Chapter 75: HEART-TO-HEART TALK

Chapter 75: Chapter 75: HEART-TO-HEART TALK

"If you don’t come out in three, I will leave you! Don’t think that I am joking!" Briar yelled as she held her waist while glaring towards the door.

The clock was ticking, and it was almost time for the kids to leave home and yet Tiana, being too playful as always, was playing hide and seek during this moment.

Lyra and Cade both wore sly smiles on their faces as they watched the drama unfolding.

"What do you think is going to happen?" Cade asked playfully as his brows rose, curious about how this play would end.

Lyra folded her arms as she looked intriguingly towards the furious stepmother and answered languidly, "She won’t be having it now, but later, I can see her crying," her tone laced with confidence.

Upon hearing that, Cade’s eyes shone as he thought of something, but didn’t respond. He and Lyra continued to watch the show.

Meanwhile, Tiana, hearing that the second mother was indeed upset, guiltily made her appearance and walked pitifully towards her.

Briar hmphed as she looked at the girl, who was now selling pity after all the ruckus she had done.

In this short period, she had been sick and was busy recuperating. Tiana had been getting out of hand. It was as if she had entered her rebellious stage. But wasn’t it too early for that?

If she continued to spoil Tiana like that, perhaps in the future the truth comes about how she wasn’t Logan’s child. Won’t she suffer?

She would be the one to blame.

It was perhaps time to be strict with the kids. She didn’t want to be labeled as the heartless stepmother who raised kids into waste. She didn’t dare carry such a mantle.

Briar didn’t soften even when Tiana looked at her pitifully but simply ordered coldly, "Get inside the car and don’t play any tricks," her tone was very cold and it made the little girl’s eyes redden.

Briar’s heart panged as she saw that. She was tempted to pick the little girl and coax her, however, when she thought that spoiling too much would cause adverse effects; she steeled her heart.

Tiana could only board the car with a sullen face. Meanwhile, the eldest two became wary and maintained their silence. It wasn’t every day that their second mother showed such a side.

She was truly angry and an angry second mother wasn’t one to piss off easily.

They have been together for over a decade, after all.

With all the children inside the car, Briar joined them and moments later, the car started driving away.

Watching all that fiasco was Logan and Uncle Marcus, and the two men’s eyes were flickering with unreadable glints. It made others wonder what they were thinking.

Nonetheless, on Briar’s side, after the car drove for over thirty minutes without her saying a single word, calming herself down in the process. She finally cooled and decided to have a small chat with the kids.

"I haven’t been able to send you or pick you up from school due to my illness. First, I want to apologize for what happened. I shouldn’t have been ...." She closed her eyes as she recalled how selfish she was doing such a thing when the kids were watching.

Listening to her speaking like this, the three kids were quite nervous. They subconsciously held each other’s hands, which seemed cold and wet to the touch.

" ..... I will never attempt something like that ever again. So, no matter what happens in the future, don’t follow my steps. If there is anything wrong, or you are facing a problem, be it at home or at school, then find someone to share that problem with. As long as you are two or more, the solution can be found," Briar sincerely said as she looked at the kids.

Before she blamed the kids for their behavior, she knew that she needed to address certain issues. The kids should have been traumatized by what had happened before, though they have never said it. The way they clung to her or did unnecessary things and caused trouble for no reason as if they wanted her attention all the time.

It might be another way of venting out. They might be fearful that one day, probably something might happen again and perhaps she won’t wake up again.

She didn’t want them to be held back like that or feel as if they could do something that dangerous just because the world refused to revolve around them.

The insecurity, even she felt it and understood. If she could feel it, then why won’t the kids?

Seeing the kids looking at her with reddened eyes, Briar felt even guiltier. However, she didn’t dare expose the fact that she knew that they were there and watching, so she could only go around in circles.

"Second mother, you ....." Lyra couldn’t finish as she looked at Briar with teary eyes, choking as she was overwhelmed with emotions.

As an adult, she understood what was being said and what Briar was referring to. She was actually scared that night. She had never seen such a thing in her life and yet the first person she saw trying to kill herself happened to be the woman she had considered a friend and a mother.

Without Briar, and with how careless their mother was back then, she didn’t dare imagine the kind of person she would have grown up to be.

Briar played a great role in their lives and gave all the love and dedication she could. And yet to see her striking herself just because she was accused of murdering her biological mother, she was at a loss.

She was actually guilty towards her second mother. In order to hear the truth, she, alongside everyone, stood back and eavesdropped on the conversation. If only she had trusted her and judged her with what she had seen. After all, she was someone who was raised by this woman.

If she was as bad as what was being said, then wouldn’t she grow up crooked?

Unfortunately, for a moment, everyone was clouded and, in the end, Briar’s life was nearly lost.

As if that wasn’t enough, after getting better, she was the one apologizing when they were the ones in the wrong. How could she take it?
