Chapter 284: Chapter 271: The Return of the Dark Realm (XXVI)

Blood plasma burst, and chunks of flesh flew across the confined space, where the sound of the explosion became a continuous and unified roar that wreaked havoc in one’s ears, eventually blending into a headache-inducing silence.

No one knew how many guns Dos fired, nor how many movements he made; from an observer’s perspective, only a few seconds had passed since he entered the building, yet the once-sturdy aberration had been reduced to scraps of flesh scattered across the floor and walls. Still struggling, they attempted to recombine, but the inactivity of the tissue clearly limited their movements—it would be impossible for them to regroup in a short time...

Of course, Dos had no time to worry about that. His afterimages vanished the moment the last bullet left the chamber, a drop of sweat rolling down from the corner of his eyebrow... He didn’t even pause to wipe it away, facing a floor that resembled a writhing intestine, he quickly found a twisted breach, gathered his strength, kicked through the blood, and whizzed past.

At the end of that breach was a wall... and on the other side of the wall was supposed to be a large conference room, probably locked most of the time, scarcely entered by anyone. Moreover, for the purposes of soundproofing or focusing sound, it was constructed from very sturdy materials; in short, the room was quite vacant, with hardly any aberrations inside.

Dos didn’t stop his stride, he leapt forward out of habit, carrying immense force and speed, smashing into the wall which shattered upon impact...

Before him lay a rare patch of cleanliness within the Dark Realm, with only a few scattered chairs and some projection equipment. Dos’s shoulder-mounted Invasion Point Detector screeched madly, and he had just confirmed through the scope that the invasion point of the Dark Realm... was right in front of him.

At such a crucial moment, there was no time for hesitation, not even a second to waste. Thus, Dos had already drawn the serum from his bosom as he leapt.

Like in past missions, the serum was contained within a transparent vial; actually, Dos also had special bullets filled with serum, but if not for the surroundings being made of hard materials and densely packed aberrations, he would have already fired a shot to deal with the invasion point.

But luckily, personally coming here didn’t waste much time. He gripped the vial and shattered it with one hand, leveraging the inertia that hadn’t yet faded, his arm swung violently, sending a swath of scarlet across the air, flying toward the designated location like a bullet.

There was actually nothing there; to the naked eye, the area might have appeared a bit distorted, but one wouldn’t notice without looking closely. However, as soon as the first drop of scarlet reached that spot... the serum silently vanished, and the remaining droplets seemed to be greedily consumed by an invisible maw.

Then, a violent twist in the fabric of space ensued, the initial bending of the rays of light quickly turning into an oceanic whirlpool, everything around it—like oils on a canvas—emerged, rotated, and was devoured by the unseen orifice.

The invasion point of the Dark Realm... was finally purified.

At that moment, Dos knelt on the ground with one leg.

"Finally dealt with..." he muttered to himself, and at last, he breathed a sigh of relief.

This mission had been much harder than any previous Dark Realm assignment, not only because of the vast area, but also because of many indescribably strange occurrences. However... now that the crisis was resolved, these issues would eventually be clarified.

Dos thought...

Suddenly, he felt something was off.

From the gap he created behind him, those "gurgle gurgle" disgusting sounds still persisted!

He turned around fiercely, only to see the flesh portal he had blasted into bits still acting as before, beyond the charred sections, desperately searching for one another, trying to regroup.

Dos was dumbfounded; for a moment, he didn’t even know what to say.

After the purification of the invasion point in the Dark Realm, all of the infected tissues, mutated bodies, and those flesh remnants that hadn’t found a host should have disintegrated. The spatial distortion that just happened was definitely a sign of purification, but why... why is everything still the same?

Right then, Dos stood there in shock, at a loss for what to do.

"Hey, hey... your name... Dobby? Or something like that?" a sharp voice called out.

Dos snapped back to his senses and swiftly turned to look in the direction of the voice. Over there, on a row of chairs, sat a person in a protective suit, legs sprawled out, sitting backwards on the chair.

Dos paused for a moment.

"How... how are you here??"

"Me? I’ve been sitting right here!!" the person said, spreading their hands out.

"But... how did I not see you?"

"How would I know why you didn’t see me? You’ve been clanging and banging around here, playing cool after you damaged the wall. If you hadn’t spoken up, I’d have thought you were blind!"

Dos opened his mouth as if to say something, but then hesitated, switching to a different question: "How did you get in here?"

The person looked down, and while their face wasn’t very clear, there was an obvious expression of resignation as they pursed their lips. Then, pointing towards a door by the wall, they said, "Over there is a safety passage. There aren’t any mutants inside, so I followed the passage up here. Found this place relatively safe and I’ve been sitting here ever since, at least half an hour now."

"Half an hour?! Then... then why didn’t you purify the invasion point first!" Dos couldn’t help but roar after hearing this.

"Oh, oh... don’t yell for no reason! It’s annoying!" the person waved their hand dismissively, then got up unsteadily and pulled out a broken vial of serum from their pocket: "My serum was smashed right at the start of the mission, so I couldn’t do anything!"

Dos was momentarily at a loss for words. He suddenly realized that he shouldn’t be talking nonsense with this odd field agent in this place. He had never encountered a situation where the invasion point was purified without any reaction. With this in mind, he quickly prepared to connect to Abraham’s voice communication.

But at that moment...

"What was that just now, a purification failure?" The person had walked up to Dos, hunched over, probably aiming to fumble in their pockets, but the protective suit’s design made it difficult to place their hands anywhere. So, they swung their arms restlessly by their sides.

"I don’t know... it should have been purified, but..."

"But? So you mean, it still failed... right." The person cut Dos off, their tone suddenly turning cold: "Oh, that’s right, I remember now, the order to split everybody up to act as signal sources, that was issued by you too, wasn’t it... huh... do you know how many people died because of that?"
