Chapter 355: Chapter 342 Start
The small corridor outside the door was empty; the guards who had been there earlier had disappeared, making it evident that the people here had great confidence in the security of the interrogation room.
"Hmm... it’s so quiet, looks like the alarm has been cut off," Chen Xiao said. "With this ability, robbing a bank or breaking out of a prison would be a piece of cake for you."
"It’s not as impressive as you think. Without the support of ’ENIAC,’ I can only temporarily intercept some common telecommunications signals. Moreover, it doesn’t affect ’direct transmission signals’ like walkie-talkies or access cards that don’t need a terminal, so this quiet won’t last long," Reina said calmly.
"ENIAC?" Chen Xiao was surprised. "You mean the computer Amin was connected to?"
"Yes," Reina answered as she walked to another door beside her. Locksmith quickly fished out a key and unlocked the door.
...Bai Xiong was already waiting inside.
Seeing him, Chen Xiao exclaimed, "...uh, seeing how long you’ve been waiting, you must have known about the plan."
Bai Xiong nodded, "Yes."
Chen Xiao’s face fell, "Tch, you guys who betray your teammates will get your comeuppance one day."
Of course, coming from him, the idea of retribution carried little weight—if there really were such a thing, he himself would have died dozens of times over already.
During their conversation, Bai Xiong had stepped out of the room. He scanned the present company and finally fixed his gaze on the Drunkard.
Then, "Hello..." Bai Xiong surprisingly initiated the greeting first.
The Drunkard, somewhat groggy, showed a brief flash of clarity in his eyes, "Ah... hello! I’ve heard a lot about you," he said in his somewhat halting Chinese. "Glad to finally meet you."
"Yes, but it seems like not all of your skills are listed in your file," Bai Xiong said flatly.
The Drunkard shrugged nonchalantly and tilted his head back for a few more swigs.
Just then, "Hey, hey, how about this door... should we open it too?" Locksmith asked, interrupting their conversation. Everyone turned to see the old man moving towards the third door, sorting through a large bunch of keys.
"Uh—," Chen Xiao quickly responded, "that one probably shouldn’t be opened. Inside is one of my teammates who might not have the best temper. If she finds out I brought you guys in, living together will be even more difficult."
"It won’t be more difficult because she already knows," Reina stated.
Chen Xiao was startled, "What? What do you mean?"
"It means that the photo in that surveillance camera was sent to that manager named Jimmy by her," the Postman explained on the side.
"What the fuck? What’s happening?" Chen Xiao was startled again, "—So you’re saying, I really was betrayed by someone in my team? Hey, that’s a lot to take in."
"Alright, let’s talk about the specifics later. Right now, our priority is to find the person in charge whose authority can open the containment area’s gates." Reina said, already heading towards a door at the end of the corridor.
Since this door had always been shut and there wasn’t much noise coming from inside, and the signals being blocked, during this period, nobody except for Jimmy knew that the Pacific Division had been invaded by a group of strange characters. Anyway, that was good news, but it was uncertain how long it would last.
The group had arrived next to the door, which was a typical Foundation door requiring scanned security clearance to open, meaning it had no lock.
"Hey, don’t say I didn’t warn you, though it looks ordinary, this door is unimaginably tough. If we try to force it open..." Chen Xiao began rambling.
"Shut up already," Lin Fan interrupted weakly.
In the meantime, Reina had already placed her hand on the surface of the door. Then, seemingly in a daze, the Locksmith approached the door, extended a finger, and began drilling at the edge—actually managing to bore a hole directly through it...
Chen Xiao stared wide-eyed: "Hey, hey, are we really doing this? Treating the door like it’s styrofoam?"
He silently grumbled to himself, but the scene that followed was even more ruthless. After the Locksmith completed drilling the hole, he mysteriously produced a lock cylinder and shoved it into the hole.
"No way, this is cheating!" Chen Xiao thought to himself, realizing what these people were up to.
Sure enough, before he could finish his thought, the Locksmith found a key, naturally inserted it into the cylinder he had just placed in the door, and then... turned it and pulled... and the door was yanked open.
The sequence of actions was performed flawlessly and smoothly, clearly a routine maneuver for them. Lastly, as the door swung open, the Locksmith even pulled the cylinder out of the door, blowing off the dust...
Chen Xiao’s face was filled with awe, but the situation at the scene seemed to demand that he withhold any further comments.
As the door pulled open, two guards on the outside looked at the odd group, stunned at first. However, being Foundation employees, their mental fortitude was extraordinary. They quickly regained composure, with weapons already raised, too fast to see clearly.
Without a word, a gunshot rang out, the bullet speeding towards the people inside the narrow corridor, where there was hardly any space to dodge.
Then, "Bang!" a second sound was heard.
But this time, it wasn’t a gunshot. It was the sound of the guard who had just fired crashing his protective helmet against the wall. The Locksmith had rushed in front of him at a frightening speed, pressing down on the helmet’s visor, maintaining a "wall-slamming" pose, and in the next second, with a cringe-inducing metallic burst, the guard’s helmet exploded, spraying brain and blood all over the wall.
As for why the other guard didn’t shoot, the truth was that before the Locksmith made his move, the Mail Carrier had already appeared behind the guard and was holding up half an arm that hadn’t had the chance to spurt blood.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye; the bullet that had been fired was already whizzing down the corridor, but the moment Bai Xiong saw the guards as the door opened, he had already rushed to the front, blocking it tightly. Naturally, all of the bullets lodged inside Bai Xiong, blasting open bloody holes. Yet as if feeling nothing, as soon as the Mail Carrier removed the guard’s arm, he rushed forward, gripped the other’s neck, and with a twist of his other hand, there was a "snap"—the guard’s head twisted at an unnatural angle, evidently beyond survival.
