Chapter 44: who is snow
Haeun glanced over at Yeongsoo, curiosity sparkling in his eyes. "So, do you game at all? What kind of games do you play?"
Yeongsoo shrugged, leaning casually against the doorframe. "Not really. The last time I gamed was back in college with a friend. We played a racing simulation, but that was ages ago. I’ve been too busy to keep up with anything since then."
"Busy, huh?" Haeun raised an eyebrow, sensing there was more to that story but letting it slide. "We should play a game together!"
"Yeah? What do you have in mind?" Yeongsoo asked, crossing his arms, intrigued.
Haeun grinned widely. "We can’t play Edge of the Shadows since it’s still in beta, but how about When World Ends? It’s another fun fantasy game that’s fully released!"
"When World Ends?" Yeongsoo echoed, a hint of interest in his voice. "What’s it about?"
"It’s all about surviving in a world where you build your own faction, gather resources, and battle against zombies and other npcs. It has great mechanics, and the storyline is really engaging!" Haeun explained, his excitement infectious. "I think you’d enjoy it."
Yeongsoo chuckled softly. "You’re really passionate about gaming, huh? I’d be a bit out of my element, but it sounds interesting."
"Don’t worry! I’ll teach you the basics, and I’m a top scorer in the game so I know all the tips," Haeun assured him, his eyes bright with enthusiasm. "It’ll be fun! Plus, it could be a good way for you to unwind."
"Alright, I’m game," Yeongsoo replied, a smirk playing on his lips. "But you’re going to have go easy on me, I’m a complete noob"
"Deal! it’s all about having a good time," Haeun said, feeling a wave of warmth at the thought of sharing this experience with Yeongsoo.
"Why don’t you change out of your clothes and into something comfy? I’ll set up the game before you get back.."
"Alright, I’ll be right back.."
Haeun quickly launched When World Ends, his fingers flying over the keyboard as he navigated the menu. He created a new game session and set it to allow Yeongsoo to join. As the game loaded, he couldn’t help but think about how much he was looking forward to sharing this experience with him.
Moments later, Yeongsoo returned, now dressed in a casual t-shirt and sweatpants, looking much more relaxed. "What do you think? Is this comfortable enough?" he asked, a hint of amusement in his eyes.
"Definitely!" Haeun joked, gesturing to the chair next to him. "Come sit here."
Yeongsoo settled into the chair, glancing around at the colorful graphics and dynamic interface. "So, what do I do first?"
"First, you need to create your character," Haeun said, leaning closer to explain. "You can customize everything—appearance, skills, even your faction name."
Yeongsoo nodded, taking it all in as he began to click through the options. Haeun watched him, eager to help. "Choose something that fits your style. You can even be a warrior or a strategist!"
"Alright, let’s see..." Yeongsoo said thoughtfully, scrolling through the customization options. "What about this? I’ll go for a warrior type."
"Good choice! Warriors have strong combat abilities," Haeun encouraged. "What will you name your character?"
"Hmm... how about ’Ysoo27? Sounds tough, right?" Yeongsoo suggested with a smirk.
"Not bad! But how about something a bit more unique?" Haeun said playfully. "You could try something like ’Snow’ to suit your vibe."
Yeongsoo chuckled. "Fine, I’ll go with Snow
. Now what?"Yeongsoo lips couldn’t help but twitch slight, being cold fitted his vibe??
"Now we’ll team up," Haeun said, his excitement palpable. "I’ll show you the ropes, and we’ll tackle some early missions together. You can’t join a fraction until you meet the 1000xp goal, a few missions and you’ll get it."
As Yeongsoo accepted the character and joined Haeun’s session, Haeun couldn’t shake off the feeling of warmth at having him there. "Okay, let’s go!" Haeun said, guiding him through the initial tutorials. "Just follow my lead, and you’ll be a pro in no time."
Yeongsoo grinned, his competitive spirit ignited. "Alright, I’ll do my best. Let’s see if I can beat you!"
Haeun laughed, a feeling of camaraderie building between them. "Good luck with that! I’ll show you why I’m a top scorer!"
Haeun turned serious as he explained the mission to Yeongsoo "The mission is a relatively easy one, we have a victim to rescue somewhere in this building, the light will turn green when we get close or head in the victim’s direction and it will also turn red when the zombies are approaching. Our goal is to rescue the victim while killing as many zombies as we possibly can."
Yeongsoo nodded soaking up the information, before asking a question "And what happens if we lose?"
"..."
"Nothing because I don’t lose"
"...Alright, let’s do this...I’ll just follow your lead, when you’ve explained it, it seems easy enough.."
Haeun nodded and pressed play, but before he could even get the chance to move his screen was filled with messages.
"OMG, XxNeXus, are you back for good?"
"We missed seeing your name on the leaderboards!"
"You left right when things were getting intense!"
"Still the top scorer? Or has someone dethroned you?"
"XxNeXus, is it true you’re beta testing a new game? called Edge of the Shadows?"
Haeun glanced over at Yeongsoo, half-exasperated, half-amused. "They’re relentless."
"They really want to know where you’ve been huh?" Yeongsoo remarked, scrolling through the endless questions. "Do you usually get this kind of attention?"
"Yes, more when I come back after a break like this" Haeun said, typing a quick response to the chat.
"Focus on the game, guys. We’re here to kill zombies, not reminisce."
But the messages didn’t stop:
"Is your partner new to the game?"
"Who’s that ’Snow’ character with you?"
"Is he any good or are you just babysitting?"
"Who even is Snow? Doesn’t ring a bell."
Haeun sighed, looking at Yeongsoo. "Looks like they’re curious about you now."
"Great," Yeongsoo muttered, shaking his head. "If they’re curious then why don’t we give them something to talk about.."
Haeun grinned, glancing back at the chat. "Just ignore them. You’re doing fine for a newbie." Then, he responded to the group:
"Snow’s with me. We’re just here to play, no questions."
