Chapter 330: Chapter 317: The Final Battle (Part Two)

The modified "Door of Smiles" now held only three alloy bullets. Thankfully, the buffer arm guard’s protection meant that Chen Xiao wasn’t busted into a cripple from the shot. However, the close-range impact still launched him high into the air. His bulletproof suit absorbed some of the force, and he had swallowed an A-grade healing capsule beforehand, so the pain from the gunshot, although intense, wouldn’t last long, provided he didn’t blow himself up.

The exhilarating sensation of skirting the edge of death had Chen Xiao screaming in shock. His slender body was flung backward a considerable distance. Midair, several ants reacted and savagely leapt toward him. Then, as if a puddle responding to a downpour, the entire swarm surged into the air, their mandibles snapping wildly. With no leverage in the air, Chen Xiao desperately twisted his recently healed shoulder behind his back as a rapid succession of gunfire echoed...

The pistol could now adjust to any caliber of bullet and control the firing rate at will. This transformation had turned a previously self-harming firearm into something far more practical. At this moment, Chen Xiao’s arm was bent to the verge of dislocation, and the continuous gunfire had actually put the joint out of place. However, the recoil helped him twist strangely in midair, dodging the pincers that were about to clamp down on him.

But this was just a few drops in the seething sea of insects. Two seconds had passed, and Chen Xiao was about to fall again. When that happened, his small frame would undoubtedly be torn to pieces in an instant.

As one crisis had barely passed, another loomed; another giant ant that had escaped the blast of the plasma bomb charged at him with lethal intent in its compound eyes. Its pillars-like forelimbs were already swinging down, poised to crush him into a bloody paste on his downward path.

In the blink of an eye, Chen Xiao’s body jolted as if electrocuted,

The next second, the spike-covered forelimb swiped down with a whoosh and struck Chen Xiao with such speed and force that if someone were watching, they wouldn’t even be able to see where he had gone after the impact. It was as if a spiked baseball bat had smashed into an egg. Under such circumstances, there seemed no need to see clearly - the outcome was just a one-way road to death.

Well... even with all that said, following the adage that trouble lasts a thousand years, how could Chen Xiao just die at the hands of an ant? At the very moment the forelimb struck him, his entire being transformed. The limb did hit him, but by then he had turned from a fragile egg into something harder than a diamond. The immense force pierced his body and dispersed into the void without inflicting any damage. Sparks flew as the terrifying spikes stabbed at his suit, puncturing holes but failing to so much as pluck a single hair from Chen Xiao. He was like a bug in this world, nearly invincible in that instant.

...

It might sound impressive, but in the end, it just meant he was a little tougher; from an egg that would’ve shattered on the spot, he had turned into a stone flung a great distance. With a whoosh, Chen Xiao flew over half of the Mother Nest, knocking ants away in his path, and smashed deep into the wall. Immediately, a sea of ants swarmed over him.

Seizing the one-second window, Chen Xiao raised his hand, "BOOM!!!" Another shot rang out.

The second alloy bullet exploded with an impact rivaling a mortar shell detonating amongst the tide of insects. A large hole was blasted in the dense swarm in an instant, with bugs set ablaze and flung against the ceiling, raining down in flames. Countless dismembered insect parts, flaming, scattered onto the walls and piles of supplies around, igniting a fierce blaze. The nest walls, glued together by secretions, began to burn.

It seemed only humans had brought "fire" into the natural world, starting to use... or rather, misuse it. Like a group of ignorant beings suddenly in possession of power not meant for them, they reveled in the achievement, oblivious to the fact that they had trespassed into the forbidden beyond life itself.

"Squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak——————"

The swarm became even more frenzied, the high temperature eliciting screams that were unbearable to the ear. Bai Xiong seized the momentary gap, roared furiously, and smashed his fist into an ant that had already bitten onto one of his legs, flattening its head. He also savagely tore its entire upper jaw from its head, then, dragging his maimed leg, he leapt up and slammed into the top of another giant ant’s head. Clutching its antennae tightly, his fingers hooked into the layers of scales, and he began to tear them off with brute force!

Undoubtedly, the antennae were the ant’s most sensitive part, and the excruciating pain temporarily cut off the Mother Bug’s control. The ant went into a blind rampage, attacking everything around it without discrimination in an attempt to shake off Bai Xiong. But Bai Xiong was not so easy to deal with. He continued to tear even more fiercely until his fingernails burst open and blood gushed forth. Then he pulled out a combat knife and thrust it deep into the ant’s antennae. He even went as far as biting down directly, using his teeth to tear off pieces of noodle-like flesh!

Madness, chaos, the entire ant colony was thrown into disarray!

...

But all of this was merely superficial.

Because as long as the Mother Bug wasn’t destroyed, any damage was futile, which explained why the remaining two giant ants and the majority of the soldier ants were escorting the Mother Bug in their retreat, rather than coming to help... Within the collective, death was always a matter of course.

Chen Xiao was of course aware of this. Taking advantage of the chaos Bai Xiong created, he also desperately squeezed out of the wall and lunged towards the nearby fire.

The mucus that was used to slow down the rotting of food was burning intensely, making terrifying bursting noises, but Chen Xiao seemed not to care at all. With a strange yell, he dived right in. Instantly, he began to burn all over!

Excruciating pain!!

The flames engulfed Chen Xiao in an instant, the scorching mucus stuck to his body, impossible to shake off. His skin cracked and flesh burst open in mere moments, but due to the capsule’s regenerative effects, new flesh grew back in the next instant.

Underneath this horrific hellish scene that was beyond any normal person’s imagination, Chen Xiao’s eyes shone with an almost visible crimson light. He spread his arms wide, his mouth twisted in a grimace, appearing like a demon that had crawled out from hell, hysterically and crazily charging towards the direction of the Mother Bug!
