Chapter 67: DON’T LET HER KNOW!
Chapter 67: Chapter 67: DON’T LET HER KNOW!
Logan looked at Briar, who had shied away and pretended like she wasn’t in the room, and smiled helplessly.
They were almost there, but damn, they were interrupted.
Looking at her and then the wheelchair ditched over there, his common sense returned.
He took a deep breath as he calmed his desire.
It wasn’t the right time. Due to momentary desire and lack of control, he nearly took her.
She deserves the best and the best first night. He owes her that, at least.
Knowing that there was no way that Briar would see his mother and sister in her condition, he reached out to her and ruffled her hair, saying softly, "Dear, I am going downstairs. You take a rest. Or should I send the kids here?"
Without looking up, Briar responded in a muffled voice, "Send the kids," if she remained by herself after such a moment, she was afraid that her thoughts might go astray.
She might as well cool herself down with the kids’ accompaniment.
Hearing that, Logan inwardly thought, ’Just as I thought,’
before saying, "Okay. They will be here in a moment. Take care of yourself," and dropped a kiss on top of her head.Briar’s face flushed despite being hidden by the pillows. The desire she was trying to suppress almost got lit up again with that kiss.
Logan, unaware of what Briar was going through, climbed down the bed and arranged his clothes. Once that was done, he left the bedroom, a glint of doting in his eyes as he thought of his young wife.
No wonder why people marry all the time. It was indeed wonderful having a wife to tend to him or to spoil.
When he arrived downstairs, he found his mother, little sister, and his kids talking in the living room.
"Mom, Alice!" he called out to them in greeting as he joined them.
Madam Meyer smiled as soon as she saw her son and answered, "Um. Is everything okay?"
"Yes. All is well. I wasn’t expecting to see you again!"
Upon hearing that, Madam Meyer’s brows rose as she looked at her son with amusement in her eyes. "Could it be .....?" she dragged her words as she scanned him from head to toe.
And when she saw the iciness which flashed in his eyes for a moment, she couldn’t help but chuckle as she cursed him inwardly. ’Did he forget that she is recuperating? What a hungry beast!’
Even Alice chuckled as she looked away. Briar was truly too good. Even in her state, she managed to ..... when everything was settled, maybe she would get some lessons from her.
She was too good.
Logan seeing that his mother and Alice were up for trouble and these kids of his if left like that could start having unintended thoughts, said to them, "Your second mother is waiting for you upstairs," which was enough to make the kids scramble away from the living room without any reluctance.
Madam Meyer and Alice watched as the kids who were latching onto them a moment ago disappeared as if they had supernatural abilities.
They both looked at Logan, seeking answers.
"Logan, are they always like that?" Madam Meyer couldn’t help but ask.
What she knew of Briar was that she heard from others and the little she had seen at the ancestral house.
Even Alice was quite surprised seeing that. She didn’t know that her nephew and nieces were attached to Briar like that.
Was this good or bad?
Worry started overwhelming her.
Logan unaware of his sister’s thoughts nodded smilingly with an, ’I have gotten used to seeing this,’ expression and answered, "You will be surprised by what these kids can do when it concerns their second mother," unbeknownst to him, his tone was laced with undeniable doting.
Madam Meyer, seeing that, felt a bit complicated, but that was for a short moment.
"That’s good then. As long as there is harmony between the mother and the children, then everything will be fine," she said sincerely.
This was her first time seeing a stepmother and stepchildren so close to each other. If she didn’t know, she would think that Briar was the mother or perhaps a blood relative.
The kids seemed to be too reliant on Briar. Was it because she used to be their nanny and the way she took care of them was that of a mother raising her children?
She didn’t know if that would be good for them in the future, especially in the case where Briar and Logan have a child of their own.
Would she continue to love the kids the way she loves them now?
This was a problem that would need to be solved. Maybe one day she would sit down with Logan and talk to him about it.
She didn’t want to face a case of stepmother abusing her stepchildren in the future.
Her family can’t accommodate such a scandal.
Logan didn’t know what his mother was thinking about, but he had an inkling of the reason why she was here in the first place. And he happened to have an answer for that.
Not wanting to beat around the bush, without wasting any time, he asked directly, "Mother, are you perhaps here about the matter for yesterday?"
When Madam Meyer heard about that, she nodded her head, though that wasn’t the only reason why she came to see her son.
Seeing that, he nodded understandably and answered, "I managed to get in touch with someone I know. We can’t do it now, but in a few days. Everything would be arranged by then," a relieved smile on his face.
He was quite saddened when he learnt that the procedure couldn’t be done straight away, but when he heard that it could still be done after everything had been arranged; he felt as if another burden was going to be removed off his shoulder.
As long as that could be done, then all his worries would disappear.
When the two women heard that, they were as relieved as Logan. It was indeed a ticking bomb. The sooner it was dealt with, the better it would be for everyone.
"Okay, just make sure that she doesn’t know. No matter what, don’t let her know!" Madam Meyer didn’t forget to remind her son.
Logan wasn’t a fool. People tend to resist what they fear. If that happens, they might receive a backlash and face dire consequences.
Seeing that her son was aware, she then moved on to the issue which brought them here.
"Son, did you check the headlines by any chance?"
