Chapter 334: Chapter 334 Never Underestimate the Old Man (1)
Chunhua had just approached the entrance of the Xiao Mansion when a young man emerged from the door. She hadn’t time to react when, like a gust of wind, he brushed past her, his eyes clearly bearing an air of disregard for anyone else.
Arrogant, haughty, the young man’s demeanor was utterly embodied in his elegant, noble attire of a white suit.
Which young master could he be? It seemed almost unnecessary to guess.
The Xiao Family servant leading the way told her, "This is our young master, the only son of the chairman."
Concerning this young master of the Xiao Family, Chunhua had heard what the public did: Nothing but tales of prodigality and wastefulness.
Now seeing him for the first time, he indeed appeared more handsome and charming than the rumors suggested, his arrogance so distinct it was evident he had been spoiled by someone.
Chunhua’s eyes slightly lowered, she stepped up the stairs.
Shulan and Shuju, having heard of her arrival, were already hastening to the doorway to greet her.
"Mrs. Ou—" Shuju, taking the lead, grabbed her by the arm.
Chunhua was momentarily stunned.
She was hardly acquainted with Shuju.
It was Shulan who had invited her. Thus, she had previously, at some business banquets—as Shulan was also engaged in some business ventures—exchanged greetings and met Shulan.
Her visit to the Xiao Family certainly wasn’t for the young master of the Xiao Family. She had no daughter, only a son. However, from Shulan, she had learned that her own Su Family had a niece who was favored by the Xiao Family. But now, from what that servant had just revealed, the young master of the Xiao Family had gotten married.
What had become of that niece from the Su Family, she seemed not to have seen.
Chunhua gently brushed Shuju’s hand aside, turning to face Shulan with a smile, "Mrs. Kang."
Shuju felt extremely embarrassed and aggrieved, thinking that it had been she who had facilitated Su Yixia’s introduction, otherwise how could she have had the chance to get close to Chunhua.
Perhaps at that moment, Shulan remembered the third sibling and said to Chunhua, "This is our third sibling; her husband’s family name is Lin. It was she who signed for that girl from your maternal family, unfortunately—"
Shuju was shocked and distressed. The elder sister was introducing her not in the best of terms, apparently to shirk responsibility.
Chunhua, hesitating as her gaze swept over their faces, being a clever person, quickly realized something and said, "Actually, the little girl you mentioned, I’ve never met her in my life. My maternal family, ever since I got married, resented me heavily and did not welcome me back due to their preference for sons over daughters."
As she mentioned the preference for sons over daughters, the Xiao sisters and Chunhua felt an immediate closeness, warming considerably to each other.
Shuju asked, "Really, is your family the same?"
"My maternal family has always treated daughters as water splashed out, seen as no longer part of the Su Family the moment they are married, completely disregarded and only hoped the daughters would come back to aid the maternal family as their duty, but never expect any share of inheritance," said Chunhua.
This was not so different from their own Xiao Family.
Shulan and Shuju, one on each side, crowded around Chunhua like they were supporting a celebrity, ushering her into the reception hall.
The three settled down and, as the tea was being prepared, someone seemed to peer inside through the door.
Shulan and Shuju noticed it was the fourth sibling’s daughter, Zhu Jiayin; probably the fourth felt it inappropriate to show up in person and simply let her daughter do the probing.
They both knew that the second and third siblings had set their sights on marrying into the Ou Family, and the household of the fourth, also having a daughter, was not about to be left behind.
Shulan and Shuju chose to ignore her in unison.
