Chapter 67: He kissed Bella and fainted (Annabelle)

"What’s happening?" Zion asked, confused by the sudden turn of events. I was taken aback, thinking Alpha Zach was playing a prank until Zeke squirmed out of Zion’s grasp. As soon as he hit the floor gently, Zeke stood up and walked over to his father, looking up at him with a questioning gaze.

"Daddy, do you hate me?" Zeke’s first words brought tears to my eyes, a mix of joy and confusion. Until now, Zeke had only mastered sitting and had never attempted to crawl, let alone walk. It seemed he had saved this milestone for his father. How unexpected.

"What’s going on? Isn’t he just four months away from turning five?" Elisa inquired, trying to make sense of the situation as Zion tried to revive Alpha Zach.

"Zach, wake up. What’s happening?" Zion’s attempts to rouse him were met with silence. Without hesitation, Zion lifted Alpha Zach onto his shoulder and hurried out of the room.

"Mama, I love you," Zeke’s tiny voice called out from below, his outstretched hands beckoning me to pick him up. Overwhelmed with emotion, I scooped him up in my arms, feeling a sense of warmth and love wash over me.

"I love you too," I whispered, following Zeke’s gaze to the door. "Let’s go find Dadda."

With a deep breath, I followed Zion out of the room, Zeke cradled in my arms. Elisa stayed behind to inform the others, as Madai and Apphia had already left for work.

Dina was taken aback by the sight of Alpha Zach, but Zion quickly instructed her, "Attend to him. I can’t feel him." I knew he meant the twin bond, and that seemed strange.

If Alpha Zach dies, then so would Zion, so being alive meant Alpha Zach was too. How sad? I honestly wished him dead.

Dina checked on Alpha Zach briefly before staring at Zion and asking, "What happened?"

"He kissed Bella and fainted," Zach summarized. Zeke was sitting quietly on a chair, as if he understood how busy the adults were.

"His beta must know something," Dina said, as Zion asked her, "Something like what?"

Dina went into deep thought. "It will take time for me to find out, but if the beta gives us a clue, it will make it easier."

Zion was already typing something on Telegram, so I inched closer and read it. ’Gaius, Zach kissed Bella and fainted. Do you know anything about this?’ A minute passed before we received a response. ’I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly,’ Gaius replied.

’Let’s be serious. We can’t help him if we don’t know what’s going on, and besides, he initiated the kiss. Bella can’t stand him,’ Zion pointed out.

’Oh,’ Gaius responded, leaving me curious about his thoughts. ’I hope Bella will understand that Zach is under a spell. I discovered that a kiss from his destined mate could break it and informed him before he left.’

His revelation left me stunned, but Zion was already sharing the information with Dina, giving me the opportunity to continue the telegram with Gaius.

’What do you mean by a spell? This is Bella,’ I informed him.

’Anna, I’m relieved to hear from you. Yes, Zach has been under a spell, which is why I knew his judgment about you was incorrect. I’m still investigating further, but Kari has just returned. Please, Anna, I know this is a lot to take in, but you need to help Zach. When you return, I will explain everything. Some things can’t be discussed here,’ Gaius urged.

Kari had returned? Where had she been, and what was happening within the Crimson Moon tribe? Additionally, Gaius was addressing his Alpha by his first name, indicating something significant was unfolding. If Zach had accepted my rejection, I wouldn’t be interested in this conversation, but I hoped that Kari still had just one eye.

’Gaius, I’m sorry, but I won’t come there. You have to tell me everything now.’

It took about five minutes for him to reply. ’I understand, but then you’ll miss out on the show. Please trust me and come with Zach. You won’t regret it.’

’Why do you address him by his first name?’ I asked, but didn’t get a reply.

"Bella, I’m very sorry," Zion said behind me. I was upset but forced a smile. "What am I supposed to do? Tortured and almost killed by one twin, then rescued by the other, and yet betrayed afterward was not an interesting story.

"He’s been pestering me for months, and I had to respect your decision of not wanting to see or hear anything about him, which is why I had to comply with his request without informing you. Look, there are things that only Zach can teach his pup because of their bond, so please don’t take it to heart."

"I shouldn’t take it to heart? What am I supposed to do? So I’m just supposed to allow him to hurt me and come back as if nothing happened?" This was completely insane and I hated the way I was feeling.

Zion smiled, but it was a sad one. "You read the telegram. He has been under a spell, and I know how Gaius has been trying to help him all this while."

No, I can’t believe he was under spell but how can I prove it? How could someone like Alpha Zach be under a spell? I couldn’t understand, but going to the Crimson Moon Tribe was not in my plan either.

"Whatever, since he doesn’t want me dead anymore, I feel it’s time for me to find my own path," I said. His expression turned painful. "Bella, what are you talking about?"

"Alpha, we have a situation," Dina interrupted. Zion stared at me once again before giving her his full attention. "Tell me."

"It seems to me that two different dark forces cast the spell. One was broken with the kiss, but the other will wipe some parts of his memory," Dina revealed. I wasn’t liking this and asked her, "Which parts of his memory are we talking about here?"

"Well, it will depend on what the charms were sent to do, but he won’t have his complete memory if I apply the antidote."

Why did I have the feeling that those memories will be related to me? For some reason, I didn’t want him to lose any.

"And what if you don’t apply the antidote?" I asked seriously. She shook her head. "Then we might completely lose him after a few days."

That would be nice. "If he dies, will it..." I was asking when Zeke’s tiny hands wrapped around my legs. "Mommy, please save daddy."

I was still processing the fact that my pup was talking and walking at four months, something I was yet to research, but when his pleading eyes met mine, I felt helpless.

"Bella, I will respect whatever decision you take for as long as you don’t leave," Zion said. My lips pursed tightly together. All the pain from before was swirled around me, so how can I let him live?
