Chapter 129 - 129 125 Unknown Task 9
Chapter 129: Chapter 125 Unknown Task 9 Chapter 129: Chapter 125 Unknown Task 9 “What did I just notice?” Chen Xiao asked himself.
“His hair? Neither long nor short, no particular style, just limply draped over his head. Not a bit of energy.”
“His looks? His face could be considered well-defined, but those eyes were far too timid, severely diminishing his presence.”
“His clothes? A sportswear top, a bit old, with a fast-food restaurant’s uniform jacket thrown over it, and slightly unkempt.”
“His build? On the thin side with soft, flaccid muscles, definitely not the sort trained bodies have. ‘As if untouched by wind’ would be an apt description.”
“His aura? …Hmm… not a speck of it, like a small puddle on the street corner after rain, that even a footstep might pass without notice.”
This was just an exceedingly ordinary working student, introverted, not glib, barely making ends meet, almost devoid of any noticeable traits. If one had to say, he might have a bit of endurance for hardship. Such people, you could grab a handful without looking.
But … Chen Xiao just couldn’t help giving him a second look, without even knowing why …
When Bai Xiong asked, “What’s up?” Chen Xiao initially wanted to say, “That student seems a bit off …”
But the words never made it out.
Because it was just a momentary feeling, without any basis … The thought that had just surfaced vanished the next second, like an early morning dream, fleeting and immediately gone without a trace.
Chen Xiao frowned slightly, deciding not to chase after the thought anymore. He had more pressing matters; he was looking for someone, a highly intelligent individual who left the Foundation in K City at a loss—an enigma who certainly exists, yet no one had ever seen, a ghost. He might be nobody or anybody, perhaps intangible, or omnipresent. To say he was that seemingly weak and silent server was also plausible.
With that thought, Chen Xiao paused, chewing on the burger in his mouth, mixing the meat and bread well before swallowing.
It’s funny to think that a meal—a few slices of bread, some vegetables, and chicken—bears the mark of a balanced diet, yet sandwich these together and it suddenly becomes junk food.
Chen Xiao mused over this ironic joke to himself, then on a whim, turned his head to check the counter.
It was empty.
He turned his head back, not seeming to find anything amiss. After all, there were only two people in the entire shop, and it would be odd if the server wasn’t attending diligently, almost like standing guard.
So, Chen Xiao just shrugged, stuffing the last bite of his burger into his mouth, only to be stunned seeing Bai Xiong do the same.
“Is something wrong?” Bai Xiong asked, watching Chen Xiao’s expression.
“Uh…” Chen Xiao uttered a filler word.
“Are you a feeding tank, eating faster than you would spill?”
He intended to tease Bai Xiong about his speed of eating with that remark. But when it came to his lips, he held back because the server had reappeared in his mind.
This person was undoubtedly the kind that lacked any sense of presence, the sort that should have been disposed of in the dumpster of memory, never to be recalled after a hearty belch.
Yet, why did he keep bouncing around in his mind, one moment after the next?
Chen Xiao furrowed his brow
…
…
…
He stood up and walked toward the fast-food restaurant’s counter.
Not because he thought there was something unusual about the server. Chen Xiao had no particular reason; it was just that the spinner in his mind happened to point him in that direction.
“Hey… uh… my friend said he wanted another 20 burgers…” Chen Xiao said softly, standing at the vacant counter.
As soon as the words were spoken, the owner of the fast-food restaurant burst out from the kitchen… “What did you say?” he exclaimed in surprise.
There was no need to panic; of course, those two weren’t going to actually order twenty more hamburgers. Chen Xiao just wanted to call someone out.
“Where’s that waiter…?” he asked faintly.
“Ah?” The owner didn’t understand why the other person was asking this. He was just an ordinary person running a small business, not given to overthinking, so he just showed a moment of mild confusion before instinctively pointing towards the back door… “He’s feeling unwell… so he just…”
Clang! Before the owner could finish, he was pushed to the ground, followed by the clattering noise of pots and pans hitting the floor.
He couldn’t fathom what had just happened; he only saw a burst of dazzling light suddenly emanating from the eyes of this strange character, who then forcefully shoved him aside and rushed towards the back door.
Bai Xiong was startled by this sudden turn of events, but he quickly realized what was happening, so he stretched his neck with all his might while pounding on his chest with one hand. He finally swallowed the last bite of the hamburger, didn’t even dare to catch his breath, and got up to give chase immediately.
…
…
There was once a reclusive individual who said… luck is also a part of strength.
That statement really made sense.
Lin Fan had been very careful. He was afraid that the organization would find him, so he was always on high alert. He feared the bomb was bait, so from beginning to end he never touched it, becoming like a gust of wind, pushing everything towards an outcome he had planned without leaving any trace.
In fact, in whatever he did, he never revealed a hint of a slip-up.
But he had not anticipated.
Why would two guys happen to walk into a shop that usually didn’t have a single customer?
Why did those two guys just happen to be the ones chasing him?
Why, even though he had left no trace, was that disgustingly ugly fellow fixating on him?
Lin Fan had a very bad feeling, so he activated his “Future Vision,” and then saw that man walking towards the bar.
He seemed suspicious of him.
But why?
Why?
Why?
He kept asking himself…
Actually, there was no reason, it was all just a coincidence.
Just like a powerful individual who chokes to death while eating.
Perhaps, this was destiny’s punishment for someone who could “see the future.”
No matter what, Lin Fan had to run, and run fast.
So… he simply took a leave from the owner and left the fast-food restaurant through the back door. At the same time, he continued to activate his “Future Vision.”
Though he knew that if the ability was used for more than three minutes, he would be detected, there was no other choice now.
Because he felt that the two strange guys,
…
were very difficult to deal with!
