Chapter 332: Chapter 319 Final Battle (End)
Chen Xiao was flying...backwards...
His body twisted, in a state that should have been shattered, fiercely colliding with everything he touched.
He grazed a sharp limb of a bug, the blade penetrating his suit and taking a large chunk of charred flesh with it.
He collided with a soldier ant, its massive mandibles piercing directly into his lower back but repelled by the iron net within his suit, leaving a gaping crimson hole.
No one knew how many injuries he had sustained, nor how much pain he felt; his right arm, starting from the elbow, was completely broken, hanging on by just a layer of skin, flailing wildly in the air. Something had struck his chest, causing it to cave in, presenting a ghastly sight. His skin was burnt black, with no trace of good flesh, and under continuous abrasion, white bones were exposed.
He opened his mouth, maybe screaming, maybe laughing, but he could no longer make a sound!
His body was so severely damaged, these injuries would have turned any robust man into a corpse.
But Chen Xiao wasn’t dead yet... He was in pain, in agony, his eyes covered with bloody plasma, unable to see his surroundings clearly, the large cut under his ribs filled with scorching breath, making breathing incredibly difficult.
He might die, but he didn’t want to die!
He hadn’t had enough fun yet...
The effects of the Class A drug hadn’t worn off yet, and with the support of his remaining healing ability, Chen Xiao clung to his last breath.
He didn’t have Song Xuan’s speed to intercept the Mother Bug’s retreat. He also didn’t have Bai Xiong’s robust body, so it wasn’t possible for him to stop those giant ants, but... he dared to fight for his life.
Or rather, he had to fight for his life, because the only alternative was to wait for death.
And so, he fought with shocking ferocity, with exhilarating vigor, pushing himself to the brink of utter destruction. Scrambling between survival and annihilation felt...so awesome, so thrilling.
Chen Xiao’s face was contorted, his body twisted, his heart pounding with excitement, his scalp tingling.
The swarm of bugs enveloping the Mother Bug was layer upon layer, dense and impenetrable. Chen Xiao slammed into it with a "clang", bursting through several ants, then fell to the ground, powerless.
He hadn’t breached their defenses, nor had he died, so it wasn’t over yet.
Supporting his numb arm, he forced the last repair capsule into his mouth.
The soft shell passed through his mouth, pushed down his throat, accompanying the ripping pain as it dissolved, scattered, and once again stimulated his whole body, squeezing the last bit of energy from the void to regenerate flesh.
Chen Xiao twitched and stood up.
His body began to heal...but the newly grown skin was extremely dry and shriveled, and his already unimposing frame seemed even frailer, with the contours of his bones protruding.
Like a corpse.
But none of that mattered now, Chen Xiao had to get the necklace in his hand close enough to the Mother Bug, otherwise all his struggles would have been in vain.
So he raised his gun, the Alloy Bullets had been used up, but fortunately, regular standard bullets could still penetrate the ants’ shells, it just required more ammunition and more time.
Chen Xiao pounced forward, the muzzle against the closest bug to him, firing, firing, firing!
Sparks flew in all directions!
His head was spinning, the side effects of the invulnerability period had been delayed for a long time under the support of the Class A drug, but now they manifested at this critical moment.
Suddenly... "puff" went the sound.
A bug limb pierced through his body...
Chen Xiao didn’t care. He lunged for a gap in front of him and thrust his arm through it. At the same time, he bit into his own tongue hard enough to draw blood, and the sharp pain snapped him to attention. In a reflexive motion, he pulled out his Shocking Dagger and slashed at a bug’s limb, but the next second there was a "pfft" sound...
The second limb went down, straight through his shoulder.
Then came the third.
And the fourth.
Countless bugs, still adhered to the Mother Bug, were frantically writhing their bodies and attacking this tiny life that dared to challenge them from below.
Perhaps it was because the ants were only targeting the largest part of the body, or perhaps Chen Xiao was just lucky that none of the bugs targeted his head, which meant he didn’t die right there and then. He was still alive. So he kept desperately squeezing into the wall of bugs,
His intestines had been churned to a mess, his lungs penetrated, and his left leg clamped by mandibles, crushing his bones instantly. Chen Xiao grabbed the Shocking Dagger, gouged out the pincers, pulled out a long strip of bug tissue, pushed hard, and burrowed a few inches further.
He was, with the help of his body’s healing powers and his bulletproof suit that was already torn open in several places, awkwardly and slowly bullying his way into the wall of bugs.
And in the process, he turned himself into a sieve.
It’s hard to imagine, but he hadn’t died yet...
Suddenly, he felt a breakthrough. Chen Xiao’s arm burst through the wall of bugs, and he touched something soft, slimy, and fleshy.
Mother Bug!
...
A ripple... and what followed was a sensation of electric shock.
With his last bit of strength, Chen Xiao pressed the button at the center of the disk. The entire space twisted violently, just like that day in Chen Xiao’s apartment.
It instantly spread throughout the entire bug nest.
Then
everything fell silent.
The bugs stopped moving and screeching; they stood dazed, uncertain what to do, like a bunch of idiots deprived of thought. The bug wall on the Mother Bug also quieted down. It stopped moving, and after a while, they began to slide off, piling on the ground, wriggling their antennae, but unable to receive anything.
Only the plump Mother Bug, now starkly exposed in the scorching air, continued to frantically incite the ant colony to some action, but to no avail... It had been completely blocked off, like a patient with a high spinal injury.
Bai Xiong came to a halt, his body almost nowhere intact, blurred with flesh and blood. Luckily, the giant ants had stopped moving. Song Xuan also stopped, her back bearing a shocking wound that was angry and oozing blood.
This moment of stillness was over too quickly, too quickly for them to understand what had happened.
But no matter what, they seemed to have found an opportunity to get close to the Mother Bug.
So Song Xuan, without a word... her body slid a great distance, and in a blink of an eye, she lunged at the Mother Bug, slashing through the bug’s body at mid-height with a flash of cold light. Bai Xiong also leaped down from the top of the giant bug, regardless of the heat, snatched up a pile of fire that hadn’t yet burned out, and swung it at the Mother Bug.
They were both doing everything in their power, attacking the very foundation of the bug colony.
And they hadn’t noticed that beneath the mass of bugs, Chen Xiao was hunched over, his body pierced by countless bug limbs, convulsing in pain, nearing the brink of death.
