Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Fitness Swimming and Barbecue Beer!
11:00 PM.
The last wave of customers at the barbecue stall had departed.
Jiang Feng stretched his shoulders a few times, feeling a bit sore.
Wasn’t it said that there wouldn’t be many customers?
They started at 4:30 PM. Initially, customers were sparse, but after 6:00 PM, the crowd poured in.
Many of them were walk-ins.
Jiang Feng had originally thought there wouldn’t be many customers, which was why he deliberately set up the barbecue stall outside to attract them.
He hadn’t expected so many to come.
Some people recognized Jiang Feng and greeted him enthusiastically.
Jiang Feng responded politely to all of them.
Hao Fei and his wife were calculating the evening’s takings.
All proceeds from the barbecue went to Jiang Feng, while Hao Fei kept the income from cold dishes and drinks.
Jiang Feng walked over, sat down, took a cold Coke from the fridge, opened it, took a sip, and then began examining the receipts as well.
"Boss Jiang, we’ve calculated the turnover. After deducting for drinks and cold dishes, your barbecue brought in 4,000 yuan tonight," Hao Fei announced. "This turnover is really high!" he added with sincere admiration.
Then, he remarked reflectively, "When I first saw you buying such high-quality meat, I thought you’d likely lose money. I was too shortsighted."
Through their interactions, Jiang Feng found Hao Fei to be a decent guy, not overly calculating.
Jiang Feng nodded. "My costs are indeed a bit high—over 1,500 yuan just for the meat."
"That’s not even counting spices, oil, water, and gas."
"But as long as I break even, it’s fine."
"Alright, I’m heading off. You two should get some rest soon," Jiang Feng said.
After checking the accounts himself and confirming everything was in order, Jiang Feng stood up and left.
Hao Fei and his wife watched Jiang Feng’s retreating figure and began to chat.
"How does his barbecue business do so well?"
"He even did well selling buns in the mountains. He was trained by a master chef and learned culinary arts from a young age. He knows how to cook everything. How could ordinary people compare?"
"Why don’t you learn from him?"
"Well, he’d have to be willing to teach," Hao Fei countered. "I wouldn’t want to upset him and have him just leave outright."
Hao Fei was too proud to ask directly, so after exchanging a few words, they locked up the shop and went home to rest.
「The next day」
Jiang Feng arrived early again, this time bringing Little Black with him.
The management of the outdoor barbecue stall wasn’t too strict, so Little Black could stay outside.
The little guy didn’t like to wander off; he preferred to sit by Jiang Feng’s side.
Hao Fei quite liked the small dog. Whenever he looked over, Little Black would be sitting quietly by Jiang Feng’s feet, like a little mascot for the barbecue stall.
The three of them started processing the purchased meat in the shop.
Jiang Feng personally sliced the beef and lamb, while Hao Fei and his wife handled skewering.
This way, Jiang Feng himself decided the size of the meat pieces. He also had a special slicing technique, cutting the meat diagonally into chunks to give them a larger surface area for grilling.
He had prepared a lot of meat for that day.
Hao Fei could also help with items like enoki mushrooms, chives, and steamed buns.
Hao Fei would occasionally observe Jiang Feng’s meat-cutting technique.
Even though these techniques were available online, watching them in real life felt completely different.
Jiang Feng’s knife skills were very steady, with no flashy moves. He’d just slide the knife back and forth a couple of times, and a chunk of meat would fall from the larger piece.
He cut hundreds, even thousands of pieces this way, each movement almost identical. Incredibly steady.
When afternoon arrived and it was time to open, Jiang Feng set up the grill, lit the charcoal, and waited for the flames to die down before starting to grill.
Business quickly picked up.
「Bucks Gym.」
Qin Wen panted as she got off the bench press.
Her arms were incredibly sore, and she felt completely drained of energy.
She had been pushing herself to the limit recently to lose weight and get fit.
She wasn’t fat, but definitely not skinny either. To achieve a good figure, she had hired the strictest coach for supervision.
Her recent diet had been quite effective.
"That’s enough training for today. Tonight, you can have a vegetable salad, but absolutely no high-sugar or high-fat foods," her coach instructed.
"Especially things like Coke and milk tea—those are off-limits."
"Okay, I’m leaving now," Qin Wen said, thanking him.
After showering in the locker room and getting dressed, she left the gym feeling refreshed.
Her body felt limp and weak, devoid of strength.
Yet, she felt truly invigorated and relieved of stress.
The process of exercising was painful, but afterward, she felt a satisfaction akin to a butterfly emerging from its cocoon.
It was this sensation that got many fitness enthusiasts hooked.
Qin Wen walked out of the office building, ready to hail a cab home.
She hadn’t gone far when suddenly, the aroma of barbecue smoke drifted into her nostrils.
The smell was incredibly enticing.
Instantly, her stomach started to growl.
A wave of hunger washed over her, and Qin Wen couldn’t help but swallow hard.
Two voices emerged in her mind:
The first voice: "No, no, you can’t eat." "You’ve worked so hard for so long; you have to keep going!"
The second voice: "A little bite won’t hurt. You can just work out a bit more later." "Just a tiny bit."
Qin Wen was torn. She looked towards the barbecue stall and saw Jiang Feng busily grilling.
Qin Wen recognized him.
It’s him, the stall owner, Executive Chef Jiang! It’s really him!
The moment she recognized Jiang Feng, that first voice vanished completely.
Jiang Feng was a very popular stall owner; there were always long lines for his food.
It wasn’t easy to get a taste of his snacks.
And now, Jiang Feng was right here.
Without hesitation, Qin Wen walked up to the stall.
Skewers of plump lamb, already cooked, sizzled on the grill, dripping with fat.
Jiang Feng grabbed some chili powder and cumin, sprinkling them over the skewers. The red spices dotted the golden-brown meat, making it look even more delicious.
Seeing such appetizing lamb skewers, Qin Wen couldn’t resist. "Boss, one lamb skewer, please."
"Coming right up." Jiang Feng had just finished grilling a batch.
He took out a few skewers and handed them to the customers waiting nearby.
Then he plated the remaining ones and delivered them to the seated customers.
Qin Wen received the grilled lamb skewer she had been craving.
As she walked away, she blew on the skewer to cool it.
Eating such a lamb skewer, sizzling with oil, during a critical phase of her diet felt practically sinful. If her coach saw this, he would undoubtedly give her an earful.
Qin Wen just wanted to finish it quickly.
Once the lamb skewer had cooled slightly, she took a large bite.
The moment the meat entered her mouth, a hot, wonderful sensation spread from her tongue throughout her body.
Her exhausted body seemed to spring back to life.
The texture of the meat was perfect.
Each chew released a burst of savory juice.
The simple seasoning of chili and cumin was incredibly satisfying.
Qin Wen, ignoring the heat, blew on the lamb skewer and devoured it in big bites.
She had been on a strict diet of low-fat meals and vegetable salads for so long.
Her body craved these nutrients.
Now, faced with actual meat, she had no resistance.
She devoured the lamb skewer in just a few bites.
The delicious lamb skewer left an unforgettable taste; it was utterly irresistible.
"So delicious!"
No wonder he’s so popular! It’s unbelievably good! What kind of life had she been living all this time? To think she’d missed out on such incredible food! Truly, delicious enough to make you cry!
Excitement flashed in Qin Wen’s eyes, and they even grew a little misty.
Qin Wen immediately turned around and went back to Jiang Feng’s stall.
"Boss, give me five more lamb skewers and five beef skewers."
"And a grilled steamed bun."
"To go, please."
Hearing her, Jiang Feng nodded. "Alright, just a moment," he replied.
He continued to grill the lamb and beef.
Even though many people came here to dance or work out, some would surely be tempted by barbecue.
Once a few people started eating, word would undoubtedly spread.
Soon, others would follow.
It was time to choose: gym workouts and swimming, or barbecue and beer.
