Chapter 39: Hard battles
[2 x Tier two rabbit horn – a crafting ingredient, it has good mana conductivity]
An idea formed in his mind. After waiting for his mana to fully regenerate, a process that didn’t took that much time, thanks to his hight stats, he activated his weapon creation skill.
The rabbit horns responded to his magic differently than the wood and basic metals he was accustomed to working with. They seemed to drink in his mana hungrily, requiring nearly his entire pool to properly shape and bind them together.
The transformation was remarkable to watch. The two horns began to glow and soften, their spiral structure unwinding and reforming as Mitch’s magic guided them.
They flowed together like liquid, reshaping themselves into the sleek form of a dagger. The blade retained the horns’ natural curve, creating a weapon that was both beautiful and deadly.
[Tier 2 Rabbit horn dagger – Made by Mitch through magic ways, it has a good magic conductivity, its sharp edge is great for skinning beasts, +10% damage and -10% mana consumption with dagger skills]
Mitch held up the finished weapon, admiring his creation. The craftsmanship was far superior to anything he had created before, a testament to both his growing skill and the quality of the materials.
"How much do you think I could get for this in the city?" he asked, showing Leya the weapon and its detailed statistics.
She examined the dagger carefully, testing its weight and balance. "Maybe 50 gold coins? Possibly more if you find the right buyer."
Mitch’s face fell slightly. "Not that much, huh?"
Leya laughed, a sound that echoed pleasantly in the verdant chamber. "Mitch, that’s actually quite good money. You’re just spoiled by our last shopping experience when we sold those rare items.
Most people work for weeks to earn 50 gold coins. If you can make several of these..." She gestured around at the remaining monster clusters. "Well, let’s just say I might be able to afford those defensive skills sooner than expected."
The prospect of turning their dungeon delving into a profitable crafting venture added a new dimension to their adventure.
As they prepared to engage the next cluster of monsters, both felt a renewed sense of purpose.
The next closest cluster of monsters sprawled across a natural clearing roughly thirty meters ahead, a chaotic mix of massive brown bears with earth-crusted claws, translucent green nature slimes pulsing with energy, and deceptively agile horned rabbits.
The bears stood nearly two meters tall even on all fours, their thick fur matted with dirt.
Mitch’s tactical mind immediately identified the priority targets. He drew upon his mana reserves, feeling the familiar cool sensation as magical energy coalesced in his palms, and sent a rapid volley of crackling blue mana balls toward each of the nature slimes.
His experience with these creatures had taught him a harsh lesson, their root spell could burst from seemingly solid ground without warning, creating piercing roots that could impale the unwary.
The spheres of concentrated magical force streaked through the air.
The explosive impacts found their marks on three of the five slimes, their gelatinous bodies rupturing in sprays of green fluid that hissed against the forest floor.
However, his tactical advantage crumbled when one of the massive bears, its eyes glowing with earthy amber light, slammed its forepaws against the ground.
A wall of packed earth and stone erupted from beneath the forest floor with grinding force, intercepting his remaining mana balls in showers of dirt and magical sparks.
"Fuck!" Mitch’s curse echoed through the clearing as frustration flashed across his battle-hardened features.
The coordinated defense completely destroyed his strategy, what should have been a swift elimination of the most dangerous threats had become a prolonged engagement where every second increased their peril.
Leya’s enhanced senses couldn’t detect the mana signatures of the root attacks that began manifesting from the earth beneath their feet, but her years of combat experience and hight body stat served her well.
Her body moved with fluid grace as she twisted away from the first gnarled root that burst from the ground where she’d been standing mere moments before, the appendage struck empty air with bone-crushing force.
With only two nature slimes remaining active behind their earthen barrier, the root attacks became more manageable, sporadic rather than the overwhelming assault Mitch had feared.
The defensive wall, though cracked and crumbling from his initial magical assault, still provided enough cover for the slimes to coordinate their attacks.
Before Mitch could formulate his next move, another earth wall materialized with the same grinding rumble, fresh soil cascading down its surface as it sprang up to shield the surviving slimes.
Mitch shifted tactics, launching a mana ball directly at the nearest bear. The magical projectile streaked toward its target, only to be stopped cold by an earth pillar that jutted from the ground with perfect timing.
Recognizing that ranged attacks were being systematically countered, Mitch made a split-second decision.
He surged forward in a dash, his enhanced reflexes carrying him across the terrain in seconds.
As he moved, he channeled his most devastating close-combat technique, his sword began to drink in light itself, the blade transforming to an absolute void that seemed to devour the very air around it. The space aura blade hummed with contained destruction.
The bear, sensing the approaching threat through its survival instincts, guided its magic, manifested another protective wall directly in Mitch’s path. An earth wall sprang from the ground in a desperate attempt to stop the attack.
It was utterly useless.
The blade cleaved through the earthen barrier, the magical energies that bound the wall simply ceasing to exist where the weapon passed.
The bear’s massive head, easily the size of Mitch’s torso, offered no more resistance than the wall had.
The space-infused blade parted flesh, bone, and brain matter with horrifying ease. The creature’s enormous body crashed to the forest floor with a ground-shaking impact.
The second bear, driven by pack loyalty or simple survival instinct, immediately counterattacked.
