep an eye on you. He didn’t specify that you had to remain alive."
Lu Yuan: ... Such twisted logic.
Realizing that causing too much of a commotion here would leave a terrible first impression, Lu Yuan decided to feign compliance for now.
After being escorted back to the Crown Prince’s courtyard, he found himself surrounded by a small army of elite guards. Even trips to the latrine were accompanied.
The very same strategy he had once used against Shang Wuyou had now turned into a boomerang aimed at him.
Lu Yuan knew that with Ji Feng and the others dead set on guarding him, meeting Emperor Liang today would be an impossible feat.
He got up and started walking back.
Ji Feng followed him closely.
Lu Yuan turned around, looking at him with exasperation. "I’m going back to my room to sleep."
Ji Feng, along with three Imperial Guards, entered Lu Yuan’s room alongside him.
Lu Yuan’s icy gaze swept over all four men.
Such a deadlock—just how terrified was Lu Zhaoyan of him spouting nonsense in front of Emperor Liang?
Lu Yuan lay down on the soft bedding.
"The curtain," he commanded indifferently.
Ji Feng pulled the bed curtains down for him.
-
Emperor Liang’s visit to the Crown Prince Mansion today was to see Mr. Ziwu.
Mr. Ziwu was originally from Witch Mountain, a fellow disciple of the Miaojiang Goddess, and his skills were equal to hers.
With Mr. Ziwu on their side, Great Liang now had its own Divine Envoy.
Unfortunately, Mr. Ziwu had been so badly injured by Lu Yuan’s downhill terror tactic that he had slept for a whole day and night and was still bedridden, unable to meet Emperor Liang.
Emperor Liang, however, showed no dissatisfaction. Instead, he immediately ordered the Imperial Physician to check Mr. Ziwu’s condition.
"It is merely overexertion. Careful rest and recovery are all that’s required," the Imperial Physician reported.
Emperor Liang’s expression eased. "If that’s the case, let him rest well. I shall visit him another day."
Having not seen his only Imperial Grandson for several days, Emperor Liang departed from Mr. Ziwu’s courtyard and headed to Lu Qi’s study. There, he tested Lu Qi’s studies and had him write an essay on policy strategy.
