Contractually Yours: The Billionaire's Unlikely Bride -
Chapter 98: SEEKING HELP
Chapter 98: Chapter 98: SEEKING HELP
It was supposed to be a happy moment, but when the other three saw Briar’s expression turning sullen, they couldn’t help but feel worried, wondering what was on her mind.
George, being the only brother in this small group, asked worriedly, hoping that it had nothing to do with Logan.
"Dear, what’s wrong? Did you get wronged?" it was easy for Briar who held a lower position and title before to be bullied.
While the three of them could walk around with their heads held high, in people’s eyes Briar was a nanny, though her status was changing due to the fact that Logan had wedded her. However, it wasn’t everyone who knew that her status had changed. So, getting bullied wouldn’t be surprising, though it would be a joke if anyone truly managed to bully her.
She was the most vengeful of all of them.
Briar sighed dejectedly as she looked at George.
George was a police officer and a captain of Team 1 in the violent crimes division. He was known for his tenacity and boldness. There was never a case he had never sold. He rose in the ranks so quickly; he made so many people envy and hate him so much.
He had been in the force for six years and yet he achieved so much that other older officers had not.
George was their final net. If they ever get unfortunate to land themselves anywhere near the police station, George would be there to deal with such matters.
Considering how her secrets were all deadly and could lead her to the police station one way or the other, she needed him the most at this time.
And since he had volunteered, she wouldn’t stand on ceremony, but how could she easily spill the beans? So, she sighed repeatedly, looking conflicted about whether to say or not.
The other three, seeing her conflicted expression, started coaxing her into spilling the beans.
"Dear, if you have anything worrying you, share it. We will think hard together and find a way to solve it."
"If we can’t, then report everything to the group leader. There will always be a solution to everything."
When she heard that, she felt glad and guilty. However, considering the fact that she would be in hot soup any time from now on, she could only spill the beans and expose the greatest secret of her life that might have a loose end.
When she started speaking, the other three were quite stunned, as they weren’t expecting to hear of a story which happened over a decade ago. Briar should have been around thirteen when that matter happened.
When they continued to listen to the story, all their eyes were red, veins popping on their foreheads and arms. They were so angry and yet they could tell that she hadn’t even started to go deeper in the matter.
Briar narrated the story as if she wasn’t the person involved and, seeing how angry her friends were, she couldn’t help but feel better that she had shared this story with other people. Except for her brother, who only knew bits of the story and Mammy Adonai, she revealed everything because of that other matter. No one knew of this at all.
Telling these three meant that she trusted them enough. As for whether they would betray her and tell others about this matter, that would be impossible. They wouldn’t risk destroying the friendship of six years for such a secret like that.
It took a while for her to narrate the story and as she was finishing, she dejectedly said to them, "When I met my mammy, she told me that something might come up. I am not sure if this would come up or not, but if it does. Logan would know that I lied and everything had been a façade. I can’t risk it. On top of it all, I don’t even know who would dare come up with such a thing."
Not knowing her enemy drove her crazy and not knowing where the story would pop up from and which of the stories would be picked, Briar felt her head getting hotter with each passing second.
Briar expected some sort of response from the three, but she didn’t expect the other to suddenly hug her as they comforted.
"Dear, you have suffered!"
"Why didn’t you tell us sooner about that?"
"How could you keep that to yourself?"
Briar smiled wryly, feeling very guilty for being unable to trust her friends with that kind of secret when she had heard more of them in the years that they had been together.
"I ..... I thought that if I shared this, you might not like me anymore!" Briar sullenly responded as she recalled how disgusted she felt whenever she recalled the matters of back then.
When the other three heard that, they looked at her accusatorily and Bertha argued, ’Dear, do we look like that in your eyes?"
"No matter what happened to you, what kind of person you are, you will always be our Briar. Our youngest. We know you better than those people outside. So how could you say something like that about yourself?"
Briar wanted to bury her head like an ostrich. Her friends had always treated her better than themselves. She felt bad for doing that.
Seeing that she looked remorseful, they didn’t keep making things difficult for her.
"Now that the matter is at hand. What should we do now? Guys, let’s come up with solutions," George asked them, as his brows furrowed, thinking about the matter already.
Irene raised her hand as she answered, "For me, I think I should keep an eye out and see if there would be anyone searching for information about Briar. The internet is forever busy, as long as there is a trace, I can trace it to that person. I don’t believe that I can’t find something."
George looked at Briar and asked, "Do you still remember the place where you dealt with everything? Or the name of that person?"
Briar nodded and shook her head, making everyone confused, but she remedied that as she explained herself. "I don’t recall the place my brother would know of that. I might have to ask him. As for the person, I remember it," she answered him and uttered a name.
George took mental note of that.
Bertha added her suggestions, making the three gasps in awe.
"Bertha, this .... Are you sure that it will work?" Briar nervously asked as she looked at the other with a glimmer of hope.
Bertha smiled reassuringly as she waved her hand nonchalantly and said, "Don’t worry. It will work. As long as the matter erupts in the future whilst you are here, let’s do that. You just need to come to my hospital and the matter will be solved."
When Briar heard that, a calculative smile appeared on her face. "I think that this will work. I will just make sure that it leads to your side if it really reaches that point."
With such suggestions coming out, more ridiculous ones started coming out and the four friends took their time agreeing on one idea and arguing about the other.
At the end of the day, a rough plan had been made, taking into account any scenario that Briar might face.
Seeing this plan coming to life, Briar finally felt at ease. If it was her alone, she wouldn’t have thought this far, but thanks to her cunning friends, whatever problems she might face in the future, she wouldn’t need to panic but take things calmly.
Irene served everyone some food. They were all starving by now since they had been engrossed in planning earlier.
In the middle of eating, Briar received a call from Logan and she happily chatted with him for a while before the call ended.
After the meal, it was time to part. Briar still needed to pick up the kids at school later, Bertha had a date with her young boyfriend, George needed to rest since he would be returning to work tomorrow and lastly, Irene needed to work on Briar’s case before it was too late.
The four friends were forced to part early, but they weren’t despondent about it. There was still a lot of time to meet in person.
As they entered the cars, Irene called out to Briar. "Once the pill arrives, Bertha will give it to you!" reminding Briar about the matter of the pill.
Briar grinned foolishly at Irene and replied, "Sure. I will be waiting for it!" her eyes sparkling with anticipation of what was coming.
Irene waved goodbye to the three of them and watched smilingly as the two cars drove away from her villa.
Seeing the cars driving away, she chuckled lightly as she walked back into the house. However, when she thought of the trouble, that Briar might be facing, her eyes turned cold.
She had never known that the other suffered badly like that.
Now that she was there, she wasn’t going to let anyone harm Briar using the one thing she feared the most and ruin her life.
If she ever finds out the person who planned to ruin Briar, she was going to leave that person crippled and never rise again.
Thinking about that matter, Irene’s dissatisfaction with Logan rose.
If it wasn’t for that man, would her baby be feeling like that?
Love! It was indeed a deadly emotion.
