Chapter 123: Chapter 123: The Four Tigresses of the Xiao Family (9)

"Yes, Group Leader Jiang." Tang Qingzhong turned around and answered.

Group Leader Jiang was the leader of the Business Development Group One.

"Did the Personnel Department say anything?" Group Leader Jiang asked Tang again.

"No. They only asked us to come over." Tang Qingzhong replied succinctly.

"Why are you taking her with you?" Group Leader Jiang’s gaze fell on Gu Nuan, "Isn’t she deaf? What are you going to do with her once you get there?"

"The Personnel Department asked for both of us to go." Tang Qingzhong quickly passed the buck to the Personnel Department.

A trace of displeasure flashed across Group Leader Jiang’s face.

Gu Nuan could clearly see through him that there was another person sitting in the office, likely their department head, who, it was said, had the surname Meng from their Business Development Department.

Obviously, Department Head Meng and Group Leader Jiang wanted to keep Gu Nuan behind for a private interrogation.

New employees were always easier to handle.

"Well, the department head said, one of you should stay here. He will call the Personnel Department. We can’t have all three groups without a single person present. Are you saying Mingyue is the only person on top of things?" Group Leader Jiang appeared impatient as he made the decision for the two of them.

They couldn’t keep both of them; for the upper level’s inquiry, it had to be just one to stay on the safe side.

Without a second thought, Tang Qingzhong gestured to Gu Nuan: you go, I’ll stay.

Dealing with people from his own department was something Tang Qingzhong was more familiar with and could handle.

Gu Nuan nodded and walked out of the Business Development Department alone.

Walking out, she could feel pairs of eyes staring at her back, as if they were all surprised by her audacity and confidence. Wasn’t she just a deaf person?

When she arrived at the Personnel Department, she was received by Xiaoliu, the same person who had shown her the way before.

"Are you alone?" Xiaoliu was also surprised to see her by herself.

"Commissioner Tang was called over by the department head." Gu Nuan explained.

Xiaoliu looked at her with even more curiosity: "They called for him, not you?"

Normally, shouldn’t it have been Tang Qingzhong who left her behind and came alone? Why was she the one taking action?

Had Group Three lost their minds?

Now was absolutely a critical moment. One careless slip and all three of them would have to take responsibility.

Xiaoliu could only think that perhaps the leader of the Business Development branch intended for Group Three to take the fall all on their own, holding Tang Qingzhong back by force.

Gu Nuan could hear what seemed to be Sister Cai’s voice echoing in the Personnel Department.

Xiaoliu quickly closed the door to the Personnel Department and took Gu Nuan with her saying, "Let’s go to the conference hall on the seventh floor."

When Gu Nuan had first joined Changda, someone from the Personnel Department had briefly introduced her to the overall structure of the headquarters building; it seemed that the seventh floor was only opened for the whole company’s gatherings.

There was a large conference hall on the seventh floor called the Central Conference Hall, where the Changda executives held their meetings.

Could it be that they were convening there to hold a critique session against Group Three?

Gu Nuan could somewhat infer that their Group Three’s affairs had alarmed the top echelons of Changda.

Personnel Department

After seeing Gu Nuan leave, Sister Cai hurriedly dialed her desk phone, and once the call connected, she spoke in a low voice, "Chairman Chen. The people from Group Three have been summoned for a meeting."

"Group Leader Fang is hospitalized, so you want Commissioner Tang to respond to the inquiry, is that right?" Chen Jiaming said.

"No, the person who came is Gu Nuan."

Sister Cai could hear her own rapid breathing. Xiaoliu found it strange that Gu Nuan came alone, but Sister Cai thought it was only to be expected.

Fang Yongxing was not someone to be trifled with, otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to fend for himself in such a complex corporate environment until now.

Tang Qingzhong was poor, both in terms of eloquence and public speaking. In contrast, Gu Nuan had already demonstrated public relations abilities in the interview that were more than twice as good as Tang Qingzhong’s.

And then, there was the cup of chrysanthemum tea.

Chen Jiaming’s voice, after hearing the news she reported, seemed only to pause for a moment, then coolly and calmly, just as she had thought, "Group Leader Fang has a good eye for people. Now I’m only curious who it was who assigned her to Group Leader Fang’s group."

Sister Cai replied honestly, "I just happened to be out that day. The allocation of the new employees was the result of negotiations among the executives of various departments within the company."

"If it’s someone nobody wants, someone has to make the final call, right?"

This was indeed true. Sister Cai’s eyes flickered. "I’ll ask about it later."

"Get ready and head to the conference room on the seventh floor."

As Sister Cai was about to hang up the receiver, Chen Jiaming asked again, "How did she look today?"

All of them had only learned this morning that Gu Nuan and Tang Qingzhong had been trapped on a construction site last night. It was said that they had escaped on their own later.

Sister Cai said, "She was standing at the door; I didn’t look carefully, but she could walk and move, so she shouldn’t be injured."

In her mind, Sister Cai thought it was almost astonishing how much Chen Jiaming was paying attention to a new employee, intriguing her deeply.

What kind of magic did this deaf person possess to fascinate Chen Jiaming?

Because of a cup of chrysanthemum tea?

Elsewhere, as Gu Nuan followed Xiaoliu to the entrance of the conference hall, she saw Xiaoliu hesitate and stamp her foot at the doorway.

Xiaoliu seemed very nervous, overly so, with the hand reaching out to grab the copper handle on the door trembling continuously.

Gu Nuan felt this was odd and asked, "Are you okay?"

Xiaoliu turned around, suddenly giving her a smile.

Gu Nuan could tell that her forced smile was overly exaggerated, her eyes spelling out in big bold letters: Wish yourself luck.

Immediately thereafter, Xiaoliu abruptly pushed open the doors to the conference hall.

Gu Nuan didn’t rush to follow her in, only to hear Xiaoliu, who had walked into the conference hall ahead, say to the people inside, "Chairman, I’ve brought the person."

The chairman?

Could it be him—Dad?

The globally renowned, famously wealthy Xiao Jianming?

Gu Nuan’s pupils contracted slightly.
