Chapter 88: Chapter 88 Must Seize the Opportunity (2)
It was evident that this Tang Duck was indeed a person of good character.
When Tang Qingzhong took Gu Nuan to get familiar with the nearby pantry and copy room, he told her, "Don’t think that the team leader seems angry with you. He’s not angry at you, but at himself. The projects our team takes on are the ones other teams don’t want to handle, the toughest nuts to crack. The male colleagues have to travel every other day, sometimes getting less than three hours of sleep a night. Tell me, isn’t it suffering for a female colleague to join our team?"
Gu Nuan also felt that if Team Leader Fang was really that bad, he would be disliked by others, and he would not be accompanied by a nice guy like Tang Duck.
Bad people are always good at hiding themselves, and compared to nice guys, the friendships of hypocrites are invariably strikingly better.
After the incident with Wa Zicong, Gu Nuan had completely understood that judging a man’s character was essential. With supervisors and colleagues like Team Leader Fang and Tang Duck, at least they were straightforward and wouldn’t stab you in the back, leaving you bankrupt and tearless.
True to form, Tang Duck earnestly told her, "Learn to operate the machines here on your own; if you don’t understand, it’s best to look it up. Don’t ask me, and definitely don’t ask the team leader."
Gu Nuan, "...This place is worlds apart from the school, where you can directly ask teachers if you have questions."
The harsh reality of society’s classroom had given Gu Nuan her first lesson today. Fortunately, she was already accustomed to self-studying in school.
Tang Duck received a call from a client, and said to Gu Nuan, "Team Leader Fang and I are going out to meet a client, watch the time and get off work on your own when it’s time."
Effectively, he had left her on her own for the day.
It’s always like this for new employees, being anxious is of no use, they can’t provide any help.
What Gu Nuan needed to do now was to keep her supervisors at ease, at the very least not causing them any trouble. Therefore, she nodding assuredly at Tang Duck’s request, and alone in the pantry, she not only figured out how to use the copier but also tinkered with the adjacent communal coffee machine.
Speaking of the company’s coffee machine, it was known as the soft diplomacy of the office. Gu Nuan remembered reading in a career book that someone who could make a good cup of coffee always encountered unexpected gains, whether it was with clients, with supervisors, or with colleagues.
As Gu Nuan fumbled with her phone to figure out the model of the coffee machine, someone entered the pantry.
Gu Nuan had not seen this person before and judging by their age, they seemed to be about the same age as Sister Cai. Later, Gu Nuan learned that this person was the team leader of the fifth design project team, known as Sister Yao.
Sister Yao seemed to be in a hurry to find something in the pantry, and when she saw a pack of disposable cups on the leisure table, she picked them up and was about to leave. When she got to the door, she suddenly noticed Gu Nuan standing there and, without a second thought, began to direct her, "Come on, give me a hand, and carry this stuff to the conference room."
"This stuff" referred to the various beverage mixes stored in the pantry, including tea, coffee, and sweeteners.
Gu Nuan knew that she was asked for help because it seemed like she was idling around making coffee. Thus, if she didn’t lend a hand, she was likely to be reprimanded since it seemed like an urgent task and it was work-related.
Since it was an urgent matter for the company, equivalent to putting out a fire, it was not a time to distinguish which team or department one belonged to. As long as one was from the company, collaboration was essential. Especially for newcomers, it was an opportunity to show initiative.
Without a word, Gu Nuan put down her mobile phone that she had been using to study the coffee machine manual, pocketed it, started with a plastic bin, and arranged all the beverage mixes she could find in the pantry into the bin. Holding it with both hands, she followed Sister Yao.
