Chapter 428: Chapter 406: The Poles

"What time is it now?" Angel asked with a smile.

A nurse turned to check the time on a device, "It’s 20 minutes to midnight," she replied.

During this time, several nurses were responsible for taking care of all of Angel’s daily needs, the most critical being to keep her alive. Although they were told that this winged woman was extremely dangerous, everyone has a sense of sympathy for the weak. Seeing the "dangerous person" struggling even to stand, it became subconsciously difficult for them to associate her with "danger."

Moreover, after spending so much time together, they found that she was easy to get along with. She cooperated with everything and never had any excessive demands. Over the months, they had even reached the point where they could "chat and share feelings"...

Of course, it was just making simple conversation. If it were like the first day of school in a girls’ dormitory, with a bunch of women sitting cross-legged, picking at their feet, and chattering non-stop about trivial matters, these nurses would probably have to be dragged out to volunteer the next day.

So, when Angel casually asked for the time, it aroused no suspicions.

"Oh. You all have really had a hard time during this period," she said softly with a nod.

A nurse adjusting a medication slightly frowned. This sentence was quite normal, but the tone was odd, sounding like it was from someone who had been visiting for a long time and was about to say goodbye.

"We did what we should," another nurse replied, not noticing anything unusual.

Angel did not speak again but started fiddling with her wings, which were full of veins and meridians.

She occasionally touched or shook her wings when she had nothing else to do, so no one noticed that she was gently pulling a piece of fascia, adjusting its position, and reconnecting it to another blood vessel.

Like this, she quietly fiddled for about 5 minutes.

"Could you please come over?" she asked somewhat abruptly.

The nurses were startled, thinking she might be feeling uncomfortable, so they put down their work and walked over to her.

"What’s the matter?" someone asked.

Just then, Angel suddenly raised her wings, spreading them half-open on both sides and bringing them together in front of her. At the junction, layers of fascia and blood vessels overlapped, and the originally chaotic patterns pieced together to form a circular rune!

In that moment, the pupils of the nurses fixed, and they stood still, as if they had lost all consciousness. There were no screams, no strange lights, no sound, and no alarms were triggered. Nothing abnormal could be seen on the monitor. Angel seemed to have entered another space that overlapped with the current one...

Seeing that everything around her had come to a standstill, Angel immediately turned her wheelchair with difficulty, stretched out her arm, and picked up a scalpel beside her, aiming it at her own chest.

The blade cut through the clothes, pierced the skin, and as the blade tilted downward, it slowly moved, creating a shocking wound on her chest!

Some blood flowed out, but the body was no longer very vibrant, so not much blood spurted out. Angel slightly increased the flow of various medications from behind to keep herself from dying too quickly.

Afterward, she dropped the scalpel and plunged both hands into the cut, forcefully pushing them in.

"Gurgle gurgle..." Blood and flesh made a chilling sound as they were violated. Angel’s face was expressionless; she was very focused, avoiding touching any crucial tubes inside her body. Though expressionless, fine sweat still oozed out of her body, and her originally pale-gray complexion showed a flush of unhealthy red.

Then... she pulled out a bone...

Then, another rib...

Next, she shoved her hand into her body again, pulling out a lump of flesh and a bunch of strange things.

Because her organs were all outside, there was a lot of vacant space inside her body. Although her body had been scanned when she was brought into the Polar Research Area, Angel’s body structure was so peculiar, and these things were also attached inside her, so no one noticed anything unusual.

At this moment, after pulling out these items, Angel picked up a roll of tape and laboriously wrapped her wounds. It was just ordinary medical tape, not the hemostatic bandages used by field operatives, so it couldn’t stop the blood, but it was better than nothing.

Knowing she would soon die in this condition, Angel wasted no more time. She quickly propped herself up, fell to her knees with a "plop," and picked up two pieces of bone... beginning to assemble them.

She joined two ribs and wrapped a loop of fascia around them, made a turn, and connected another bone.

In this way, she constructed a frame about half her height.

By now, Angel was covered in sweat, her eyes flickering dimly, as if exhausted to the point of losing consciousness immediately.

She dared not hesitate, turned and knocked over a nearby medicine box, picked out a few things like cardiac stimulants, and pulled on her veins, yanking her heart closer and plugging it directly in.

At the same time, she turned up to the maximum the electrodes on her fallen brain!

After doing all this, Angel finally seemed to regain a bit of strength, but she knew it was all just burning through her reserves.

But she just needed to hold on a little longer.

With her last bit of strength, she stood up, grabbed the scalpel, and with a swift motion, tore off most of her own wings! She smeared it on the small frame in front of her, then stuck a large piece of flesh that she had previously hidden in her stomach on it, and finally, picked up a small, oblong bone from the ground, aimed it at one side of the flesh membrane, and stabbed it in. The end of this bone was cut very flat and had a small hole, it looked just like a lock cylinder... And just like that, a door about half her height made of bones and flesh appeared!

Angel took a light breath, just one last step left. But due to fatigue, she vomited a large mouthful of fresh blood, felt a wave of dizziness, and was so frightened that she hurriedly squeezed her own heart.

She also stretched out her own thumb, placed it in her mouth, and lightly bit down, severing it—turns out, this bone segment was hollow, containing a key made of bone!

With her last bit of energy, Angel inserted the key into the bone door.

And opened it.

She had drained all her strength and finally collapsed on the floor, her hand no longer able to help her heart beat.

...

At that moment, the bone door seemed to be blown open by a gust of wind, a stream of hot air coming from the other side, carrying some fine sand.

Afterward, a hand pushed the door open.
