Chapter 74: Chapter 74 Delicious News Spread!
"Let me try your Kung Pao Chicken! Is it any good?"
"Get lost! Go eat a dick!"
"Fine by me."
"..."
A few male students sat at the dining table, heartily enjoying their meals while simultaneously coveting the food on each other’s plates. College boys are truly broke. Their living allowances were technically sufficient, but once expenses like gaming, girlfriends, and new shoes were factored in, it was never enough. Having two dishes for dinner tonight was already a luxury.
Everyone believed the dish they had chosen was the most delicious. Yet, seeing how much others were relishing their food, every other dish looked equally tempting, sparking their desire. The rascals, one by one, shoveled down their own food while eyeing others’ plates. One guy, who usually ate slowly, noticed several pairs of eyes fixed on the Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce on his plate. In a moment of panic, he stuck out his tongue and licked the pork twice.
"Damn!"
"That’s against the rules of war!" the other two protested.
Initially, they devoured their food in large mouthfuls. When little meat remained, they would pick up a piece and rub it all over their rice, ensuring every grain absorbed the savory aroma. Eating the rice this way extended the deliciousness a little longer. The last few bites were truly hard to part with. But because it was so incredibly tasty, they still scraped their plates clean, however reluctantly.
"So satisfying!"
"This new stall is amazing!"
"This is our spot from now on!"
After eating their fill, they finished the complimentary egg drop soup in their bowls. Then, they carried their empty trays and small bowls to the collection area.
After dinner was their joyful time for team gaming. College life was probably just like this.
The line in front of the stall kept growing longer. Jiang Feng busied himself stir-frying several more dishes to replenish the rapidly emptying serving trays. The college students in line craned their necks, their faces alight with anticipation. In that moment, these future pillars of society were utterly captivated by the aroma of Jiang Feng’s cooking.
Jiang Feng pushed out the food truck.
"Boss, the Stir-fried Ham and Eggs are sold out again," the cafeteria lady immediately reported to Jiang Feng.
"Ah? Sold out again?"
"That was two large trays, and still not enough."
"Okay, I’ll fry up another batch."
Jiang Feng was slightly surprised. Stir-fried Ham and Eggs were the simplest to make, but they sold the best because they smelled so incredibly good. Jiang Feng had perfect control over the scrambled eggs, the ingredient ratios were spot on, and the ham sausage released its irresistible aroma the moment it hit the wok. All these elements combined to create an enticingly delicious dish of Stir-fried Ham and Eggs.
Jiang Feng quickly returned to the kitchen and increased his cooking speed. The method for Stir-fried Ham and Eggs was simple: heat oil in a wok, fry sliced ham until fragrant and set it aside, then add chopped green onions and beaten eggs to stir-fry, and finally, add the ham back in. No pre-marinating, no stuffing preparation, no blanching, and no additional simmering required. Just pure stir-frying.
Soon, Jiang Feng had cooked another large wokful of ham and eggs. He poured the Stir-fried Ham and Eggs from the wok into a serving tray and pushed the food truck out again.
The starving students, eyes burning with hunger, watched eagerly. The "stock" at the cafeteria lady’s station was running low, desperately needing an "ammunition" resupply. Seeing Jiang Feng approach, she heaved a sigh of relief.
"Boss, we need more. There are still a lot of people," the cafeteria lady said. "The Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce and Sweet and Sour Pork Fillet are all gone."
Jiang Feng glanced at the serving trays. Only small amounts of Kung Pao Chicken and Braised Chicken remained. The other trays were practically licked clean.
Keep in mind, this was Jiang Feng’s first day opening a stall in the University of Science and Technology’s cafeteria, and business was almost unbelievably good. Actually, it made sense. Self-serve meals were already popular. Besides, with only two cafeterias in the university and the second one not having much to offer, people naturally followed suit when they saw others lining up. Plus, those who had eaten at the stall during lunchtime couldn’t stop thinking about Jiang Feng’s food. They also enthusiastically recommended it to others, so the line grew longer and longer.
After a while, every last bit of food in the serving trays had been dished out.
The cafeteria lady announced to the students in line, "Students, there’s no more food! No need to line up anymore!"
"What? It’s all gone?" Disbelief was written all over one student’s face.
Gone? Just like that?
But the empty serving trays before him told the undeniable truth; apart from some leftover sauce, there was absolutely nothing left.
"Alright then," the student said, leaving reluctantly.
The people behind him witnessed this scene, their faces etched with helplessness.
"Can’t believe I was too late! I heard this new stall is super delicious!"
"Business is booming!"
"I’ll come earlier tomorrow."
People dispersed, heading to other stalls to find something else to eat.
Jiang Feng quickly cleaned up his stove and then left the university.
Running a stall at the university felt quite nice. The students were young and vibrant, and the more he interacted with them, the younger he felt in spirit.
At night on campus, some students ran on the sports field to exercise, while others headed to the library for late-night study sessions. Many were gaming in their dorms, and some couples took hand-in-hand strolls around campus.
On the path to the library, several girls who had just finished studying ambled along the tree-lined walkway, chatting about gossip and amusing incidents.
"That new stall in the second cafeteria today was seriously super delicious!" one girl exclaimed, her expression full of longing.
Ji Mingming, who was with them, chuckled and said, "Haven’t you guys seen that owner online? He used to have a food stall outside, and it was really popular too."
Hearing this, the other girls’ interest was instantly piqued.
"Popular online?"
"Is he like a minor internet celebrity?"
"Really? Tell us more!"
So, Ji Mingming told them all about what was online. Only then did they realize that the owner of this new stall was such a formidable figure.
Well, that explained it.
While the girls chatted idly, the atmosphere among the boys was far more enthusiastic. Jiang Feng’s identity was quickly recognized. University students were definitely interested in online happenings.
"Holy cow, he’s that street food stall owner! I’ve seen him online!"
"I remember! The super popular braised meat from the food street, right? I’m sure I’ve scrolled past his videos!"
"Later, he went to the mountains to sell steamed buns. I thought this owner was such an odd character, fascinating really. I never expected him to come to our university this time."
"The food is genuinely amazing, and the guy’s handsome too."
"We need to get in line early tomorrow."
The guys chatted animatedly about it.
An internet-famous food stall. Not only could they enjoy exceptional food, but they could also complete the "check-in at X location" achievement. For students, this was an irresistible attraction. Eating was always the top priority for university students.
In just one day, news of Jiang Feng’s stall had spread like wildfire throughout the University of Science and Technology. Some students even shared old videos of him from his street food days, including clips of him skillfully slicing noodles. It was only then that the students fully understood: this guy was a big shot.
A master chef had come to the university’s second cafeteria—a true professional chef.
For some reason, upon hearing this news, a thrill of anticipation surged through many of them. Subconsciously, they already had a premonition of what was to come.
Tomorrow, the second cafeteria would undoubtedly be a warzone.
It would all come down to which professor dismissed their class a few minutes earlier. The sooner class ended, the better their chances of securing a coveted spot in the cafeteria.
「Later that night, in a male dormitory」
Four roommates were idly chatting.
"Tomorrow, the second cafeteria is going to be insane. We have to go early; it’s gonna be a fight for food."
"Maybe we should skip the last class to get there earlier."
"I’m a bit worried. The freshmen just started their military training and have been eating at the first cafeteria every day. If the freshmen also come to the second cafeteria..."
At this, a wave of anxiety washed over them. If the freshmen came over, their vast, hungry horde would be like a swarm of locusts, leaving practically no good food behind in the cafeteria.
"Don’t worry, the news probably won’t reach them," one of them said reassuringly.
"Let’s hope so."
Jiang Feng’s delicious food had left a lasting impression on many. It was about to cause quite a stir on the university campus.
Meanwhile, Jiang Feng was quite content. He played with his dog for a bit before lying down on his bed to rest, soon falling soundly asleep.
