Chapter 547 - 101
Chapter 547: Chapter 101
After checking on the wards, Dr. Fan Shulin returned to his duty office, leaning back in his chair and stretching mightily.
"Ah~ I’m so tired."
Last night’s class reunion ended, followed by a small catch-up with the two classmates he was closest with. They planned to chat briefly before going home, but one of them suddenly teared up talking about their relationship woes, leaving him and the other friend no choice but to listen and offer advice.
The three of them talked until dawn, leaving him feeling utterly drained for his night shift.
Dr. Fan Shulin pulled out the bottom drawer of his desk, lifted the newspaper on top, and took out an eye-catching magazine.
As he read,
Hmm,
He felt revitalized.
"Knock knock knock!"
A knock on the door sounded.
"Coming!"
Dr. Fan Shulin opened the door, and was momentarily taken aback by the visitor, then almost instinctively, his gaze drifted to who was behind them, sure enough, someone was being carried!
God damn it, this is just a medical office, not People’s Hospital or the provincial hospital.
"Brother Fan, you’re on night shift again, looks like your leaders really value your training."
"Take him to a proper hospital, this is just the school clinic!"
"Don’t be like that, Brother Fan, with your miraculous healing hands, the modern Hua Tuo, for simple headaches or fevers, of course, we’d come to you."
"When have you ever brought me someone with just a headache or fever?"
"His head’s been injured, and he has a fever too."
"If something goes wrong in treatment, I can’t take the responsibility."
"Brother Fan, you’re really being too modest."
Dr. Fan Shulin sighed; he knew he couldn’t argue with this guy, he had failed the last two times, and this time, he barely felt like struggling.
"Go next door."
"Sure thing."
Lin Shuyou was laid on the surgical table by Tan Wenbin, and Dr. Fan Shulin began treating the wound.
The first time he was nervous, the second time anxious, but this time, he actually felt quite calm.
Mainly because the guys brought by him, could really take it; such severe injuries, yet after treatment, they’d visibly recover the next day and be up walking in three.
Dr. Fan Shulin:"How many gangs are at our school now?"
Tan Wenbin:"Oh, quite a few, otherwise we wouldn’t have these frequent fights."
"Then your gang’s not doing well, eh? Always getting such serious injuries and being rushed to the clinic, the other gangs don’t seem to have this issue."
"That’s because they don’t make it here needing treatment."
"So your gang is brutal, huh."
"That’s right, every time our boss leads us out, it’s with the mindset to annihilate."
Dr. Fan Shulin laughed, thinking he just made an interesting joke.
Tan Wenbin also smiled.
After treating the wound, Tan Wenbin pushed Lin Shuyou into a hospital room.
As Dr. Fan Shulin was setting up the IV, Tan Wenbin pulled out money and put it in Dr. Fan Shulin’s coat, then gently patted it.
"Hard work, Brother Fan."
"Call me anytime, day or night."
The young doctor always felt nervous and awkward receiving red packets, sometimes even blathering.
After the doctor left, Tan Wenbin observed Lin Shuyou’s condition closely, seeing his complexion returning to healthiness, he relaxed and leaned back in the accompanying chair to sleep.
He dreamt that he was standing by the river, continuously skipping stones, the riverside piled with too many stones, never running out.
Not knowing how long he had been at it, Tan Wenbin woke up, glanced at the wall clock in the hospital room, it was nine in the morning, he hadn’t slept long.
On the bedside, there were soy milk and dough sticks, a bit cold, but still edible.
Tan Wenbin knew these were from Dr. Fan at the end of his shift.
There was also a small bag of dates, likely from his stash in the duty office.
Just after breakfast, Tan Wenbin saw Lin Shuyou waking up, turning his head to look at him.
"I’m sorry, I..."
"Need to pee?"
Tan Wenbin bent down and pulled the spittoon from under the bed.
"No, I mean..."
"This injury’s even worse, yet you’re recovering faster than last time."
On hearing this, Lin Shuyou seemed to realize something, reached to lift his hospital gown, trying hard to look down.
"Hey hey hey, hold on, I’ll help you."
Tan Wenbin picked up the spittoon again.
"How can this be, why is the face mask whole?"
Tan Wenbin raised an eyebrow, catching the critical point: "Did you tear the face mask yourself?"
"Yeah."
"Why would you do that?"
"I applied to a college in Jinling, wanted to get far away from home."
"Having conflicts with family?"
"Not really, just some disagreements with my master, and my grandfather sides with him."
"How come you’ve never mentioned this before?"
"It’s not like we’re estranged, I still go home for winter break, so seemed unnecessary to mention."
"Oh."
Tan Wenbin took a date, bit into it, quite sweet.
"They always think I can’t grow up, wanting to control me.
When I left home for college, I deliberately broke the face mask in front of my master and grandfather, declared that I was grown up and didn’t need their oversight anymore.
Turns out I still had to rely on my family."
Tan Wenbin spoke earnestly: "With that head of yours, better to let your family look after you, otherwise out there, easy to get tricked and even help the trickster count the money."
"Brother Binbin, you always treat me well."
"Good, eat a date."
"Brother Binbin, last night when I passed out, it seemed like I heard you crying for me."
"Yeah, I thought you were dead, was mourning for you."
"Sorry to have upset you."
"Upset my ass, I was just going through the motions; if you died, you’d just be dead, no big deal."
"Bro, you’re right, if it’s for the cause of the Righteous, to die is glorious, you should be happy for me."
