Chapter 271: Chapter 258: The Return of the Dark Realm (XIII)

The buildings on both sides were enveloped by a vast net woven from flesh and blood, the gloomy sky shrouded by a layer of canopy, with light twisted to an extreme, reflecting a crimson brilliance.

Two A-level field agents walked on a road equally covered in viscera, their feet constantly sensing a soft, sticky feeling... The pair carefully circumvented an aimlessly wandering mutated flesh ball... They then climbed over a motionless flesh mound, presumably one that had not yet found a host with intelligence, all while feeling a nearly imperceptible vibration on their shoulders, prompting an involuntary curse.

Of course, this curse was only in their minds, not spoken aloud, because a walnut-sized black sphere floated silently above the person’s body, suspended in the air with no support, like a pitch-black pupil without an eye socket.

...

As A-level field agents, both their bodies and equipment had reached an astonishing level of strength; a casual punch could penetrate centimeters-thick steel, ordinary knives could hardly leave a mark on them, and even just the fibers of their muscles could withstand gunfire. In some sense, they had already surpassed human limits.

Yet, they still dared not act too recklessly within the Dark Realm.

For this was the entrance to another world, where each world has its inherent rules: the transfer of heat, the constraints of gravity, everything is preordained. This wasn’t about the magnitude of strength, the speed, or even the ranking within the field teams. Even the captain of the Omega squad, if exposed here, would still have to follow the rules of this place and transform into a somewhat more robust infected body, then further mutate into a monster.

The only thing that could ensure their survival... was this layer of protective suit. And in such a terrifying space, someone had boldly split a team into pairs, all for the sake of slightly increasing the area of exploration.

It was madness.

Oh, and it didn’t end there, the crazier part was that this person also claimed they could provide support in case of danger... That was a joke, even if that someone was from Omega, it was a laughable plan.

But there was no choice since the higher-ups had given the command, all they could do was follow it, and those who made it to A-level certainly had the mentality of the strong... After all, they had encountered countless life-or-death situations.

Each of them grumbled inwardly, their movements remaining cautious and swift, trusting their own formidable combat abilities over the strange detector suspended above their heads.

A slight breeze blew by, carrying a bit of sand and the smell of blood.

Everything was eerily absurd in its calmness.

Suddenly, the person in front halted, as several glowing spikes quickly sprang out from the joints of the elbows, wrists, shoulders, knees.

He hadn’t heard or seen anything, but his instinct told him that it seemed as if a gaze had fixed upon him.

"What’s wrong?" his teammate asked from behind him, as he pressed the button in his palm, and a hand cannon rapidly formed at his wrist...

One had to say, this person’s instincts were truly sharp. In the heat of the moment, a small piece of flesh wrapped in tentacles quietly emerged from the massive organs on the ground. After compressing itself, it shot towards one of their necks with a "whoosh"...

Silent and barely causing any friction with the air, it was like a spearfish breaking through water, and its speed was as fast as a bullet. In an instant, it was already behind one of their heads.

If time had frozen at that second... then anyone witnessing this would confirm that the mass of flesh would definitely hit the protective armor. And if the armor broke open even a tiny hole, that person’s fate was sealed.

However, in this unnoticed moment of life and death, the lump of flesh about to violently contact the armor suddenly exploded.

Then came a crisp "bang".

Both men turned around sharply, only to see a smear of blood on their protective helmets, completely unaware that a foot had just hung before the gates of hell, only to be pulled back by a shot from a kilometer away.

Yes, a single bullet, originating from several blocks away, burst from the gun barrel, scraping through the air filled with blood and dust, piercing through thick tendons of flesh, creating slender cuts in every building it passed. It overwhelmed, shattered, exploded, and pierced through, much like its shooter, discarding all flair to draw a simple, bold, and straight line between two points.

Dos fired a shot mid-air, and at the same time, he was plummeting at high speed, his tall body crashing down to the ground. Then, bracing against the huge impact of the fall, he harshly and ruthlessly straightened himself and continued to sprint forward, instantly kicking up a cloud of dust and blood behind him. At this moment, a screen of light floated in front of him, where countless data and images flashed by rapidly. This eyepiece was receiving signals from every detector, arranging them into dense data – altitude, temperature, speed, every change of direction, every leap. Each time the image switched, Dos observed each scattered pair of teammates with crystal clarity.

Meanwhile, he was still running towards the other end of the city, his feet plowing the ground into a deep trench, in a hurry to reach another pair of field agents. One person had already perished from a team of A-grade members, who knew what state the others were in.

With this thought, a series of data flashed quickly on the eyepiece’s screen. Dos’s expression remained unchanged. His knee bent slightly, and when his foot touched the ground, there was a thunderous boom. Accompanied by dust and a large crater underfoot, he propelled himself high into the air, the rifle in his hand moved to his right eye. His hand was steady, the rifle straight, as though a statue flung into the air, every minute motion as direct as a ruler-drawn line.

Another ordinary gunshot, covered by the sound of exploding and scattering stones below, not even the muzzle flared with bright fireworks. A single bullet followed the drawn line, cutting through everything in its path, reaching some distant point several kilometers away. It blasted a mid-air flesh monster into the sky, spreading it into countless pieces of flesh.

The two people just readying their weapons beside hadn’t yet realized what happened when they were spattered with pungent blood and gore.

"What... what happened?"

One of them wiped their protective helmet and shouted in somewhat panic.
