Clown Game -
Chapter 126 - 126 122 Unknown Task Six
Chapter 126: Chapter 122 Unknown Task Six Chapter 126: Chapter 122 Unknown Task Six Time rewound to 20 minutes earlier, when Lin Fan quietly exited the classroom. Since it was the end of class, the hallway was bustling with frolicking students.
With his head slightly lowered, he made his way through the crowd, careful not to touch anyone, blending in like water into water, without causing even the slightest ripple.
He arrived at a restroom on the second floor and found a private stall, went in, and closed the door behind him.
He then took a plastic bag, a pen, and a folded piece of paper out of his pocket.
After that, he slipped his hand into the plastic bag, tore the inner part of the paper, the page he had never touched before, and with his left hand holding the pen, he wrote, “First floor, south side staircase,” and below it, he drew two hearts side by side with an arrow piercing through them.
Lin Fan looked at the drawing he had made and slightly furrowed his brow. He casually crumpled up the rest of the paper and flushed it down the drain.
Having done all this, Lin Fan returned to the hallway, and at an angle not captured by the surveillance cameras, the paper with writing drifted down to the floor, and quite unfortunately, it was stepped on by him into a puddle of water.
15 seconds later, a man around 50 years old approached. This gentleman had quite the reputation; he was the school’s head disciplinarian with over thirty years of battling against fights, truancy, smoking, puppy love, and all other behaviors that violated the school’s rules and spirit. Hence, he had developed a pair of discerning eyes.
It was then that he keenly noticed a paper by the wall, with the faint scent of guilt wafting from it.
So, he slowly squatted down, took a look at its content, and then a wisp of disdainful smile appeared on his lips.
“Hmph, another pair of students blinded by love, huh.”
…
…
Lin Fan returned to his seat. It had been about three minutes from the moment he left to his return. The classroom was still noisy, and nobody noticed his absence.
But he knew that in a few minutes, the 50-year-old head disciplinarian would reach the staircase next to which the bomb was hidden, and he would find the bomb and alert the authorities, because Lin Fan had already seen the panicked evacuation from the school building and the police cars entering the campus.
His recent actions had changed the future.
…
The future is a mysterious thing; since it hasn’t happened yet, it’s filled with countless “possibilities” as well as countless “impossibilities.”
It’s like reading a book. When a person capable of “foreseeing the future” opens the first page of the story, do they already know the ending?
In theory, they do. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be called “predicting the future.”
But if they already know the ending, do they need to continue reading?
That question is harder to answer.
Because if they don’t read on, then how will the future self have finished the story?
Thus, the most likely outcome is that this person, even knowing the story’s end, must continue to read on!
Perhaps closing the book would leave its content in a muddled state in their mind, eventually forgetting everything.
Or maybe he is simply unable to perform the act of closing the book or even conceive the thought of doing so.
Anyway, he can only reread the book despite knowing its contents.
And the reason for saying all this is to clarify one thing.
That is, “seeing the future doesn’t necessarily mean you can change the future.”
…
Lin Fan is a smart person, and he obviously understands this principle, so he is very cautious. He knows that a single slip-up could result in him becoming nothing more than a “test subject.”
Ordinary, unassuming, thoughtful, and sparing in action, he leaves no stone unturned and pays attention to the smallest of details.
This had almost become his attitude towards life, and to make himself more ordinary, he had to consider a lot in every action he took. Just like what he’d just done, it was troublesome, and it might be useless, but he still did his best because he didn’t want to take risks over such simple matters.
Dealing with problems is a last resort, the truly smart people are always trying to avoid problems.
…
…
Yes, what he had done left no trace, the only oversight being that piece of paper, but the Director of Education wouldn’t pick up that paper, since it was all drenched and soon would be trampled beyond recognition by the crowd. He had been nothing more than a regular student who went to the bathroom, and even in the surveillance footage, there was nothing odd to be found. And if someone asked the Director how he had discovered the “time bomb,” the only answer would likely be, “Because I was going to catch students in early romance!” Such things he did almost all the time, so no clues would ever be found. All of this was just a coincidence.
And what was the deal with this bomb? Why was it placed in the school? Who placed it?
Lin Fan wouldn’t consider such things because they had nothing to do with him.
He just wanted to live a quiet and ordinary life.
…
Class had started, and the entire school had settled down.
Suddenly, the intercom in the hallway crackled to life.
“zzzt…zssst…”
A harsh static noise.
“Attention all teachers, immediately lead your classes out of the teaching building. Within ten minutes, immediately lead your classes out of the teaching building… Attention all teachers…”
The voice over the intercom disguised it well, with not a hint of panic, and they didn’t say anything unnecessary like “This is just a fire drill.” It seemed the school had already contacted the police. The Director who was always babbling about something turned out to be reliable after all.
The voice over the intercom kept repeating, everyone’s face full of surprise and confusion. Although Lin Fan had known it would come to this, he still put on a surprised look.
He could blend into the surrounding atmosphere with hardly any thought, a habit, or one might even say, an instinct.
It was at this moment that someone who must have watched too many detective movies seemed to have a sudden realization.
“There’s… There’s a bomb?”
He muttered tremblingly.
“Huh?”
“There’s a bomb?”
The people around repeated in a terrified chorus.
And emotions like fear or panic are extremely contagious.
Suddenly, from somewhere, a loud cry rang out.
“Oh my god, there’s a bomb!”
The crowd erupted, everyone screaming chaotically as they shoved and pushed their way out of the classrooms.
Lin Fan was also swept out with the flow of people, a series of deafening shouts in his ears. He tried hard to look very frightened.
Meanwhile, he muttered in his heart,
“Ah, trying to be ordinary sure is exhausting.”
