Chapter 86: The underground facility in country O
The following morning, sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room as Haeun and Yeongsoo lay in a tangled, comfortable mess of limbs and blankets. Yeongsoo was just starting to drift back to sleep when his phone vibrated insistently on the nightstand. Groaning, he reached over, squinting at the screen to see Sean’s name flashing.
With a sigh, he answered, trying to keep his voice low so as not to wake Haeun. "Morning, Sean?" he mumbled, still half-asleep.
"Morning? Yeong, it’s already ten. Wake up and get over to Black Rose," Sean’s voice was urgent, his tone uncharacteristically tense. "I need you here, now."
Yeongsoo blinked, forcing himself fully awake. "What’s going on?"
"I can’t say over the phone, just trust me and hurry. You’ll understand when you get here," Sean replied before hanging up abruptly.
Frowning, Yeongsoo placed his phone back down and glanced over at Haeun, who was still fast asleep, nestled under the blankets with a peaceful look on his face. He hated to leave Haeun after such a comforting time, but Sean’s tone left little to no room for delay.
Yeongsoo carefully slipped out of bed, grabbing some clothes and heading to the bathroom to freshen up. A few minutes later, he was dressed and ready, casting one last look at Haeun as he closed the bedroom door softly behind him.
When he arrived at Black Rose, Sean was waiting outside, his expression tight. He didn’t waste a second, grabbing Yeongsoo by the arm and leading him through the dimly lit lounge area, past patrons and staff, until they reached a secluded VIP room at the back.
Inside, Sean shut the door, glancing around to make sure no one else was listening. "There’s something you need to know," he said, his voice low. "Bai Youran showed up last night, asking a lot of questions—about you, about Haeun."
Yeongsoo’s jaw clenched at the mention of Bai Youran. "What does he want now?"
"Money, leverage, who knows?" Sean shrugged. "But he was way too interested in your personal life. He even tried to slip some cash to one of the bartenders to get information."
Yeongsoo’s mind raced, his protective instincts kicking in. "So he’s snooping around for dirt, hoping to dig something up?"
"Exactly," Sean confirmed, crossing his arms. "And if he’s this persistent, he might try to escalate things. You need to be careful—especially with Haeun."
Yeongsoo nodded, a newfound determination hardening his gaze. "I’ll deal with him myself. Make sure he can’t touch Haeun or Suho."
Sean placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "I figured you’d say that. Just be careful, Yeong. He’s slippery."
Yeongsoo managed a faint smile. "Thanks, Sean. I owe you one."
As Yeongsoo closed the door behind him, his phone rang. Seeing Sean’s name flash on the screen, he answered right away.
"Yeongsoo," Sean said, his voice tense. "Just thought you should know, the mission took an unexpected turn. We’ve got more resistance than we anticipated."
Yeongsoo’s brows furrowed. "How serious?"
"Serious enough that it’s... complicated now," Sean replied carefully. "I’m handling it, but things are dicey. Figured you’d want to know."
Yeongsoo was silent for a moment, assessing the implications. If Sean was reaching out, things must be getting messy. And though Sean hadn’t asked him to come, he could hear the unspoken challenge in his voice—a challenge only someone like Yeongsoo would pick up on.
"Got it," he said, his voice steady. "I’ll be there."
Yeongsoo checked his watch—three hours had passed since he and Sean had first spoken, and if Sean was calling again, things must be escalating quickly. Sean was stationed in an underground facility in Country O, and with the way things were looking, it seemed Yeongsoo’s presence would be needed sooner rather than later.
He took a steadying breath. He had to tell Haeun about the sudden trip before he left. Heading to the bedroom, he found Haeun already in bed, dozing off after their long day. Guilt tugged at him for disturbing the peace they’d finally settled into.
Gently, he reached out and shook Haeun’s shoulder. "Haeun, wake up," he murmured softly.
Haeun’s eyes fluttered open, blinking at him sleepily. "What is it?" he mumbled, his voice thick with drowsiness. "Everything okay?"
"Something’s come up," Yeongsoo said, keeping his voice low. "I have to go overseas for a bit. Just for a couple of days, max."
Haeun frowned, sitting up a little, the sleep clearing from his eyes. "Now? Is it that serious?"
"Yeah, it’s urgent. Sean called, and he’s dealing with something that needs backup," Yeongsoo explained, brushing a hand through his hair. "I didn’t want to leave without telling you."
Haeun sighed, rubbing his face. "You’re really going?"
Yeongsoo nodded, giving Haeun a reassuring look. "I’ll be back before you know it. Just take care of Suho and don’t worry. I’ll leave lots of backup and don’t leave the house if you can. My pheromones are everywhere that should be enough for a couple of days."
Haeun reached for his hand, squeezing it tightly. "Alright. Just... be careful, okay?"
"I will," Yeongsoo promised, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to Haeun’s forehead. "Get some rest. I’ll text you when I land."
"Okay.."
But Haeun still followed Yeongsoo to the door unable to just let him go like that.
He remembered Yeongsoo saying that he was a behind the scenes man so why did he have to leave?
"Please come back..." Haeun said as Yeongsoo bit his lips pulling Haeun into a tight hug.
"I promise I will. Please take care of our baby and yourself and if anything happens don’t forget to inform me.."
"..."
Haeun sighed inwardly it wasn’t like he was going to appear even if he was informed, it would only make him anxious and lose focus on his own mission there.
"Sure I will.."
Yeongsoo gave Haeun a soft kiss before leaving. Wishing he could take Haeun along but he knew all too well how bad of an idea that was.
