Chapter 81: Chapter 81: RECONCILIATION

"You have worked hard in the family and did all the best that you could, and I still accused you. For what I did, I am very sorry. If I had looked into the matter earlier, maybe you couldn’t have been hurt," Alice said apologetically as she looked at Briar.

Briar closed her eyes as certain memories flooded in her mind and she felt lonely for a moment. However, she didn’t remain like that for a long time as she opened her eyes after a while and looked at Alice with a faint smile on her face.

"You don’t need to apologize, actually. Some things take two to tango. It wasn’t just you in the wrong, but me as well. When I saw that, I should have put more effort into finding out why you treated me coldly like that. But I didn’t. As a result, it reached this point."

It wasn’t like she didn’t get a chance to do so. There were so many times and yet she had never done. Even when she came across that in the basement, she still pretended and even pushed it out of her mind, and continued to focus on other things.

What could have been dealt with earlier without using suicide to solve the matter ended up dragging on and causing a mess.

Alice, on the other hand, didn’t expect that Briar would bear the brunt like this. Knowing Briar, the way she knew her, the other would happily push the crime on top of her head without feeling an ounce of pity.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have slapped herself harshly that time when they were confronting each other.

If she had seen her family hiding back then, she would have thought that Briar knew of their existence and did all that to make her look bad in front of them. However. When she thought of how she slapped herself, she ruled against such a thought.

By doing so, she would be seen. Wouldn’t that expose her tricks?

In the end, her conclusion was as follows. Briar slapped herself to frame her. That way, when they met the others, she would be in trouble. However, no one expected the argument to reach another level, which then pushed Briar to throw herself at the fountain so ruthlessly.

That wasn’t something that someone who had a clue that everyone was listening in could do. It was too foolish.

Thinking like that, the snake sister-in-law became much more pleasing.

At least she won’t be bullied in the future. She would manage to stand up for herself.

"I shouldn’t have accused you without understanding much," Alice said with a faint smile before asking, "Perhaps, do you remember why you were at the hospital and arguing with _" However she didn’t get to finish as Briar looked at her confusingly, her brows knotted and a groan escaped her lips, making her halt in the middle of the question.

Alice, seeing that suddenly panicked upon seeing Briar reaching her hands to massage her temples, looking a bit pale.

"Briar, you ... what’s wrong with you?" Alice asked nervously as she rose from her seat, hurriedly making her way to Briar.

Briar looked at Alice with reddened eyes as she continued to massage her temples, and answered, "My head. It started hurting," her tone was hoarse and voice shaky as she continued, "Hospital. Did I once argue with someone? Was that why you .... ?" her eyes filled with panic as tears continued to pool in them.

When Alice heard that, she nearly slapped her mouth as something clicked in her.

’I nearly triggered an uneventful event. I guess I shouldn’t speak much about Selena from now on lest I let those erased memories return.’

Alice reached her hands for Briar’s with a calm expression now that she knew what was going on and said reassuringly, "Don’t mind me. I got mixed up with something and mistook you for someone else. Are you feeling fine?" changing the topic smoothly.

Briar’s furrowed brows loosened and looked at Alice dazedly for a moment before rationality returned.

"Oh! Is that so? Then it’s good," Briar answered doubtfully before she resignedly accepted the reasoning. "I should be fine. My head doesn’t hurt anymore." A smile blossomed on her face after saying that.

Looking at the sunny Briar, Alice heaved a sigh of relief. At the same time, she took note of what happened and decided to share the news with the others.

She felt sorry for what Briar was going through, but considering what they did to each other, their debts were repaid in full.

Once she had made sure that Briar was okay, she returned to her seat and started talking about other things.

The two reconciled during their interaction, and the office was filled with endless laughter.

"If I had known that we would click this well, I would have put more effort!" Alice said as she clicked her tongue, filled with regret for nearly missing on someone as funny as Briar.

Although she wasn’t well-learned, just listening to the amazing stories and gossip that happened in the past decade revolving around her brother made her laugh so hard.

Briar’s eyes shone as she looked at Alice and echoed her words, "Same here. It’s good that everything has been settled between us."

Alice was very happy to hear that. "Indeed. Let us forget the past and look forward to the future," she said as she played with her phone.

Briar was the happiest hearing that.

It would be awkward if the past continued getting mentioned.

Alice’s thoughts were the same as well.

With both of them having the same train of thought, they both looked pleasing to each other’s eyes.

However, that momentum was cut short when Alice’s telephone rang.

She looked apologetically to Briar before answering the phone, "Um. What is it?"

A response came and Alice replied, "I know. Prepare the car," before hanging up.

Hearing that, Briar knew that the president was back at work again, and since Briar needed to take her pills at home, she couldn’t stay anymore.

Besides, didn’t they talk enough?

After the call, Alice looked at Briar and said helplessly, "Sorry sister-in-law. I wanted to take you out for lunch and continue this, but I forgot that I have an appointment. How about we do this another time?"

Briar saw no need to refuse, so she accepted that offer. "Sure, let’s make an appointment when you are free. I am always available," Briar said, not embarrassed by saying that at all.

Being Logan’s wife so far was the most carefree job she had ever done. She had all the time in the world.

The two reconciled sisters-in-law didn’t waste any time but promised each other to go on an outing another time in the future.

After all, cementing their relationship was what was important to the two of them right now.

And as Briar left in the car sometime later, her hand hovered over the video she once received from X before the whole fiasco happened.

She was distracted for a while. However, when she snapped back to reality, a determined gaze filled her eyes, and she resolutely pressed send.

As for how the receiver would react, she only hoped that the other would be grateful and consider this a peace offering.
