Chapter 391: Chapter 391 Wife Became a Sought-After Item (1)
The Chairman Xiao Jianming’s sudden emergency board meeting was somewhat unexpected for some directors.
Some received the notification at around eleven or twelve the previous night, while others did not hear anything until after seven o’clock this morning.
As the directors got into their cars and assembled at the company, it was nearly ten in the morning by the time they arrived.
The ordinary employees working in the company, following their regular working hours, did not notice anything unusual.
Under the leadership of Sister Cai from the HR department, the staff were extremely busy. It should be noted that the HR department had only received notice of the board meeting half an hour before it was scheduled to start. It couldn’t be said that Chen Jiaming hadn’t informed his people, as the directors in the company, just like him and Sister Cai, had received the notification at the same time.
Kang Junjia immediately called Chen Jiaming, "I hadn’t received any hint about this beforehand. Chairman Xiao’s sudden action, I cannot guess its purpose. Director Chen might just have to play it by ear."
Knowing that Kang Junjia had the most reliable information channels in the company, it was unexpected that he too was kept in the dark by Xiao Jianming. Chen Jiaming responded gravely, "Director Kang, there’s no need to speak on my behalf at the meeting."
"Understood," Kang Junjia smiled knowingly, "The Chairman may have noticed the relationship between you and me, but it’s better not to lay it all out on the table. That wouldn’t look good."
After hanging up the phone, Chen Jiaming took the suit jacket hanging on the coat hook, put it on, and prepared to attend the meeting.
As he walked out of the office, he took extra precaution and said to the secretary at the door, "Could you please call the Financial Department and ask if anyone is absent from work today?"
The secretary nodded and immediately picked up the phone to call the Financial Department.
Shortly after, the secretary replied, "No one from the Financial Department called in sick."
"Is Gu Nuan attending work as usual?" Chen Jiaming asked.
The secretary made another call, then answered, "Yes. Would Director Chen like Gu Nuan to come over? She is currently in the Financial Department."
"No need," Chen Jiaming shook his head.
While walking, he mulled over the situation and dialed Wa Zicong’s number.
Wa Zicong was indeed surprised by the sudden call. That day, after the major incident at the Xiao Mansion, everybody knew that Lin Yishan had been disappointed there.
Consequently, his value, as Lin Yishan’s future husband, had begun to plummet.
Even his superiors at MN had been showing signs of disfavor toward him lately.
MN had treated him well and promoted him all because of the Lin Family’s daughter, all while waiting for Wa Zicong to bring more profitable opportunities to MN, which would inevitably be tied to marriage relations with a wealthy family.
Chen Jiaming, as a person, might not have been clearly understood by Wa Zicong before, but after an incident on a recent business trip, Wa Zicong seemed to have gotten a slightly better understanding of this Director Chen, who was renowned for his integrity and efficiency.
What does it take to be a successful businessman? Can one manage without being a bit cunning and ruthless?
Chen Jiaming may have a good reputation as an honorable gentleman externally, but deep down, he couldn’t escape the sly and crafty nature of a businessman.
There isn’t a single clean tycoon in business. Otherwise, why would so many businessmen rush to make donations, if not to ease their consciences?
Realizing this, Wa Zicong was very clear in his mind that Chen Jiaming’s call to him must be profit-driven, otherwise, he wouldn’t have reached out to him at a time when others were starting to shun him.
"Director Chen, hello," Wa Zicong’s tone was neither humble nor arrogant.
