Chapter 347: Chapter 334: Meeting

Without books, time is short. A week had quickly passed. During this time, nothing of particular interest occurred.

The first mission settlement for the Giggling Bird Squad had been released. Each of the three members had received over 1500 points, and all of them had smoothly advanced to the B-level area.

Within the Foundation, a B-level field team was considered a relatively high position of authority. Although they were still combatants, in certain peripheral research institutes, they were regarded as nearly untouchable figures. I remember back when I was at the research institute in City K, the entire base only had Song Xuan as a C-level individual, so their numbers within the Foundation also represented nearly one-tenth of the total. As for the A-level, each major district had only about a hundred or so people. Each one was an elite... of course, that had to exclude those freaks from Omega Squad.

Thus, in the B-level zone, the return on missions and the quality of equipment and serums had vastly improved. After all, those who reached this level had some skills of their own, and the Foundation would not let these people just go and die trivially. Therefore, even after the post-battle aid and Bai Xiong’s extensive repair costs, the Giggling Bird Squad still had over 5000 points remaining.

Thinking back to when Chen Xiao was still in the D-level area, he would fight desperately for less than 100 points, even reluctant to buy a hemostatic spray... sigh, it really makes one feel wistful.

Let’s get back to the matter at hand. On the third day after Chen Xiao left the nurse’s home, Bai Xiong finally called.

With the nurse’s fresh blood nurturing him, Bai Xiong had taken nearly 80 hours to regain consciousness and was still extremely weak. Throughout this time, the nurse had to attach her blood to Bai Xiong every few hours, though later, she slacked in self-harming and resorted to diluting it in a bathtub full of water. However, no matter what, Bai Xiong had ultimately clung to life.

At the moment, Chen Xiao was sitting in the corner of a café, eating sweets as usual. Since it was morning, there were few customers, and it was unusually quiet.

Soon, following the gentle ring of a wind chime, Bai Xiong’s robust body entered Chen Xiao’s view. At first glance, he looked the same, but given his physique, it was hard to associate him with words like weak and powerless. However, Chen Xiao knew that he must be in a state of weakness following a serious illness.

Bai Xiong glanced at Chen Xiao and then walked straight over to sit opposite him, "I heard that you wanted to push me off the building while I was unconscious," he said straightforwardly.

Chen Xiao nodded and continued stuffing cake into his mouth.

"And you stabbed the nurse, with blood gushing like a fountain?"

Chen Xiao nodded again.

"Thank you," Bai Xiong said flatly.

"You’re welcome," Chen Xiao responded...

Well, just like that, these two chatted over their life-and-death actions of the past days as if nothing had happened. It was just about saving a life, no big deal, a simple thank you sufficed. If you make a fuss about it, the other person might even find you annoying.

Yet, after this simple exchange, a silence followed.

Chen Xiao seemed to realize something was off and inexplicably looked up at Bai Xiong asking, "What’s the matter?"

Bai Xiong maintained his silence, clearly hesitant. Based on his temperament, if he wanted to speak, he would have spoken; if not, no one could coax it out of him. It was rare for him to hesitate like this.

...

Suddenly, it seemed Bai Xiong made up his mind and snatched Chen Xiao’s fork.

Oh, don’t get nervous. He wasn’t finally losing his temper to stab Chen Xiao to death...

Bai Xiong shook his arm and then quickly stabbed his wrist with a fork.

Everyone knew that the tips of utensils used for eating pastries were usually blunted for safety and were not sharp at all. With Bai Xiong’s physique, not even knives or forks, but even if you pulled out an ordinary gun and shot him, it might not penetrate his muscle layers. So, when the fork merely scraped his skin, it twisted and could not advance any further, as if stuck in stone.

Of course... Bai Xiong knew this would be the outcome. He wasn’t trying to kill himself here; a little scrape was enough. Then he stretched his wrist toward Chen Xiao... At the spot poked by the fork, which looked a bit pale and slightly oozed some blood, it slowly began to heal.

Chen Xiao stared with wide eyes... "Damn? What kind of twist is this?"

Bai Xiong seemed a bit helpless as he sighed, "I asked, and the nurse said she had never seen anything like this. In the past, the Foundation had experiments where they tried to transfer her regenerative ability to others, but they all failed."

Chen Xiao looked displeased, "So? You soaked in her blood for a few days and then, like a hero charged with an aura, suddenly gained this ability?"

"Both she and I were puzzled, but that’s exactly what happened. I think it might be because my body fused some of her blood during the recombination process."

Chen Xiao held his head with both hands, "What kind of explanation is this? It’s totally shameless like ’falling off a cliff always leads to an adventure’."

Bai Xiong didn’t respond but also didn’t deny it...

This really bothered Chen Xiao, but there wasn’t much he could do. "Okay... since that’s the case, it’s not totally unacceptable. At least there’s some safety assurance when I’m with you." He self-soothed, then picked up the bent fork and poked it towards his finger.

His frail body was like paper-mache, so the fork easily broke the skin... And then, Chen Xiao just watched, waiting for his wound to heal.

But... a long time passed.

"Hey... no way." Chen Xiao’s face contorted as if he thought of something because his finger showed no signs of improvement.

"Hmm... indeed, that’s the case. My ability only works on my own healing and doesn’t affect others. Also, it’s not as fast as the nurse’s; I tested it. With a normal knife wound, one that reaches the blood vessels, it takes about five minutes to heal."

Chen Xiao glared with dead fish eyes, "Why didn’t you say this earlier!"

"You didn’t give me a chance."

Chen Xiao’s head drooped, "Alright, so now you’re just a bit harder to beat up, but actually of no help to us."

"That’s right..." Bai Xiong said indifferently.

"mmp~" Chen Xiao muttered under his breath, frustrated, and sucked on his finger awkwardly.

Just then...

The wind chimes rang again

The door of the café was pushed open once more.
