Chapter 31: We all have our own way of adulting
"It’s not your fault, I only just woke up a while ago.."
Yeongsoo placed the bowl of cold noodles in front of Haeun with a gentle smile, his voice soft but teasing as he said, "Here you go, for my big baby and for my small baby."
Haeun’s face flushed a deep red, his eyes widening at the words. He looked up at Yeongsoo, who was standing there with a slightly mischievous glint in his eyes. Embarrassment and warmth rushed through Haeun, and he quickly dropped his gaze back to the noodles, his heart pounding in his chest.
"Y-Your big baby?" he stammered, feeling the heat rise to his cheeks.
"Mm-hmm," Yeongsoo hummed, clearly enjoying Haeun’s reaction as he leaned against the counter, crossing his arms. "Yes my big crybaby and my cute little baby."
Haeun bit his lip, his shyness intensifying as he picked up his chopsticks, trying to focus on the noodles in front of him instead of the way his heart was racing. He couldn’t deny how those simple words affected him, making him feel both flustered and oddly secure.
He glanced up shyly at Yeongsoo, who was still watching him with that playful smirk, and muttered, "You’re... impossible."
Yeongsoo chuckled softly, the sound warm and soothing, as he reached out to ruffle Haeun’s hair gently. "Just eat, okay? You and the baby need your strength."
Haeun pouted between bites, his chopsticks pausing mid-air as he mumbled, "Don’t treat me like a little kid. I’m 27 years old, you know. I’m not a crybaby. It’s just... pregnancy hits you in the funniest ways."
Yeongsoo raised an eyebrow, clearly amused, and leaned in a bit closer. "Wait, you’re older than me?" he asked with a teasing chuckle, his eyes lighting up mischievously. "You’re this old?"
Haeun shot him a glare, his cheeks puffing out slightly in annoyance. "Yes, I’m older than you, and I’d appreciate it if you didn’t sound so shocked."
Yeongsoo laughed, the sound rich and unguarded as he leaned back against the counter, clearly enjoying Haeun’s indignant expression. "I dunno, Haeun. For someone who’s this old, you sure do cry a lot." He gestured playfully toward the room where Haeun had been sobbing just minutes ago.
Haeun’s face flushed again, his ears burning as he tried to come up with a retort, but all he could do was mutter under his breath. "It’s the pregnancy, I swear. It messes with everything."
"I’m sure it does," Yeongsoo said with a smirk, before adding, in a softer tone, "But don’t worry. You can cry as much as you want. Whether you’re 27 or not, it’s fine with me, crybabies are the cutest"
Haeun smirked, a playful glint in his eyes as he leaned against the counter. "So, you should call me hyung I’m older by three years, you know."
Yeongsoo paused, then shot back, his expression serious. "...Not going to happen."
Haeun burst into laughter, the sound light and infectious, breaking the tension that had settled around them. "How can you look this young? You could say you were 21, and I’d totally believe you!"
Yeongsoo crossed his arms, a bemused smile creeping onto his face. "That’s rich coming from someone who just sobbed for an hour over cold noodles."
Haeun giggled, feeling a spark of mischief. "Well, you know the saying: ’You’re only as old as you feel!’ And right now, I feel like a majestic whale in need of snacks!"
Yeongsoo leaned closer, a teasing glint in his eye. "A whale? But why do you look like a cute little kid right now? You know those types that look like they’re about to burst into tears when you don’t let them have their sweets"
"....."
Haeun pointed his chopsticks at Yeongsoo, mock serious. "Just because I’m pregnant doesn’t mean you can treat me like a kid! I’m a 27-year-old man!"
Yeongsoo raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. "Sure, hyung , So what’s next? Throwing tantrums when you don’t get your way? You already know how to run away"
"..."
"Who said I run away? I merely go to a quiet place to think of the best possible way to solve my problems!" Haeun shot back, grinning widely.
Yeongsoo chuckled, shaking his head. "I’m starting to think you’ve got the wrong idea about adulthood."
"Hey! We all have our own way of Adulting" Haeun said, bouncing on his feet, the playful banter lifting his spirits.
"..."
"Haha okay" Yeongsoo answered as he cleaned the counter.
As Yeongsoo finished cleaning up after dinner, he glanced over at Haeun, who was still sitting comfortably on the couch, rubbing his belly. "How about we watch a movie?" he suggested casually, drying his hands with a towel.
Haeun perked up, his face lighting up with interest. "A movie sounds good," he agreed with a small smile. "But we’re going to need snacks."
Yeongsoo chuckled, already reaching for his phone to order. "Of course. What kind of snacks are we talking about?"
Haeun thought for a moment, tapping his fingers on his chin. "Hmm... Let’s get some Lo Mein," he said with certainty. "But it has to be the kind with extra vegetables and a little bit of spice. Oh! And don’t forget the sweet and sour pork on the side."
"Lo Mein with a twist, got it," Yeongsoo nodded, scrolling through his phone to place the order. "Anything else?"
Haeun’s eyes gleamed as he listed off his cravings, "Some of those honey butter chips, a couple of ice cream sandwiches, and—oh! Get the chocolate-covered almonds too. The baby wants those."
Yeongsoo smirked, raising an eyebrow. "The baby, huh?"
Haeun nodded seriously, though there was a playful glint in his eyes. "Yep. The baby has very specific tastes, you know."
"Of course," Yeongsoo replied with an amused chuckle as he finished placing the order. "Lo Mein, sweet and sour pork, honey butter chips, ice cream sandwiches, and chocolate-covered almonds... Coming right up. Anything else for the "baby"?"
Haeun grinned. "Nope, that should do it."
As they waited for the food to arrive, Yeongsoo sat down next to Haeun, tossing him the remote. "Alright, what are we watching?"
Haeun scrolled through the movie options, humming thoughtfully. "Hmm, let’s see... Maybe we should do horror tonight?"
"Horror?" Yeongsoo raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised. "Are you sure about that?"
Haeun nodded confidently, his lips curving into a mischievous smile. "Yeah! It’ll be fun. I can handle it."
Yeongsoo eyed him skeptically but said nothing as Haeun picked out a horror movie.
Ding!
Yeongsoo raised his phone as he sighed as the notification bar.
Sorry esteemed customer, your order could not be carried out due to mechanical issues and your payment has been refunded.
Ding!
Another notification came, signifying that his money had been refunded.
Yeongsoo sighed and stood up walking to the counter to grab his car keys.
"Where are you headed?.."
Haeun asked quickly standing up as he stared at Yeongsoo.
"The order got cancelled, I’m gonna get to the convenience store and get it myself.."
