Chapter 73: I will confess. Iris is alive (Kari)
It wasn’t easy to escape from the Umbra Kin’s Tribe without being caught, but somehow, I managed to do so without any issues. Fortunately, a few coven agents met me halfway as I was already in labor.
Upon reaching the coven, Madam Superior was there to receive me, and after giving birth, she prepared some potions for me to safely return to the Crimson Moon Tribe.
During my time at the Umbra Kin Tribe, I secretly met with Ivy, who made some proposals that involved betraying Madam Superior. However, I had no intention of using the potions she gave me for that purpose.
"We’re running out of time. You need to get to the Crimson Moon Tribe quickly to prevent Alpha Zach from meeting Annabelle. We’ve realized that she’s the one we’ve been searching for," she revealed, causing my breath to catch in my throat.
It suddenly made sense why I always saw Annabelle as a threat. If I had managed to obtain her blood sample, everything would have been resolved.
Does this mean she’s carrying Zach’s pup?" I asked, feeling a pang in my chest. I had fallen in love with Zach, just as Ivy had hoped. If I become the Luna, Ivy could easily manipulate the situation to her advantage, but I was unsure if she could outwit Madam Superior.
Falling into the trap, I arrived at the Crimson Moon Tribe with my pup, using Madam Superior’s potion to deceive the tribe members into believing it was Zach’s. Gaius welcomed me, but I sensed that I had walked into his trap.
His kindness was a facade, as he never truly liked me and the potions had no effect on him.
What hurt the most was that Ivy’s potion for Zach’s allergies failed to work, and when he slapped me, his allergies flared up. I had been told that the previous spells were fading from his system and that his allergies would improve after he changed his diet, but that hadn’t happened yet.
A surprise awaited me as I discovered that Anna was the cure all along. Despite Zach’s betrayal, she allowed him to kiss her, which I found shameless and lacking in class. However, I couldn’t just give up now. With Reid gone, I worried about the fate of my pup, Zak, named after Zach. The spells were broken, and Zach’s anger was now directed at me.
His intense love for Anna tormented me, but I couldn’t bear to be subjected to his wrath. I needed someone to stand by me.
"Ivy orchestrated everything, driven by the pain of losing her twin sister, Iris. Remember, she’s your sister too, and the witch was responsible for Iris’s death."
I hoped that Zach’s anger would shift to Anna, fueled by his memories of Iris’s death since it was too late to make him consume the potion I still held.
Madam Superior had instructed me to offer it to him upon our meeting, but Anna’s presence threw me off, and I couldn’t proceed with our plans. It was too late as she had already seen it and drawn Zach’s attention to it.
During the banquet, I managed to switch the content and sticker on the bottle I gave her, ensuring that Zach would sleep with me.
Unbeknownst to her, I had someone else return the same spiked drink after rejecting it to avoid suspicion. Strangely, she ended up consuming it, and while Zach received his intended drink, mine went to her.
If I manage to escape this situation, I will seek revenge on her. Despite Iris using powerful magic to alter the bottles, everything still went awry after I gave Zach his drink.
Zach spoke with determination, "Belle saved my life by kneeling for seven days at the witches’ coven without food, water, or tending to her needs. She would never harm my sister, and I will uncover the truth."
Anna’s eyes widened briefly in surprise before a cold expression took over. I won’t believe Iris is dead until I find her body," Anna declared, and Zach seemed to be swayed by her words, his love evident in his eyes. I felt the weight of shame, having made sacrifices and worked hard on this matter.
"Kari, do you have any information about what happened to Ivy? I may reconsider your punishment if you’re honest with me," Zach said, his expression inscrutable. But how could I trust him?
"It’s pathetic that you’re subjecting me to this torture when this witch caused your favorite sister’s death and led your twin brother to banish her from the Lunar Echoes tribe," I pointed out, attempting to sow discord.
However, the spells had been completely erased from his body, rendering my words futile.
Desperate to win back Anna, Zach was willing to do anything for her. Before I was assigned this mission, we had thoroughly investigated Zach.
Only without his mate was he vulnerable, so we tried our best to keep them apart, but to no avail. After setting up everything to make him torture her, he was still able to win her over with just a kiss. So, just how strong could this mate bond be?
Was it stronger than what I shared with Reid? Anna had rejected him when he announced her as Luna, so perhaps they weren’t as strong as I had thought.
Their true powers will only manifest if she truly forgives him, but none of them will know about this great secret.
"Zach, I know you too well. Your heart is dark, so I will die with my secrets. But don’t worry. This isn’t over, and someone else will take my place."
Indeed, the coven was against them, including his sisters. How could he escape without Anna’s forgiveness?
Madam Superior was still working in the shadows, so there is no way for them to win. Being in the brazen bull cannot be as bad as they make it sound, right? Giving birth to my pup was the greatest pain I ever endured in my life, so how could the brazen bull compare to that?
"Gaius, set the fire," Zach ordered, and I felt like something died inside of me. ’I can’t save you from the pain there,’ my wolf warned me. She helped me endure Zach’s punches, but even she was afraid of the brazen bull, making me question if I made the right decision.
Should I confess? I was about to speak when I saw Anna’s canines elongate as she glared at Zach with desire. Not the desire of a woman wanting a man, but rather as if she wanted to devour him.
"Zach, look at her," I drew his attention, expecting him to investigate, but instead, he pulled her into his arms and yelled at Gaius. "Hold on, get me some beets. Just wash and blend them with garlic."
Anna was struggling against him, trying to bite his neck, but he restrained her in the most gentle way. It was both romantic and painful for me to see them like that.
"Could she be a vampire?" somebody whispered, but no one responded, seemingly afraid of Zach.
However, he heard what the person said and looked upset. "It’s time for all of you to return to your homes."
"Please, Alpha, we want to witness what happens to this traitor. The brazen bull execution is not something we see every day," another person countered, gaining Zach’s favor.
"Alright, you can watch, but no one should speak."
Gaius returned, accompanied by Alpha Zion, who appeared visibly worried about Anna. With the twin brothers hovering around her, I felt a mix of bitterness, pain, and jealousy.
The wolfless outcast omega was now the center of attention for the two most prominent Alphas of our time. How did I end up like this? I can take care of my mate," Zach said possessively, but Zion was not upset, only smiling.
"I know you can, but I just wanted to know how you knew about this. Zeke likes this drink a lot, so I made it when Gaius mentioned beets. In his case, we omit the garlic."
Pieces of the puzzle were beginning to add up. Anna had super speed, so Zach was most probably using the beets to help her quench her bloody thirst and the garlic to keep it away for a while.
This revelation could make the tribe members hate and most probably reject her.
As soon as Anna sipped the drink Zach offered her, her discomfort seemed to cease, and she pulled away from his embrace.
This was my chance to strike, so I spoke sarcastically while still disgraced on the floor. "Zach, how can you choose a vampire over me?"
"A vampire?" the tribe members whispered in anger and hate. Zach’s expression darkened, and that was when I realized my mistake. He ordered, "Put her in the brazen bull before setting the fire."
Since I was gaining an audience, I couldn’t allow myself to die. Perhaps I should buy some more time for my seed of hatred in the tribe members to grow, so I mentioned, "I will confess. Iris is alive."
