Chapter 68: I’ll just pretend I didn’t see anything
Yeongsoo blinked, momentarily taken aback by Haeun’s words. His heart fluttered at the unexpected confession, and for a split second, he wasn’t sure if Haeun was being serious or trying to make him flustered. But the look in Haeun’s eyes, the quiet sincerity there, made it clear.
A soft, boyish grin spread across Yeongsoo’s face as he pushed his hair back. His grin growing wider. "I wasn’t expecting you to actually say it," he teased lightly, though his voice was tender. "You just made my heart skip a beat, Hyung."
Haeun rolled his eyes, though the hint of a smile tugged at his lips. "Enjoy it, that might be the last time you hear it."
"Ah," Yeongsoo murmured, and without another word, he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to Haeun’s temple. It was gentle at first, but then something shifted. Feeling an overwhelming rush of warmth, he suddenly started peppering Haeun’s face with playful kisses—his cheeks, his forehead, even the tip of his nose—each one filled with affection.
Haeun blinked, momentarily stunned by the onslaught. "Wha—stop! What are you doing? We’re in the hospital" He half-heartedly tried to push Yeongsoo away, his voice more flustered than annoyed.
"I’m giving you the thousand kisses I promised," Yeongsoo replied, his grin wide as he kept planting kisses, his movements light and playful. "You started it, remember?"
Haeun could feel his face heating up, the embarrassment creeping in as he tried to keep his composure. "That’s not what I meant, and you know it," he muttered, though the faint smile on his lips betrayed his protest.
Just as Yeongsoo was about to kiss him again, the door to the room swung open.
"Ah, I see you’re feeling better," Dr. Choi’s voice rang out, cutting through the moment. Both of them froze instantly, Yeongsoo still hovering over Haeun, his face inches away from his.
Haeun’s eyes widened in shock, and his entire body tensed as he slowly turned to look at the doctor, mortification quickly setting in.
Dr. Choi raised an eyebrow, glancing between the two of them with a knowing look. "Well, I guess that’s one way to recover quickly," he commented dryly.
Yeongsoo, completely unbothered, slowly sat back up with a sheepish smile. "Ah, Dr. Choi’s... timing could’ve been better," he said, scratching the back of his head.
Haeun, on the other hand, wanted a hole to appear ans swallow him whole. "Uncle Choi, this isnt what it looks like," he mumbled, as he used the bed sheets to cover his face.
Dr. Choi gave them both a small smile, clearly amused. "No need to explain, I’ll just pretend I didn’t see anything," he said, flipping through the chart in his hands. "But do try to keep the excitement to a minimum, alright? We don’t want to overdo it."
"Yes" Haeun blushed as nodded still using the bed sheets to cover his face.
Dr. Choi, still wearing that knowing smile, took a seat by the bedside, his demeanor shifting to something more serious as he glanced down at the chart in his hands. He cleared his throat, signaling that the playful moment was officially over.
"Alright, let’s talk about what comes next," he began, looking up from the papers to meet their eyes. "Haeun, you’re recovering, but you’re not out of the woods just yet. Your fever just broke, which is a good sign, but your body’s been under a lot of stress, and your immune system is still compromised."
Haeun shifted slightly under the sheets, his embarrassment fading as he focused on the doctor’s words. "I’m feeling better though...does that mean I can leave soon?"
Dr. Choi gave a small nod. "We’re hoping to discharge you within a few days, but only if your vitals remain stable. Even after you’re released, you’ll need to be careful. No overexerting yourself, and we’ll need to monitor your health closely. You’ll also need plenty of rest."
Yeongsoo frowned, glancing at Haeun. "What does ’careful’ mean exactly?"
"It means taking it easy," Dr. Choi said, his tone firm. "No stress, no heavy lifting, and no skipping meals. We’ll arrange follow-up appointments to ensure there aren’t any complications."
Haeun sighed, sinking back against the pillows. "I can do that," he muttered, though his tone suggested he wasn’t thrilled about the idea of being confined to rest.
Dr. Choi’s gaze softened. "Look, I know it’s frustrating, but you’ve been through a lot, and your body needs time to recover. You can’t rush it." He paused for a moment, flipping through a few more pages before continuing. "Now, I also need to address the pregnancy. Given the state of your health, we’ll have to be extra cautious moving forward."
Haeun stiffened slightly at the mention of the pregnancy, while Yeongsoo’s expression grew more serious.
"What do you mean by cautious?" Haeun asked quietly, his voice just above a whisper.
"The pregnancy puts additional strain on your body, especially given your current condition," Dr. Choi explained. "We need to ensure that both you and the baby remain healthy. That means regular check-ups, and you’ll need to be vigilant about any signs of discomfort or unusual symptoms. We’ll be monitoring your hormone levels as well."
Haeun swallowed hard, the weight of the situation settling in. He knew things were serious, but hearing it laid out so plainly made it feel more real.
"And if something goes wrong?" Haeun asked, his voice steady but his eyes betraying his worry.
"We’ll be keeping a close eye on everything to make sure nothing does," Dr. Choi reassured him. "But you have to take care of yourself, Haeun. That’s the most important thing right now. If you don’t, it could affect both you and the baby."
The room fell into a heavy silence, and Haeun glanced at Yeongsoo, who was listening intently, his brow furrowed in concern.
"I’ll make sure he takes care of himself," Yeongsoo said quietly, squeezing Haeun’s hand. "I won’t let anything happen to either of them."
Dr. Choi nodded, seeming satisfied with the response. "That’s good to hear. You both need to work together on this. Support is crucial, especially in a situation like this."
