Chapter 360: Chapter 347: Breakthrough
On the other side... the door to a conference room was kicked open. Lin Fan rushed out quickly, not even needing to look at the path and darted towards a certain direction, followed by a "whoosh" from behind him as the remaining people also ran out. Subsequently, a "boom" from an explosion sounded, with smoke and debris billowing out from the doorway behind them, carrying along several severed limbs.
Along this path, thanks to Lin Fan’s guidance, the group did not have to worry about getting lost or being surrounded. All automatic defense systems were still malfunctioning; there was no fear of annihilation. Furthermore, the area where the interrogation room was located was rather remote, so no one was keen to go there, leading to slower dissemination of information to people outside the area.
However, there were still quite a number of guards in this area. Even though Lin Fan managed to avoid all the large troops on every route, conflicts continued to erupt one after another... This included a B-level field operative squad that had just arrived in flying vehicles. Despite the fierce combat, thanks to the presence of a medic, "The Splitters" could essentially fight indefinitely as long as they weren’t shot in the head, while they took any chance they got to kill the opposition. Thus, they forcefully made their way through this path.
"Damn... there are more people ahead!" Lin Fan suddenly stopped, wiped the blood off his face, and yelled.
"Huh? What kind of route are you leading us on!" Chen Xiao complained noisily. He had also sustained a serious injury from the backlash of fighting the external operative squad, and he had wasted an Alloy Bullet to break through their defenses. His shoulder wound had only just healed, so naturally, he felt a bit annoyed.
"Times change, okay! If it were so easy, you wouldn’t be whining!" Lin Fan immediately shot back, then hesitated as if he saw something, "This way!" He turned and ran towards the elevator by the corridor.
"Hey, taking the elevator doesn’t sound like a good idea! If we’re discovered, it’s a dead end!" The Postman asked hesitantly, since if they were trapped in an elevator, the very limited space he would have to see meant he wouldn’t know where to teleport to.
Lin Fan didn’t say much, just shouted, "Trust me!"
Sure thing, there was only trust in him in this situation, after all, he was not trying to lead himself to death, so everyone hurriedly followed him.
"Open it!" Just as they were reaching the end, Lin Fan shouted again.
The next second, the Drunkard sped up and crashed into the elevator doors. With a clang, the entire elevator door was dented inwards. The Drunkard ignored the pain in his shoulder, raised his hand and smashed towards the center of the dent. After a few punches, he made a hole in the door and then, hands pushed in, accompanied by a screeching sound, he forcibly pried the elevator doors apart.
Although he could have collaborated with the Locksmith, this was faster. By this time, the rest had caught up, and the now wide-open elevator shaft echoed with the howling wind, indicating an elevator car was quickly descending.
"Give me the gun!" Lin Fan yelled, without hesitation, reaching his hand towards Chen Xiao.
"Huh? What for!" Chen Xiao was confused.
"To blow up the elevator!" Lin Fan yelled, and rudely snatched the gun from Chen Xiao’s hand. Before the latter could speak up, Lin Fan raised his hand and fired a shot into the elevator shaft.
"Bang!" It was still that robust sound. Because during the previous fight, Chen Xiao had used an Alloy Bullet, and the shooting mode hadn’t been switched back. Lin Fan didn’t have any protective armguards, so with that shot, the huge recoil sent him flying backward. Of course, he had already adjusted the shooting angle like he was prepared, and he slammed against the wall, not flying too far out. However, blood seeped through his teeth, and that arm was twisted at a grotesque angle.
Looking back at the elevator shaft, the elevator, speeding downwards like a train, was hit square on by that shot, instantly bursting into pieces. The twisted steel became lodged in the upper half of the door ... inside, the bodies of several guards could be seen split into pieces, seemingly on their way to the lower level to search for this bunch, not expecting to be killed mid-journey in such a manner.
Lin Fan struggled to his feet, casually tossed the gun back to Chen Xiao, and cursed under his breath, probably blaming the damn weapon: "Let’s go, this leads straight to the area below. We can jump down and be faster. We’re surrounded in this area."
As he spoke, he twisted his crooked arm, grimacing in pain. Then he swiftly bent down and squeezed into the gap under the elevator.
Chen Xiao took the gun and followed, peering down. The elevator shaft was a straight drop, its end invisible in the sudden chill, while Lin Fan clung to the surrounding braces, using the steel spike in his hand to slow down, nimbly leaping downward until he vanished from sight.
"Wow, it’s so high, how do we get down there!"
No sooner had the words left his lips:
"Move aside!" Reina pushed Chen Xiao from behind and then, with a leap, dove down just like Lin Fan, matching his speed effortlessly.
Then...
"Move aside!" This time it was the drunken man speaking. He was seen holding the Locksmith, tossed the still unconscious Jimmy downwards, then jumped down himself without changing his expression, not slowing down at all. A few seconds later, there was an irritating sound of metal grating against metal in the shaft, which must have been him using his hands to slow his descent by grasping the walls. And Jimmy was, of course, caught mid-air.
"Move aside!" The nurse pushed past Chen Xiao, plunging headfirst into the abyss like diving off a building and then... from the darkness below came a soft "pfft"... Hmm, she must have reached the bottom.
Bai Xiong also came over afterward. He didn’t say anything, just calmly jumped down.
"Hey hey, what about me...huh? Ah——————!" Chen Xiao was in the middle of complaining when it felt like someone kicked him, sending him straight into the shaft, plummeting downwards.
After kicking Chen Xiao, Song Xuan also quickly leaped downwards.
...
...
About a minute later, a "zzz" sound came from inside the door at the bottom end of the elevator shaft, as if something was drilling through the door. After a while... a "click" sounded as a key turned in a lock, and then the door slowly opened. The Locksmith peeked out carefully, then slipped out, followed by the rest of the group, with Bai Xiong holding Chen Xiao who seemed to have just vomited.
"That was relatively safe. Not far from here is the containment area," Lin Fan said as he came out, casually tossing another steel spike down the empty corridor ahead.
Just then, a man in a black suit came around the corner and "pfft!" the spike went right into his head. This poor guy didn’t even have a chance to scream before he hit the floor.
"Hurry up, let’s try to get into the containment area before we make contact with A-Ming," Lin Fan continued, utterly composed.
He then walked toward the corpse, intending to retrieve the steel spike.
