Chapter 80: No help (Kari)

Buying time didn’t go as planned. Despite my efforts to reach Ivy and update her on the situation, communication seemed impossible.

Zach’s unwavering love for Annabelle was unexpected. Despite everything, their bond remained strong.

Their unity made them formidable, and even madam superior may not be able to defeat them. My last hope was to enlist the help of the dungeon guards, but Zach’s defenses thwarted all my spells.

As a hybrid with a witch mother and a werewolf father, I found it easy to conceal my witchy side. However, with the wolf ban and the mirror restrictions, it became impossible for me to act, and my wolf was too feeble to communicate with me.

"Please, could I have some water?" I pleaded, my voice feeble from being deprived of both food and water for three consecutive days. I tried to hold onto hope, to endure until help arrived, but I was too weak to take any action.

"I’m sorry, but we are not obligated to care for you. No one would even notice if you died," one of the guards remarked. He had been very loyal to me in the past, but as soon as Annabelle returned, none of my spells seemed to work.

This had not been the case before, but I suppose it was due to her connection with Zach. How foolish of me to have fallen in love with him when I should have stuck to the plan.

That was why the pain was so intense. "Is Jack around?" I inquired, hoping that Jack would come to my aid, given the level of respect he had for me and how I used to lavish him with money.

However, everyone had turned against me. I’m here, Kari, but you won’t get help from me," he said directly, and my heart sank. "Why not? You have to help me, please," I begged, but my pleas fell on deaf ears.

"Because of you, I turned against Anna. She was once in this dungeon, and when she asked me for water, I refused to give her. Imagine what would happen to me with the rumors I’m hearing that she would soon become the Luna?"

Luna? Even when Zach mistook me for her, he only planned an engagement party and never mentioned anything about my coronation. With her, he wasn’t even planning for an engagement. Life isn’t fair at all. Even under the spell, he seemed to have a partial level head.

That’s how I endured another night of hunger, thirst, and undesirable conditions, like the stench that has now become my usual breathing air. Part of it was my own doing. My body odor made me want to puke, and now Zach would find me even more unattractive. However, I felt saddened that I couldn’t see my pup.

If I had known that Zach already knew everything, I would have never come back. But I guess it’s too late now, and who knows how my pup would survive on his own since no one around here knows my family.

The aroma of food and the voices of the maids enveloped me. These were the times when the warriors guarding this dungeon were fed, and none of them even spared me a bite.

Considering my situation, I’d say that Annabelle had it easy because she never stayed in this wretched place for so long.

Sleep overcame me due to weakness, but I woke up to the voices of the warriors once again. "Alpha, Anna..." one of them was saying when I heard Zach’s cold voice.

"You better start addressing her as your Luna."

"Luna," I heard Jack say. "I’m really sorry I didn’t help you then. Can you forgive me?"

"You were so desperate for power and promotion that you lost your humanity. Without it, we are just wolves," I heard Anna say before Zach’s voice interrupted.

"What’s going on?"

"In the dungeon, she asked me for water, but I refused to give it to her and even insulted her. Alpha, I’m very sorry, but please don’t banish me. I will do anything," he cried, sounding sincere.

I expected to hear Zach’s response, but it never came. Only Anna’s voice answered him.

"You won’t be banished, and as much as I would have loved to demote you, you were operating under Zach’s orders, so I can’t. However, you shall remain in your current position without a chance of being promoted, no matter how hard you pass the stages," Anna declared, and pain slashed through me.

Some people are born great, and she happens to be one of them. Despite living most of her life as an omega, she was able to make a wise judgment.

"You would have been rewarded if you had followed your instinct to help her secretly because you believe in her innocence. But even as her supervisor, you lack that, so her words are final," the Zach stated.

Jack sounded relieved. "Thank you, Alpha, and you, Luna. I accept my fate, and I hope that one day, I will be able to serve this tribe better."

"Open the grills," Zach’s voice commanded, sending a chill down my spine. The coldness emanating from him was a clear sign that things would not end well for me, though I still held onto hope that help would come.

As the grills lifted, so did whatever they used to block the sun’s rays. The blinding rays made me squint and cover my eyes with my elbow.

"Zach, we need to hurry. I can feel the effects of whatever you gave me wearing off," Anna’s voice sounded urgent, and Zach seemed concerned. "Here, take my shirt to cover yourself. I’ve already mindlinked Zion to bring you more," he assured her.

It was surprising how quickly things had escalated. Anna had always been labeled as a witch, but now I was being called a bitch.

As my eyes adjusted to the light, I could see their tired faces clearly. It was somewhat satisfying to see that they were also struggling, evident in their appearance.

"This is your final chance. Tell us about Iris or face the consequences," Zach’s tone was firm as he gave me an ultimatum. I weighed my options and began to share what little information I had.

"Iris mentioned she needed to prepare," I recalled, trying to recollect details about one of his twin sisters. "Prepare for what?" Zach’s question was laced with condescension. I couldn’t believe he had loved the wrong sister all this time.

"I don’t have all the details, but Ivy will," I informed him, noticing his darkening gaze. "Since you’re not being truthful with me, there’s no point in wasting time. Guards, prepare the brazen bull," he roared, sending me into a panic.

"No, please listen," I pleaded, attempting to stand but losing my balance due to my weakness. Fortunately, his twin brother arrived just in time.

"You should see your son at training. He’s a spitting image of you. And here, I brought the beetroot juice and gave some to Zion," he said.

Anna quickly drank the juice and felt her energy returning within seconds. "Thanks, Zion. Now, what do you have to say, Kari?"

A bitter smile crossed my lips as I watched her sudden burst of energy. Despite my urge to lash out at her, I knew it wouldn’t end well for me.

"Iris was the mastermind behind everything. She orchestrated a plan to leave the tribe without anyone knowing her whereabouts after our confrontation that morning. She needed a scapegoat, and I went along with it because she promised to help Ivy prepare more portions for Zach to love me," I admitted, berating myself silently. I hoped that stalling the search for Iris would give me a chance for help to arrive.

"I was naive to assist her, especially since she’s Zach’s sister. I fell right into her trap," Anna reflected, and Zach appeared regretful.

He seemed different from what I had heard from Mother Superior, and without the spell, he would have believed his wolf instincts over the evidence presented.

Despite our previous success, we find ourselves back at square one. "Thank you for revealing the truth," Zach’s twin brother said with a smile. "I had a feeling Bella was innocent when I rescued her, but you should thank your beta for saving her and guiding her to me."

Zach nodded. "He’s more than a beta. He’s my best friend, I would say."

"So, what do you plan to do with her?" Zion asked, causing my heart to race. Despite the discomfort and chill of the dungeon, it seemed preferable to death, as death offers no hope.

"I no longer have a use for her," Zach declared, crushing any hope within me. Surrounded by the dungeon’s horrors, seeking help seemed impossible, but I was not ready to give up.

"Zach, please, at least find Iris and Ivy. They are the masterminds behind everything. I am just a pawn," I pleaded, realizing that Zach was no longer under the spell’s influence.

His senses were sharp, and he could not be manipulated. "I need to make room for others. Take out the trash," Zach ordered, tears streaming down my face as I was dragged from the dungeon to the brazen bull.

Me, Kari, addressed from being a bitch to a trash?

As I beheld the monstrous torture device, I knew my end was near. Would hope be enough to save me? "Please, my pup needs me," I begged, but Zach’s expression remained cold, and his response to my plea filled me with regret.
