Chapter 156 - 156 150 Numbers Four

Chapter 156: Chapter 150 Numbers Four Chapter 156: Chapter 150 Numbers Four Liu Yi watched the other person and answered, “I said, I just woke up not long ago, I don’t know anything.”

“Awake?” Dr. Zhang asked, puzzled.

Liu Yi fell silent for a second, as if in thought.

“Yeah, I feel like I was just dreaming…” Then he looked at the other person again and continued, “You probably were, too…”

“Ah?” Dr. Zhang made a pained expression, recalling his recent actions in the empty hospital corridor, “Nonsense, how can a dream be that realistic?”

Upon hearing this, the other person immediately showed that “can’t explain to you normal people” expression commonly seen on patients with mental illness, ranting…

“How is it nonsense? How do you know dreams can’t be realistic! Perhaps you’re dreaming right now! I might just be a person in your dream!”

Dr. Zhang helplessly furrowed his brows, knowing that many psychiatric patients have trouble distinguishing “reality” from “fantasy,” and since he specialized in interacting with those with mental illnesses, he knew that with people with “delusions” he couldn’t be blunt, but had to play along, so he quickly responded, “Oh, you make a lot of sense, maybe I really was just dreaming!”

As he spoke, he recalled the circumstances in his mind… He clearly remembered making a phone call, and on the other end, there was a piercing laugh… Immediately afterward, he opened his eyes and found himself here.

…Hmm… thinking about it, the experience did seem just like a dream…

At that moment, as if possessed, he dug his fingernail into the palm of his hand.

The pain was very real…

“What on earth am I doing, acting as if I really believe what this psychiatric patient is saying?” he muttered to himself in self-mockery, “The urgent priority now is to figure out what exactly happened!”

Afterward, he turned his gaze to the two oddly-shaped chairs…

“Hmm… although they look like two very ordinary chairs, this design… it feels strange no matter how I think about it…” he thought, and twisted the thick wire on top.

And that Liu Yi in the patient’s uniform was left to the side; after all, what could one expect from a psychiatric patient…

The chair was entirely made of wood, with a few iron nails at the joints and covered in dust, clearly very old, but strangely without any signs of decay…

He walked around the chair a few times, touching here, knocking there, when suddenly, Dr. Zhang saw a structure like a secret compartment on the back of the chair,

He poked his finger inside… quickly, his fingertip seemed to touch something… like a piece of paper… without hesitation, he pulled the paper out and looked at it.

The paper was new, just the kind of A4 print paper that could be found anywhere in his hospital, torn to the size of the palm, and on it, written a string of numbers!

“8131620”

Dr. Zhang’s pupils suddenly constricted, that was the phone number he had just dialed…

“What’s going on?” his mind buzzed, “How could the phone number I dialed appear here?”

Immediately after, he suddenly had an incredible idea… He quickly walked behind the other chair… Sure enough, there was a little compartment there too! He stretched his finger into the compartment like before and pried out another piece of paper…

Dr. Zhang glanced at the paper, first stunned, then quickly looked up at Liu Yi.

That look puzzled the other… “What… What?” Liu Yi asked.

“What did you… ‘dream’ about just now?” Dr. Zhang stared at him, hesitated for a moment over the word “dream” and asked!

“Hmm…” Liu Yi put on a contemplative expression, and after a few seconds, slowly said.

“I was sleeping in the ward, and then I heard laughter coming from outside the door…”

“Laughter?”

“Yeah… It wasn’t loud, but it was very sharp and quite noticeable…”

Dr. Zhang frowned; he had mentioned before that the hospital wards were almost all soundproofed, so “hearing laughter from outside the door” was nearly impossible…

However, he just wondered for a moment, then gestured for the other to continue. After all, with a psychiatric patient, one must be selective in what to hear.

Liu Yi continued, “After that, I pushed the door open to check. The corridor was empty, not a soul in sight… but the laughter continued, so I followed the direction of the sound, wanting to see who was laughing so unpleasantly!”

At this point, Liu Yi frowned as if simply remembering that laughter made him uncomfortable.

“Pretty soon… I came to the door of a ward, and the sound was coming from behind this door!

I definitely pounded on the door, telling him to stop laughing!… But the person inside simply ignored me, not even saying a word, and instead laughed even more unpleasantly, which made me very angry, wanting to go in and give him a beating.”

He paused, looking at Dr. Zhang, “There’s nothing wrong with that, right…”

As he spoke, he seemed to be explaining that his approach wasn’t the manifestation of a “manic episode.”

Dr. Zhang, feeling helpless, played along, “Mm-hmm… most people would get angry… What happened next?”

Feeling validated by the doctor, he smiled proudly and continued, “Next, of course, I tried to open that door! I’m just mentally ill, not stupid. I know that you can’t open this kind of ward door with brute force.”
